The Road to Rocktoberfest, Book 4

One street touched a thousand lives and sent two boys in opposite directions.

For Reid Mackenzie, Street of Dreams offers hope for a better life and a chance to share his music with the world. For Jake King, it reinforces his life of crime and the ties to a city that empowers him.

They were two boys, growing up side by side in the same neighborhood, but their lives couldn’t be more different. Mac comes from a humble Scottish family and dreams of the stage and the day he has enough money to escape Chicago’s South Side. Jake knows he’ll never leave. The impoverished city, and his notorious father, have a hold on him that won’t let go.

Circumstances force them to carry on their relationship in private, until it explodes in the worst way. With the will of a warrior, Jake vows he’ll do whatever he has to in order for them to be together, no matter how brutal the consequences.

This is a story of courage, kilts, and second chances.

Street of Dreams is the fourth book in the multi-author Road to Rocktoberfest series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but why not stay and enjoy the whole show? If you like scorching tales of hot rock stars and the men who love them, then you’ll adore the untamed musicians of Rocktoberfest!

My Rating - Stars!

Street of Dreams is an amazing enemies to lovers romance by Jenna Galicki. The fourth book in the multi-author The Road to Rocktoberfest series, it's easily read as a standalone.

The majority of their story is long before Mac's music career takes off. Instead, we get an intense tale of want, need, and fear. It definitely took me a while to get invested in this one, but once I did, wow, I couldn't put it down.

The enemies to lovers aspect is well done, as Jake and Mac have been fighting since childhood. Jake is truly awful to Mac, with Mac often pushed to his limit. But as Jake says,  "...I think you know there's more to me than just being a jerk all the time." Damn, at first Jake is hard to love. There was only so much give and take I could handle. But then we get Jake's story and it becomes understandable. I still hurt for Mac though and wanted more for him. Hell, I hurt for both of them. Basically, I was as wrecked as they both were.

The homophobic element is the driving factor of their journey, as Jake certainly can't come out in his family. His father is a evil, ruthless man, who lives in a world of gangs, danger, and control. The family issues truly had me gutted, with so much hate, pain, and devastation. It's absolutely agonizing at times, with the pain jumping off the pages. I definitely was ready to cry often.

As for the rocker aspect of the story, it's there, mostly at the end. It definitely isn't the main aspect of this tale though. It is used more to guide things along. So if you're in the mood for straight up rocker romance, this probably isn't for you. But if you're in the mood to be agonizingly destroyed, read on.

Street of Dreams is riveting, exceptional  and all-consuming. I am still shocked by how amazing this Jenna Galicki book is. It is definitely one hell of an impressive read. Seriously, I am still floored by Jake's decision at the turning book of the story. This one just blew me away!

kilts and second chances

Jake sat with his back against the headboard, smoking cigarette after cigarette, while re-runs of Friends played on the flat screen. He glanced at the time on the cable box for the fourth time, just as a knock sounded on the door. One side of his mouth drew back in a smile while he slowly brought his feet to the floor. He snubbed out his Marlboro in the ashtray on the nightstand and leisurely walked across the room. Another impatient knock on the door made him slow his stride, even though he wanted to run. He counted to three before he turned the knob. “I knew you’d come.”

Mac didn’t reply. He only stood there glaring at Jake with fire behind his eyes.  Jake knew that look so well. It was burning lust, overwrought with passion, and he allowed himself to drink in the man in front of him. How he’d missed that mane of deep red hair and those incredibly soulful eyes. They were bottomless pools of emotion. And they were boring into Jake with madness that seemed incomprehensible. They conveyed equal parts of love and rage.

Jake had always thought a hair separated love and hate, anger and passion, and that both sides of the emotions were interchangeable at times. Mac proved that theory, because seeing how his eyes shifted from hostile to deep longing and back again was like flipping a switch on and off.

