Unholy Yearning (Sinful Natures #2) by Lynn Burke

As a Christian counselor, I strive for integrity in helping guide others in God’s will for their lives.

Until a young man walks into my office for premarital counseling—the stranger who ensnared my soul eight months earlier with his bewitching green eyes.

Levi Townson.

The one whose addictive, luscious mouth I can’t cleanse from my memory.

My hunger for another taste of him should assure me of my need for a savior, not shepherd me down the rabbit hole toward depravity.

Levi’s yearnings mirror mine, the kind that dominates my will. Incinerates and leaves me powerless against my sinful nature.

But if we fall from grace, neither of us will escape unscathed.

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

Unholy Yearning is a hot forbidden romance by Lynn Burke.

This book is hot from the start, with an arranged menage. That said, it took me a while to fully get invested in the characters.

At first, I hated the circumstances of this story. Besides the taboo nature, and the two men desperately aching for each other, it just seemed so icky to me. I don't want to give the storyline away, so I am purposely remaining vague.

But, by the end, I enjoy the way everything plays out.

This story includes an age gap and a whole lot of angst.

Overall, Unholy Yearning is an emotional, super steamy forbidden romance.

Duplicity
Blue Mountain University Book 1

Daniel
When my ex outed me, he also lied about our relationship, and everything changed. Now, I’ve been effectively disowned by my parents, and I haven’t dated anyone in almost nine months since. According to my friend, that’s too much time to waste regretting the actions of a good for nothing jerk. Part of me wants to get back out there, but I’m not sure. She insists on setting me up on a semi blind date with her old study buddy. But when I run into him on campus, he isn’t anything like she said.

Ian
I can count the number of people that I’ve told I’m bi on one hand, make that one finger. I’ve never been the out and proud type. So, when Daniel approached me nervously asking about a date, I was a little surprised, but I was also on my way to soccer practice and had no time to think it through. I gave him my number so we could meet up later and we went on a date the next weekend. It was great, and he kissed me when we were saying goodbye. Then he called me Aiden. That’s my brother’s name. Did I forget to mention I’m a twin?

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

Duplicity is the first book in the Blue Mountain University series. This AE Madsen book is a new adult romance that's a promising start for this series.

I absolutely love and crave college romances, so I jumped into this one with both feet. What's not to love about a closeted bisexual athlete falling in love? Add in that he's pretending to be his twin, and oh hell yeah, I'm intrigued.

Some people might not enjoy that Ian pretends to be his brother, and I understand that complaint. I definitely struggled with this and the way it all started. It just seemed "too easy" for someone who's supposed to be closeted. I'll also add that the twins are so completely different that it seems hard that anyone could ever mistake them for each other. But, damn it, I just didn't care. I was able to overlook that and just enjoy the story for what it is.

Of course, the secret is looming overhead throughout, as the reader knows that Dani will be mad. This adds plenty of tension and excitement for the reader, as these men are so darn sweet together. And of course, there's plenty of worry about the reveal, as the heartbreak is sure to be real.

Honestly, I'd be upset about the pretending thing if I didn't understand how hard it is for athletes to come out. This was just a good case of getting to be "out" without being "out." If you can overlook that, you'll enjoy the story.

Written in alternating first person pov, the writing flows well and the reader is easily brought into the emotions and thoughts throughout.

Overall, I enjoyed Duplicity. If you enjoy college sports, this AE Madsen tale is worth a try. It's a nice debut book and I'm excited to see what comes next in this series, as the friend group is simply delightful.

Now I’m about to find out if he’s just as daring off the ice.

I still can’t believe I dared Sebastian to take me with him to his summer cabin in the mountains . . . for two whole months.

But I did.

My friends call me “predictable Bettina,” because I’m always playing it safe.

Not anymore.

I’m throwing caution to the wind, being a little daring myself.

And maybe, just maybe, I’ll finally get what I want—Sebastian.

Dare on Ice is the tenth novel in the bestselling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.

