Pretenders by Alexa Land

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Doctor Wesley Bennett is desperate to find a date for his ex-fiancĂ©’s destination wedding. So desperate, in fact, that he’s decided to hire an escort to pose as his boyfriend.

That’s what he thinks, anyway.

My roommate’s the actual escort, not me. He wasn’t available, so I stepped in. This job was just way too sweet to pass up.

It should be easy. All we have to do is convince everyone Wesley and I are a couple without getting emotionally involved. He’s adorable though, in a nerdy and endearingly awkward kind of way, and the attraction between us is undeniable. I have a feeling things are about to get complicated. And what’s going to happen when the job is over? Can we stop pretending and build something real? Or are a straight-laced pediatrician and a lavender-haired DJ too different to make it work?

Pretenders is a stand-alone, opposites attract gay romance, set in the world of Alexa Land’s best-selling Firsts and Forever Series.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

I am super excited with Pretenders, a return to the First and Forever universe by Alexa Land. This is one of my all time favorite series and this is a fabulous addition to that world.

I just adore this book. Everything about it is charming, sweet, and easy to fall in love with.

When Wesley needs a date for his ex's wedding, he hires Ash to be his fake boyfriend. Of course, Wesley thinks Ash is a escort.

I love the way things develop for these two. They get to know one another and it's all sweet and cute. They are such opposites and yet perfect for one another.

As for the wedding, well, let's just say that Wesley's ex and his family are easy to dislike.

Of course, we get to revisit with Nana D and her merry crew of gay boys, which is just delightful. I love this crazy lady and all her penises!

Pretenders is a fabulous fake relationship romance. I couldn't put this Alexa Land book down.

Understanding Desire (Club DeSires #2) by Quinn Ward

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

They were both filled with regrets over the night they accidentally wound up in bed together. When they realize the chemistry is real, the fun begins...

Tanner has never forgotten the night he let his impulsive nature get the best of him... or the look on Ryan's face the morning after. He was certain he'd blown any chance of turning his fantasies into reality. When he's forced to face his brother's best friend, he has no clue how much his life is going to change.

Ryan kept his life packed into different boxes. When he was back home, he was the All-American boy next door. No one knew how much he craved hearing a boy call him Daddy. But it wasn't any boy he wanted... it was the one man he needed to stay far away from. There was no way his best friend would give them his blessing if he knew all the things Ryan wanted to do to Tanner.

The moment Tanner confesses to wanting all the things Ryan has to offer, what was supposed to be a weekend of exploration turns into something neither of them can give up. Will Ryan find a way to help Tanner become the boy he's meant to be with them living on opposite sides of the country?

Understanding Desire is the second book in the Club DeSires series, part of the kinky town of Annandale. It features a tender yet twisted Daddy, a boy with an exhibitionist streak he didn't know existed, and a host of friends who can't wait to corrupt Tanner's mind.
Note: This story is an expansion of Ring in the True, originally available as a free short story. The beginning has been expanded, and the story continues after Ryan and Tanner ring in the new year with style!

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Understanding Desire is the second book in the Club DeSires series by Quinn Ward. Another book in the Annandale setting, I love this fictional setting.

This tale is smoking hot, with lots of controlled demands, sex toys, and risky moments.

Tanner and Ryan are reunited and brought together by some nicely done forced proximity. They have some past issues to deal with, but soon agree to a weekend of daddy dynamics.

With them having a long distance relationship, there's lots of steamy phone moments and built up tension.

There are some family issues, as Ryan's brother is Tanner's  best friend.
There's pressure to stay long distance, which prolongs the tension and longing.

I enjoy most of this book, but I didn't get any of the club scenes I wanted. There was anticipation and teasing of it, but the story ends before we ever get one. I was left wanting.

I definitely enjoy the way the author writes, and the storyline is definitely enjoyable. I am always excited to read this author.

Understanding Desire is a good addition to this series. I hope we get to visit with the club more in the next book. But basically, I can't wait to see what comes next no matter what.

Healed In His Arms (Wildwood Mates #4) by Skye R. Richmond

A newborn. A sudden illness. No help in sight.

This time, the alpha is offering more than a doctor-patient relationship. He’ll do whatever is necessary to take the relationship with his mate to the next level.

Jax has been through hell. Can he truly trust that Ryder is ready to offer him everything… a true partner, a life of happiness, and a doting alpha father for his child?

Unspoken dreams do come true. Finally, Jax is happy.

Then tragedy strikes, taking both Jax and their child away from Wildwood. Desperate, Ryder puts aside his oath to ‘do no harm.’ He’ll stop at nothing to find his family.

Will Ryder be able to find Jax in time?