Jake watched as Mac’s nostrils flared and his deep breaths blew his long hair off his chest. His hair and his upper body had grown significantly. The tight T-shirt strained across Mac’s broadened chest, and the short sleeves pinched the indent between his deltoids and biceps. Jake’s eyes dropped lower, and his knees almost buckled. Mac had worn the kilt. It wasn’t the same one he wore earlier at the show, which meant Mac had showered and changed, and deliberately worn a kilt at Jake’s request. Warmth, that hadn’t been there in a long time, filled Jake’s chest, and a crooked smile spread across his lips. “You wore the kilt.”

Mac pushed past Jake and marched into the room, tugging at the roots of his hair. He suddenly stopped and swung around, wildly. “I couldn’t stop fucking thinking about you! I can’t believe the way you get in my head!”

Jake’s smile broadened because he knew that passion lurked under all the anger. Mac wouldn’t be here if he didn’t care. There wouldn’t be fire behind his eyes, and his jaw wouldn’t be clenched. Labored breaths wouldn’t be blowing in and out of his lungs, and there wouldn’t be such vehemence behind his words. But Jake never doubted Mac’s feelings for one fucking minute. Not one fucking second. The two of them were bound together by some kind of invisible rope, that may stretch to the limits sometimes, but it would never break. Their lives couldn’t be more different, but their souls were cemented together.

This contract killer is exhausted and weighed down with all the lies he tells every day. Who he is. What he does. How he came to have all he has. Ten years together. Three legally wed. One with their daughter. And in one night Lucky Mousasi’s world just…stops. What he thought was a random home invasion turns into way more. Masked men not only brutalize him, but they come armed with knowledge about Lucky, his husband, and the life he thought he knew. An intimate rival will stop at nothing to neutralize the threat Elias poses, and the life he built out of guilt and desperation becomes collateral damage. When Lucky takes their daughter and disappears, Elias goes on a rampage. He will get his family back, but first he’s on an elimination mission. One bullet at a time.

REVIEW
My Rating -  5 Stars!

Avril Ashton's (Watch Me) Unmask You has wrecked me! As with the previous books in this series, this book is deep, gut-wrenching and remarkable!

This story is truly amazing, with Elias and Lucky, a couple who have no right to be together, yet are drawn to each other body-and-soul.

Their relationship covers many years, starting with Elias helping to comfort Lucky when he's young, through Lucky's early twenties, and beyond.

In the beginning, Lucky is devastated as Elias flits in and out of his life, leaving him lost each time he leaves. Lucky's alone in the world, having lost his parents, and then his aunt. Elias is the only steady person he has, yet he is never around, going years between visits.

The strength of the bond and chemistry between these men is breath-taking and riveting. But they are drowning in their issues. Even if Elias is able to give himself to Lucky, he still isn't giving Lucky the real Elias, as Elias is living a life of lies.

The beauty of this romance is the way that Avril Ashton can once again have us falling in love with a man who does awful, unforgiving things. How does she do this so darn well? How can we fall so hard for Elias, before even knowing the full truth, and rooting so hard for him? It is a testament to the strength of her writing, that's how. Elias is so broken, and breaks Lucky in return, yet I love every second of it, and I am thrilled to have found these amazing men.

This story contains suspense, extreme chemistry, action, violence, and more. The beauty comes in the strength of love and the ability to listen, understand, and forgive.

(Watch Me) Unmask You is as powerful of a story as I've read. Avril Ashton's Run This Town series is a must read for anyone who loves an action romance.