*can be read as a standalone*

My Rating - 3.5  Stars!

Dare on Ice is the tenth book in the Boys of Winter series. This SR Grey book is a good addition to this sports world.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I definitely struggled with some of it. I didn't love the beginning of this book, as I didn't like Bettina's big crush on Sebastian. This tale starts with a blind date and ends up with the two traveling to a reclusive cabin together for a few weeks. Again though, I found this part weird as I didn't like her yet at all. She seemed too pushy and too drawn to his persona.

But, once I was able to overlook that, I enjoyed the story.

The attraction is instant between the two and the chemistry is certainly hot. But with Sebastian not looking for love, they start off as friends. I enjoy this aspect as I'm glad Sebastian held off for a bit.

The interaction between the two is full of banter and humor. This part is definitely a lot of fun.

Written in alternating first person pov, these characters full come alive and draw you into their world.

Dare on Ice is a delightfully swoony romance. SR Grey brings plenty of entertainment to this story and I'm glad to have followed them on their journey. Definitely check it out if you're in the mood for an athlete falling in love over the off season.

Sweetest Hate (Guys Next Door #2) by Baylin Crow

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Kellan—Messing around with Arsen is like playing with fire and I can't help but crave the burn.

The day I met my best friend's new stepbrother I fell into hate with the moody jerk. The feeling is mutual. I loathe him and unfortunately want him in equal measures. At least he seems to be suffering the same undeniable pull. He infuriates me. He's crawled under my skin.

Arsen has the ability to ruin me for anyone else, and I want to let him.

A mix-up during a trip to the lake puts us in an inconvenient situation where we end up sharing a room. Worse, once we get home, I'm left unable to escape him. He's right next door and impossible to ignore.

As we spend time together, I'm forced to realize there's so much more to him than I expected. I thought I had feelings for my best friend, but Arsen has me questioning everything I know about love.

It's the sweetest hate, or maybe it's something else entirely.

Sweetest Hate is the second book in the Guys Next Door series and can be read as a standalone. It's about two guys who may not hate each other as much as they thought. Maybe it's the opposite. Maybe they can teach each other exactly how to love.

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

The Sweetest Hate is the second book in Baylin Crow's Guys Next Door series. This one is definitely not your typical brother's best friend romance.

This one is a tough read for me. There's so much hatred between Arsen and his stepbrother. And I struggled with it a lot. As in, enough to ruin this book for me.

But, damn, in the end, I adore this story. Unfortunately, it took me way too long to get to that point. For the longest time, I was just annoyed by these men and all the hatred surrounding them.

Overall, it's a tale that explores thinking one's in love versus actually being in love. I love all the moments where the differences are illustrated. It's all well done. I just wish everything prior to this was easier to read.

In the end, the love the two have is everything you'd want. They both think of the other before themselves. They both want the other to succeed and be happy. If I had enjoyed the first half of this book more, I would be raving about this story.

But, again, I can't rave about this one. The end left me furious about how things are wrapped up with Arsen's stepbrother. Honestly, I just wanted to scream. I needed better for all these people.

I love most of Baylin Crow's books, but the Sweetest Hate is just okay in my opinion. It's a tough read that is missing something in my opinion. The main couple is ultimately fabulous, but everything leading up to their ending, and surrounding their relationship, left me frustrated.

RELEASE BLITZ, EXCERPT & REVIEW - MF - Doubletalk (Busy Bean #6) by Teralyn Mitchell

Cover Design: Elle Maxwell Designs

Basketball has always been his one love, until now . . .

Zeke Armstrong never imagined he’d be back in Vermont, but here he is, living in Colebury and trying to rehab an injury that could mean an early retirement from pro basketball. Running into his former classmate, Mallory Barrett, shouldn’t be a distraction. It shouldn’t mean anything, so why is he accidentally on purpose showing up at the coffee shop where the beautiful writer spends her time?