Ryder is a man on a mission, and he doesn’t care what path he needs to take, as long as it leads him to his family.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Healed in His Arms is the fourth book in the Wildwood Mates series by Skye R Richmond. This is definitely not a standalone. The series needs to be read in order.

This is a quick romance, between two men who are fated mates.

Ryder and Jax's tale is one of fated mates. Basically, they are dealing with Jax's hesitation to bond with him, all while dealing with health issues.

They have plenty of internal obstacles in their way. Jax's past definitely has left him scarred and weary. But damn, Ryder is one hell of a patient man.

My favorite part of the story is definitely the daughter. Tabby is adorable. I just love little kids in my stories.

Their story includes some lurking danger they need to face as well. But we know with this pack, everything will end up ok.

Healed in His Arms is a nice addition to this omegaverse romance series. I love this entire series by Skye R Richmond.

Spare Room (The Trouble With Triads #1) by E.M. Denning

Alex feels like a failure. He abandoned Tristan for big dreams and has nothing to show for it all now.

When the fire leaves him homeless, Tristan and his husband Ben come to Alex’s rescue. He can’t refuse the offer of their spare room. But what happens when Alex falls for his ex... and his husband?

Ben and Tristan have recovered from the last try to add a third partner to their relationship when Alex falls into their lap. Despite their history, the chemistry is right, and Tristan hopes Alex can see how good they could be together.

Alex fears coming between Ben and Tristan. But what if that’s exactly where they want him? If the husbands want him to stay, they’ll need to convince him they need him as much as he needs them. Can they make Alex believe they have room in their hearts for him?

Spare Room is the first book in a series of standalone novels all about polyamorous (MMM) relationships.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Spare Room is a sweet menage romance. This EM Denning is the first book in The Trouble with Triads series.

If you enjoy a couple bringing a third into their relationship, read this book. If you enjoy roommate romances, read this book.

I love a good menage book and this one is a good one.

Alex is Tristan's ex. I adore that Ben isn't jealous of letting Alex stay with them. I enjoy all the little things that make this one go from friends to lovers. It's definitely sweet.

That said, this is definitely light on some of the layers. With menage stories, I prefer there to be a lot of depth to all of the relationships, but this one isn't as in depth as I prefer. A lot of it is left up to interpretation of what may be in the future. There's nothing wrong with that, but it certainly keeps my rating a little lower.

Overall, Spare Room is a fun read. If you enjoy menage romances, this is worth a try. And with EM Denning making this go from two to three in the relationship, that just adds to the allure.

The Swap Masquerade by Annabella Michaels

“A night of passion and pleasure awaits you. No names, no faces, just the chance to live out your wildest fantasies. Leave your keys in the bowl and let fate decide who you’ll end up with.”

After years of hiding his sexuality from his family and teammates, Elliott Stone is tired of living a lie. However, with only three months left until the baseball season is over and he graduates from college, he’s determined to keep his secret for a little bit longer. But the words written on a party invitation offer another option. One that might allow him to finally explore what it’s like to be with another man.

Gavin Holt loves being a college professor, but living and working in a small, conservative town makes discretion essential when it comes to his sexuality. That’s why he likes going to Swap Masquerades. Hiding his identity under a mask is the only way he can truly feed all of his desires without anyone finding out.

Behind a mask, is the one place they can both let their inhibitions go, but what happens if the person finally revealed is someone who’s off limits?

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

The Swap Masquerade is a hot and kinky teacher/student romance by Annabella Michaels.

In general, I try to avoid teacher/student romances, as they are very hit or miss for me. But with this being a swap tale by Annabella, I couldn't pass up this one.

Everything about this story is fabulous. I adore the way they meet, the way things develop, and the ending.

I love the journey for these two, both individually and together.

Both men are well developed, with issues and emotions galore.

Elliott's a closeted college baseball player, who's struggling with both his sexuality and his life choices. His father's expectations certainly don't align with his. I love seeing him finally learn about gay sex and his kinks. I love seeing him explore what he enjoys and wants.

Then there's Gavin, who happens to be Elliott's professor. Gavin's sex needs aren't easily met in his small town. But with swap parties he's able to meet his needs.

Of course, no surprise, the two men meet when masked, fall for each other when masked, yet don't know they know one another. Fun concept and well executed.

I definitely enjoy the way things happen between the men. They know one another in different worlds, and the reader is well aware that sooner or later they'll figure out who's behind the masks.

The writing is great, with everything being even better than I was hoping. There's way more depth to the men and their situations than I was expecting. It's a delightfully enjoyable hot read.

The Swap Masquerade is a must read when you're in the mood for a teacher/student romance. Annabella Michaels brings plenty of layers and emotion to this story.

How to Catch the Boss is a fun holiday novella in the Chester Falls series. In this Ana Ashley tale, we get to revisit the royal land of Lydovia again.