BLURB
What if loving him…
After recent events that had his life flashing before his eyes, Israel Storm is re-evaluating everything. His friends. His priorities. What’s not going to change is the deep connection he’s developed with Reggie Turner. They’re comfortable with each other, partners in crime with no qualms about sharing women. Whatever Is needs, Reggie is the one he calls. Their bond can survive anything. But maybe not the kiss Reggie plants on him out of nowhere.
…Means losing him?
Despite what Is thinks, that kiss came from somewhere. An un-named current has been flowing between them for months. Reggie doesn’t bat for his own team, but the more time he spends with Is, seeing past the rough façade of the man leading The Rude Boys, the more Reggie loses sight of labels and where he fits. All he knows is there’s something there, something Is will never acknowledge. One kiss leads to a punch that lands Reggie in the ER, and sends Is digging through his darkest memories in search of himself.
Friendship is all that’s left if they bury the truth. If they ignore the pull that makes it impossible to do anything other than fight each other. But denials can be exhausting and hiding isn’t working, not when everyone can clearly see your heart’s desire. An enemy is out to make an example of Is, and his weapon of choice will leave this Rude Boy bloodied…and bodied. REVIEW My Rating - 5 Stars! Once again, I cannot praise this Run The Town series by Avril Ashton enough!!! (Watch Me) Body You is the second book in this series by Avril Ashton. And like book 1, it is simply amazing! This time, Avril entertains us with a fantastic friends to lovers romance. Reggie has wanted Israel for as long as he can remember. but Israel has always fought the attraction between them. To put it plainly, Israel does not want to be gay, knowing it would actually be dangerous for a man in his position to be openly gay. Their story takes place among the dangerous streets they rule, and it's loaded with fear and anger. Deep down, Israel suffers from things in his past that make him question who he really is. In this book, Avril manages again to humanize these tough as nails gang members who lives their lives around peddling drugs, protecting their territory and exacting revenge. It is a true gift that one can take these tough and rough men and show their vulnerability, loyalty and family issues. I am in awe. I absolutely love the tension in this story as all the denial is happening. But, even more, I love they way that Israel finally decides to admit his feelings and take a chance on love. I am not going to tell it to you, but when you read it, it is just honest, good, and so damn realistic. But rest assured, that their chemistry is hot, and their story is great. And, don't overlook the secondary characters, as they are all fantastic and lend so much to this story. If you haven't already done so, please check out (Watch Me) Body You by Avril Ashton. As for me, I am on to the next book in the series!

(Watch Me) Break You (Run This Town, Book #1) by Avril Ashton

They’re in a war for control of the streets, but love will be the ultimate prize.
Here comes trouble…
Men. Women. Drugs. Dima Zhirkov’s favorite things. Add in the element of danger and he should be right as rain. But not today. It’s not working, hasn’t for a long time. He’s grasping at the flimsiest of straws to prove he’s indeed strong enough to run his streets. Until he sets eyes on him. In the midst of a room full of strangers, Dima is drawn to a man as cold and dangerous as he is beautiful. Captivated, Dima embarks on a ruthless campaign to get his new toy into bed.
Here comes the danger…
Xavier “X” Storm is content to pull the strings while someone else handles the day to day dealings of his gang, The Rude Boys. He’s after what Dima holds closest—the Coney Island streets. He contracts out the job of killing the Russian, except Dima isn’t that easy to kill. When he suddenly shows up in X’s path, tempting him to indulge in the dirtiest play, he finds Dima isn’t all that easy to shake, either. His cocky attitude and rough submission tempts X to go where he’d vowed to never return, and they plunge head first into an affair fueled by possessive obsession.
Run for cover
Sex and pain Dima can handle, and X delivers the most depraved kind. Their connection is explosive, their games addictive, but Dima can end it whenever he wishes. He doesn’t see that X is breaking him down, giving Dima everything he wants and even more than he ever thought to need. By the time he realizes who X is and what he wants, Dima is raw and bullet riddled. It’s run or fight. And Dima doesn’t back down. Neither does X.
***** Warning: Includes strong BDSM elements, violence, and gun play *****

REVIEW
My Rating - 5 Stars!

Avril Ashton's (Watch Me) Break You is one hell of a gritty, tough and powerful story.

It is one complicated, intense and action-packed book. Both men are bad men, caught up in some serious life threatening situations.  You'll find lies, deception, murder, and passion! And, yet, somehow Ashton find humanizes these men, leaving us felling empathy for them. I am still shocked at how well this was achieved, as it is not an easy thing to do.

It is so unusual to have two such bad men actually finding love and passion for each other. Normally, these two men would never be able to open up and risk their hearts. They also wouldn't normally be the type to forgive. X and Dima are two accomplished, well developed, and deep characters.

As Dima says in one part '"He's not cold. That's just one part of who he is...He's really warm..."'

