REVIEW
My Rating - 5 Stars!
Ashes, by HJ Welch, is part of second round of The Men of Hidden Creek series by various authors.
In Ashes, Kris is saved from a fire by his longtime crush, Remi, who is his brother's best friend. Soon, he finds himself staying with Remi since he's homeless.
'"I always dreamed you'd be my hero," Kris mumbled.'
Neither are looking for a boyfriend, but having a chance for repeat sex wasn't a bad thing.
I love Kris's sparkle and shine, as well as his heart. He wants to be able to help all of the LGBT community. It's enchanting the way that Remi appreciates Kris's sparkly side, thinking of him as having fabulousness.
Remi is sad for Kris not being able to show this side of himself until his father left, always remaining quiet and shy. When his dad left, the real Kris "arrived in a shower of glitter" but Remi was already away at college and didn't get to know the real Kris.
This story is endearing, with some great issues - coming out, first time, family issues, homophobia, and an arson mystery.
One thing that is so special about this book is not just the appearance of the other men from Hidden Creek, but the wonderful way they love and support Kris. It is inspirational.
And best of all may be Kris' love for a sparkly goldfish named Tay-Tay!
I am so happy that there is a second round of The Men of Hidden Creek books, and I'm thrilled that Ashes, by HJ Welch, holds up to the standard set in the first round.