This book is pure fun, as Luca and Ryan are stuck together. Cue all the snow, forced proximity, mutual attraction elements.

Add in plenty of laughs and charm and you can't go wrong with this Ana Ashley story.

Breathe (London Love #1) by Sophia Soames

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Meet Ryan, aka, Joey Hole, disgraced former adult entertainer with more issues than he can keep track of. His boyfriend left him for an Instagram twink with 150K followers, his Mum wants him out of her spare room and then there's that idiot at college who just won't take no for an answer.

Meet Luke. He was once the rich kid who'd just been gifted his first car, and now he doesn't even own a bike. He's also slumming it in a house full of ungrateful siblings and his first trip to the Food-bank gave him some goddamn emotional scars. Life is getting better though, and he's acing it at college, as well as making some brilliant new friends. Well except for that stuck up twatwaffle Ryan who won't talk to him and refuses to like his brilliant social media posts....

The first of Sophia Soames new London Series, BREATHE will release on May 15 2021. This series will follow the ups and downs of three couples living extraordinary ordinary London lives.

Pre order for Breathe is available now, and the remaining two books will release during 2021

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Breathe is a fabulous romance by Sophia Soames. The first book in the London Love series, everything about it is emotional and all consuming.

Ryan and Luke's story is a tender, hurt/comfort read. Both are so damn broken and unsure of their futures. Their pasts are vastly different, yet equally damaging.

Ryan's back home in London, after separating from his ex. After a career in porn, and his open relationship, he's trying to find his way.

As for Luke, his background is heart breaking. He had to grow up way too fast, helping to raise his siblings, after his parents left them in a bad way.

I love the way both are from the start. Both make the other feel safe. Both are intrigued by the other, without expectations. It's very sweet.

I enjoy their journey from strangers to friends to more. It's all tastefully done and I absolutely love the sexual awakening aspect.

Everything about their journey is emotional and realistic. I love the flaws in each man, as well as the mistakes they've made. I enjoy the strength of each and the way they overcome all their obstacles.

They make for a beautiful couple and I am left feeling honored to have read their story.

The writing style is wonderful, making the reader feel completely relaxed and entertained. Written in alternating first person pov, both men are fully explored.

Breathe is a great, mesmerizing story. This is classic Sophia Soames, as she will make you think, feel, and fall in love. Her writing style is unique and easy to become mesmerized by. It's hard to explain how much I enjoy her writing, so I will just say it that way. I love her writing and the depth of her stories.

Rule of Law (The Goode Life #3) by Isla Olsen

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Lawson

I have one rule when it comes to my sex life: I only hook up with guys who identify as straight. It’s a tried and tested way of avoiding the cling factor, which I’ve found to be a huge problem in the past. A one-night stand with a curious ‘straight’ guy is the perfect situation: no strings, no mess, no dodging unwanted texts and phone calls.

Is it the most healthy way to handle my commitment issues? Probably not, but it’s what I’ve got right now.

Of course, there’s one straight guy who’s completely off-limits. And because irony’s a bitch, he’s the one guy I just can’t stop thinking about…

George Goode is sweet, charming, hilarious, and sexy as hell. And he’s also become one of my best friends since I moved to the tiny town of Finchley about a year ago.

But let’s make one thing clear: I do not have feelings for him. I don’t get feelings. I’m not wired that way. I just think about him all the time, I miss him when he’s not around, and I seem to spend a lot of my time daydreaming about snuggling on Sunday mornings and visiting famers markets together. All totally, one hundred percent normal stuff to be thinking about one of your best friends…right?

You’d think, given everything, that when George decides to express a little curiosity, I’d be a hundred percent on board. But for some reason it’s not quite as simple as all that…

Come visit Finchley, CA, where the sun’s always shining, the locals are always gossiping, and you won’t walk two steps without bumping into a member of the Goode family. If you’re lucky you might find gold; or, even better…true love.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Rule of Law is another fabulous sexual awakening romance by Isla Olsen. The third book in The Goode Life series, it's easily read as a standalone.

Good god, I love this friends to lovers book. I love everything about it.

This is a story with foursomes, first times, and plenty of heat. It's a story with ferris wheels, scary clowns, and plenty of humor.

George and Lawson are best friends. Seeing them go from friends to lovers is simply one amazing moment after another. The entire town is betting on when they'll get together, which is simply entertaining.

I love this family and I love this town. The whole series is a must read if you enjoy humor and large families.

Rule of Law is everything I was hoping it would be. Isla Olsen once again had me laughing throughout, completely charmed by these men and their journey.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

A Husband for Hartwell is a great historical romance by JA Rock and Lisa Henry. A regency romance, it's a lot of fun.