There is some serious BDSM play and pain, including some gun play. The passionate possessiveness is amazing! The author does a stupendous job of combining these two bisexual men with a sexual openness and awareness that works so damn well.

But most importantly, there is just something insanely hot and intense about two evil men falling so damn hard for each other. And, the BDSM aspects of their relationship fits in so well with their naturally intense and violent worlds. It is superb and gives me all the feels!

In an nut shell, Avril Ashton, I am super impressed and amazed with (Watch Me) Break You!

Love It Like You Stole It is such a terrific surprise to me.  I love every second of this story by Ki Brightly.

Ben takes Mika under his wing to work in his garage. He's always been smitten with the young Mika, and continues to be so, now he thinking he's "sex on a stick, with a side of cream cheese." Mika, meanwhile, has been trying to impress Ben, but thinks that Ben doesn't even see him.

Ben however, has no idea that Mika has been forced into working for him by a gang leader. He is currently stripping cars and isn't being allowed to stop doing so.

Mika is one of the most beautiful broken men ever. His whole life has been one tragedy after another, taking all of the hits quietly, without complaint. He is being controlled completely by Teegan, a childhood friend, who now controls his gang.

Ben, meanwhile, is also a broken man, having lost his brother, Rick, to the streets several years ago. He is now making his niece his main priority, trying to save at least a part of his brother.

When Ben realizes that Mika is in some serious trouble, he steps in, demanding to know what is going on, so he can help. From them on, despite great intentions, the bad guys keep getting the upper hand. While their relationship will not be an easy one, in the end it is absolutely beautiful!

Love It Like You Stole It is a gripping, emotional ride and I highly recommend you treat yourself by picking up a copy.

Prologue
BEN JELEN

“It’ll be a month, Bennet.”

I clutched the small silver bolt so hard it cut into my palm. The pain wasn’t enough to distract me. Rick’s bottom lip jutted out. It always did when he was on a roll. He crossed his heavy arms, eyes shadowed by his ball cap. With a sigh, I ignored my big brother, cutting my attention to the object of our current bitchfest. Vandi, his daughter, lounged nearby with tiny pots of fingernail polish out on the dusty, paperwork-covered desk.

“I’ll be good, Uncle Ben,” she chirped, her bow mouth turned up into a wide smile. She almost wasn’t a little girl anymore. It wasn’t long ago that I’d sit with her and do the painting. The sun cutting into the garage through the open bay door lit up her gold curls making them shine brightly. Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration as she dabbed a little brush covered in pink paint at her thumb. In her white summer dress, she couldn’t have looked more out of place.

I bent back over the motor of the beat-up, blue Ford Taurus and stared at it without seeing much of anything.

“It’s damned good money. They need mechanics for when the machinery goes down. If her mother hadn’t—”

“Rick,” I warned. Vandi’s head snapped up at the mention of her mom. I had no intention of mopping up tears today. He leaned a hip against the front quarter panel of the car and rested an elbow there, sending me a winning grin. It was the same bullshit one I used when trying to get my own way. “I’ve known you your whole life. That shit don’t fly.”

He chuckled, but his smile didn’t waver as he leaned in close, pushing his cap back with a thumb. I caught a whiff of the cologne I used and sighed. He’d raided my dresser again. Looking at him was like looking in a mirror—his brown eyes and long face with its blunted nose were just like mine, except mine was cocked a little to the left. He wiggled his eyebrows, and I blew out a hard breath.

“Those oil rigs are dangerous, and ask next time you steal my stuff.” I poked him on the shoulder with my ratchet as he shrugged, not at all bashful about his thievery.

“It’s a month on, three weeks off. And with the bonuses, I could be pulling in over a hundred grand next year. We can get the garage set up right, get more clients in…I won’t do it forever.”

I frowned and rubbed at my chest. He winced and scowled right back, like maybe he understood why I was upset. The idea of Rick being away for more than a few days made me nauseous. We’d always been a little too close, and it only got worse after Mom died. I sneaked a look at Vandi to see what she was thinking about all this, but she didn’t seem to be listening.