Mallory Barrett has met a guy. Well, she hasn’t met him yet, except for on the dating app she almost refused to download. “Coby” sparks her interest and gets her jokes--and gives the romance-novel heroes she loves so much a full-court run for their money. When their first date doesn’t work out, she decides to give him another shot . . . just as a man she despises reenters her life. While her interest in the mystery man on the app grows, she clashes constantly with Zeke in real life. She can’t forgive him for humiliating her in high school, yet she can’t deny she’s drawn to him now.

She’s somehow gone from confirmed bachelorette to the tie-breaker between two men.  Meanwhile Zeke has a secret--one that will cost him the game if Mallory finds out . .

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

Doubletalk is Teralyn Mitchell's contribution to the Busy Bean series. Each book in this multi-author series is a standalone.

Zeke is an NBA player who's back in Vermont while healing from an injury. His future is up in the air as he doesn't know if he can make it back into the game.

While home he gets to see his former best friend, Mallory, for the first time in years. There's plenty of emotion between them, as things got between them and they carry pain and hurt.

Both characters are at a roadblock with their careers. As Zeke struggles with his injury, Mallory's struggling with her writer's block.

This is a story with a lot of explanations and forgiveness. I enjoyed the characters and their journey, but I struggled to always stay connected to them. It's a story with an online dating app and a long carried secret that looms overheard for way too long. The storyline is promising, but I just don't love the way it's all executed.

Doubletalk is a nice addition to this small town world. But this Teralyn Mitchell book isn't my favorite in the series.

She didn’t wait for me to say anything else, spinning on her heels and heading for the nearest store or restaurant where she could sit down. I chuckled and turned to head in the other direction. A hard wall of muscle made me stumble. Two strong hands gripped my upper arms. I looked up to see who had saved me from falling and who I needed to thank. The need to be polite shriveled and died when I saw that it was Zeke holding onto my arms.

“Are you okay?”

The combination of his deep voice and his hands on me caused me to shiver. I shook him off. What the hell? Why was I always reacting to him? I didn’t like him or his stupid good looks. I crossed my arms over my stomach.

“Why are you always where I am?” I snapped.

“Small town?”

“We’re in Burlington.”

“Still small, Ror. You also don’t have a monopoly on all things Vermont.”

I rolled my eyes. He had me there. “So, you’re telling me you normally wander the Marketplace on a cold Sunday?”

“When I have something to do, I wander around,” he said. “And maybe Stacey texted me and told me the two of you would be here.”

I clenched my teeth. Of course, she told him we’d be here. She went out of her way to make my life hell. So even though today had been about me getting her back, somehow, she’d figured out how to stick it to me too. I mean, not really. It’d probably been innocent, but I was going to blame her anyway.

It was frustrating to continuously run into Zeke. He had a point about it being a small town. This was what I dreaded when I realized he was back in Vermont and living in the town I now called home.

“You and Stacey talk often?”

The smirk on his full lips made me narrow my eyes at him. I hugged myself tighter as my stomach clenched. A tingle down below, that I was not acknowledging, had me pursing my lips. Why did he have to be so goddamn handsome? I was sure women fell all over themselves when he smiled at them like he was smiling at me right now. Especially when that dimple in his left cheek popped, but I wasn’t going to. Delight danced in his hooded light brown eyes. His sharp jawline was sprinkled with hair that looked good on him; it wasn’t a full beard but cut close to his skin. Not that I was looking, or rather, staring.

“Jealous?”

I groaned. “Not even a little, but I do want to have the facts right when I confront her about divulging my location to the enemy.”

He let out a deep laugh. “You’ve always been a bit of a drama queen,” he teased. “Stace and I exchanged numbers the last time we happened to be at the Busy Bean. We’ve only talked a few times.”

“Whatever.” I was done with this conversation and being around him.

I started walking, only for him to fall into step beside me. I let him walk beside me for a few minutes before I couldn’t resist saying something.

“Can I help you?”

“I don’t think so, unless you work at Burlington Records.”

“That’s where you’re going?” I asked.

“Yep.”