William and Warry's romance takes place in a society that allows same sex marriages. That said, William is expected to marry Clara.

The twists are delightful, with both William and Clara choosing to deny expectations.

Their tale includes expectations, blackmail, secrets, and more. It's a slow burn romance that involves a lot of chaos and confusion, as well as heat and ultimately love.

A Husband for Hartwell is a unique take on a regency romance. The authors add plenty of twists and turns to keep things intriguing. It's definitely worth a read if you're in the mood for a gay regency romance.

Teaser 2

Hartwell crossed an ankle over his knee. “I have a proposal. An arrangement that may benefit us both.”

Warry leaned back against the pillows but still held himself stiff.

“You may stay here until your bruises fade, and in return, you must help me learn to court your sister.”

Warry frowned. “You wish to court my sister?”

“Yes,” Hartwell said. “There is no need to sound quite so astonished about it. If she and I are to be married, then I must know her as more than simply a friend.”

“You’re not going to marry her.” It was said with a certainty that dug at Hartwell.

“Of course I am. It was all but decided before we were out of leading strings.”

Warry wrinkled his nose. “She doesn’t want to marry you.”

“She said she did yesterday.”

“She doesn’t want to marry anyone.”

“Well, she must. As must I. And so, we will marry each other. That is decided, Warry. That is not what this conversation is about.”

“It is now.”

This was the Warry Hartwell remembered—an obnoxious little pup, answering back over everything. Hartwell would have carried him outside and dunked him in a pond if he hadn’t looked so bruised and pathetic.

“I know nothing of her romantic tastes. We’ve always avoided talking of such since neither of us…” He shook his head. “Well, we have both, of late, been reminded of our duty, and we have come to an arrangement, but there is no need for that duty to be unpleasant, is there?”

The furrows in Warry’s brow seemed in danger of becoming permanent. “You believe I spend my days thinking on how to court my sister?”

Hartwell sighed impatiently. “No, but I know your sister has had admirers, and I’m certain you’ve seen her reaction to certain types of flowers or…or chocolates or sweet sayings in cards. I want you to teach me what she likes so we might present as a convincing match to Society. And more importantly, to my parents.”

He marvelled at just how simple a solution it was. It was as Becca had said: they would feign courtship in front of their parents. They would marry as friends and live their own lives. She would never hold him back from anything he wanted nor he her. He only wished he hadn’t been too pig-headed to see it that way in the first place.

“If you’re just putting on appearances,” Warry said, “surely she can pretend to like any flower.”

Hartwell struggled to keep the frustration from his voice. “Well, it’s not just pretend now, is it? I love your sister dearly. I wish her to feel I can be a husband to her as well as a friend.”

Warry’s scowl twitched into a near smile before re-etching itself firmly onto his face. “She’s going to laugh at you.”

Hartwell couldn’t hold back a snort of amusement. “Brat.” He stood, stretching, and then winced at the pop of his joints. He noted with some surprise that Warry’s gaze dropped to where the tie of Hartwell’s dressing gown had loosened. “Of course she will. But when she sees the lengths I have gone to in order to make myself a satisfactory suitor, she will be properly awed.”

Now Warry outright snickered, and Hartwell suddenly felt he could sit there all day, trying to make little Joseph Warrington laugh. He reached out to tousle the sandy hair as he had done many times before and halted as Warry flinched away. Hartwell studied the bruises again. Perhaps that was all—Warry flinched because he ached and did not want Hartwell making him ache further.

But a niggling voice in his mind said that perhaps he and Warry had never really been chums. That his only friend was Rebecca, that she was his sole safeguard against a lifetime of loneliness, and that he must now learn to love her as a wife, even though, in all his unformed daydreams, if he had ever imagined himself with someone by his side at all, it had been a man and not a woman.

“Do not laugh at me, Warry,” he said with feigned severity, which only made Warry laugh harder. Hartwell felt a rush of warmth rise up in him, both tender and acute, and for a moment he wished…

But no.

Where on earth had that thought come from?

Even if he had ever thought of Warry as anything but Becca’s younger brother, which he most certainly had not, he was an only son. And Warry was an oldest son, and wishes were for children, not for men who had a duty to their families.

About Lisa:

Lisa likes to tell stories, mostly with hot guys and happily ever afters.

Lisa lives in tropical North Queensland, Australia. She doesn't know why, because she hates the heat, but she suspects she's too lazy to move. She spends half her time slaving away as a government minion, and the other half plotting her escape.

She attended university at sixteen, not because she was a child prodigy or anything, but because of a mix-up between international school systems early in life. She studied History and English, neither of them very thoroughly.

She shares her house with too many cats, a dog, a green tree frog that swims in the toilet, and as many possums as can break in every night. This is not how she imagined life as a grown-up.