“I’m not sure it’s worth it,” I muttered. Shit. Money. We sure could use more of it.

A low humming started up from Vandi—a familiar song from the radio. “Check it out!” She flashed her pink fingernails at us. Rick turned and nodded at her.

“Real pretty, baby doll,” he said fast, not quite covering up the irritation in his tone. Her smile vanished.

I smacked his arm, but he was back to cajoling me with his half grin. I smacked him upside the head, sending his ball cap flying, but he ignored it and patted my cheek.

“I want this garage to get off the ground,” he said, “and so far, we’ve only been getting in about five or six people a week because we don’t have a lift. I had to send Mrs. Hopper to fucking Firestone because we didn’t have the right size tires.” He waved his hand toward the empty space stretching out behind us that practically begged to be filled with equipment. “We don’t have half the shit we need…”

“What if you’re out there in the middle of the ocean and there’s a hurricane or a blowout or—”

“Get back here you four-eyed fuck!” someone shrieked from outside. The low voice cracked on the swear word.

“What the hell…” I turned to look over my shoulder, and the bolt from the oil filter slipped from my fingers. With a ting, it disappeared into the abyss of hoses in the engine. “Shit.”

I slammed my ratchet down on the motor casing, and the air compressor at the rear of the work area chose that moment to kick on, filling the old cement-block garage with its chugging clatter. I strained my ears, but the voices outside were drowned out. “Turn that off, Rick.”

Nodding, he headed back to flip the switch. Vandi craned her neck forward to look out the wide door.

“He thinks he’s too good to talk to us. Mickey Mouse won’t open his mouth.” The bully’s voice dipped deeper on that last word, and an instinct for trouble sent me striding out the door into the gravel parking lot, past the few sad vehicles waiting for their turn in the repair shop.

Across the small side street, three teen boys surrounded another one on the sidewalk. He was hunched in on himself with his arms crossed protectively over his gut, his stance practically screaming, “Hammer me.” One of the boys—short, with a mean twist to his lips and a cheap buzz cut on his carrottop—smacked the glasses off his prey. Sparkling in the late afternoon sun, the lenses sailed in an arc and landed in the street.

“Should we do something?” Rick’s long shadow loomed near mine, arms crossed.

“Come on, hit ’em back,” I muttered, clenching my fists. “Protect yourself.”

Instead, the kid just rubbed at the bridge of his nose with one hand. He was coltish and stretched thin, like he’d grown too fast. But he was tall, and if he would throw a punch, he’d have reach. He didn’t move to defend himself or say a word, though, simply stared at his feet. I glanced at Rick, but when I looked back, the tall boy was shaking his head. Sunlight caught and glimmered on blue highlights in his black hair. The short asshole shoved him hard while the other guys circled, grunting out guttural encouragement that puffed up Mr. Attitude.

Outrage propelled me toward them at a fast clip.

“Ooooh, fuck,” Rick said on a chuckle.

I hadn’t planned on anything more than bitching out the bullies—until the short kid threw a hard jab. The tall one gasped and staggered back a step at the blow, but one of the kids in the circle shoved him upright so he could take more abuse. Wincing, the tall kid shook his head so hard he seemed to make himself dizzy. He staggered to the side but righted himself at the last second.

“You’re no better’n me—us.” The short kid hopped up and down imitating a wet chicken, darting his gaze around the circle. “You’re no better than us!” He screamed out a war whoop as he lunged forward to land the next punch. The tall kid took it on his left cheek and—pow!—crumpled to his knees.

“You little shits! Knock it off!” I ran toward them, hands pinwheeling, but had to slow down as a car shot by, going way too fast on the narrow street, separating me from the teenagers. Crunch. I winced and sighed as I jogged past the flattened glasses. No coming back from that.

The kids stilled as I approached—became panicked, malicious little statues. But when I stepped onto the sidewalk, fists balled up at my sides, my shadow fell across them, and the obnoxious brats scattered, helter-skelter—like I might actually chase them down and dish out a taste of their own medicine.

“You better run, you little pricks. Stay off my block!” I yelled after them. “I’m badder than you’ll ever be!”
