Rebel (Outlawed #0.5) by Sally Malcolm

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Falling in love is just the beginning...

Samuel Hutchinson has lived his whole life in Rosemont, Rhode Island. And as far as he’s concerned, his future is fixed: complete his legal training, marry a respectable woman, and settle down to raise a family.

But Sam never counted on meeting Nathaniel Tanner.

Clever, urbane, and dazzling, Nate has been banished to Rosemont by a father determined to remove him from the rising political tension in Boston. The last thing Nate expects to find in the sleepy Rhode Island town is a man who’s not only interested in Nate’s radical ideas, but who interests Nate in return.

In every conceivable way.

Over books and conversation, their friendship deepens. But when Nate dares to confess his true feelings, Sam faces a stark choice—reject his friend and continue to live a lie, or rebel against everything he’s been taught and embrace his heart’s desire…

This short story is approximately 12,000 words and comes with a HFN guaranteed.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Rebel is a wonderful historical short romance by Sally Malcolm.

Sam and Nate are coworkers who bond over books and easily fall in love. But they struggle with the expectations of the times. They want to fight their feelings, but they can only do so for so long.

In addition to society's expectations, they also have to deal with internal issues, as Sam thinks of homosexuality as a sin.

Thus, their story is one of giving into one's passions, and doing so in secret. I love it. It's so taboo for the times, and yet, it's exciting and hot when they do give into their wants and needs.

I enjoy these men together. Their friendship is strong. Their connection is even stronger. And the physical pull between them is undeniable.

Once again, the author excels in developing the historical feel throughout this novel. And, damn, I just adore a good historical romance that's set against the backdrop of homosexuality being illegal.

The author gives us only thirty six pages, but each other builds on the last, with the reader left satisfied, and never feeling like something is missing.

The Rebel is a great short tale. Luckily for us, This Sally Malcolm read is just a prequel to the Outlawed series, so there will be plenty more of these men.

A tender and triumphant story of forbidden love in the aftermath of war

When Captain Ashleigh Dalton went to war in 1914, he never expected to fall in love. Yet, over three long years at the front, his dashing batman, Private West, became his reason for fighting—and his reason for living.

For Harry West, an ostler from London’s East End, it was love at first sight when he met complex, compassionate Captain Dalton. Harry knew their friendship wouldn’t survive in the class-bound world back home, but in the trenches there was no point in worrying about tomorrow…

Now, gravely wounded, Ash has been evacuated home to Highcliffe House, his father’s Hampshire estate. Bereft of Harry, angry and alone, Ash struggles to fit into the unchanging world he left behind. Meanwhile, Harry, broken-hearted, doubts he’ll ever see his beloved captain again.

But when the guns fall silent and Harry finds himself adrift in London, a desperate hope carries him to Highcliffe House in search of work—and of the officer he can’t forget…

This novel is approximately 81,000 words and comes with a HEA guaranteed.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Sally Malcolm's The Last Kiss is a wonderful historical romance. From the first page, I was sucked into this story, reading it as fast as I could.

Ash and Harry are two men trapped in a world that isn't theirs. They are two men who aren't allowed to be together in any way. They met during the war and fell in love. But they are separated by class, status, and law.

The emotions are high and intense. Fear. Pain. Grief. Longing. Chemistry. More Fear. Anger. Sadness. Heartache. And yet more fear. My heart was hurting throughout, as the author expertly conveys all these emotions and more.

There are some great secondary characters as well, such as Olive, who is amazing. I love Olive. Not only is she understanding, she also has her own dreams that aren't available to her.

The writing is nothing short of fabulous, as I've come to expect from this author. The characters are developing throughout, the emotions jump right off the page, and the story line is positively riveting.

The Last Kiss is a touching story of unattainable dreams and forbidden love. This Sally Malcolm story will warm your heart and leave you with the happiest of endings. Read it.

Between the Lines (New Milton #2) by Sally Malcolm

Blurb

“I loved this book. It’s a reading highlight of this past year…gentle and lyrical but also engrossing and sexy.” —Cat Sebastian, author of A Gentleman Never Keeps Score

Theo Wishart has given up on finding love.

Luca Moretti doesn’t want to find it.

A handful of summer days may change their lives forever—if they’re brave enough to look between the lines.

Eyes might be windows to the soul, but for Theo Wishart they’re all shuttered. His dyspraxia makes it hard to read people. He doesn’t do relationships and he certainly doesn’t do the great outdoors. Two weeks spent “embracing beach life” while he tries to close the deal on a once great, now fading seaside hotel is a special kind of hell.

Until Luca. Gorgeous, unreachable Luca.

Luca Moretti travels light, avoiding all romantic entanglements. Estranged from his parents, he vows this will be his last trip home to New Milton. His family’s hotel is on the verge of ruin and there’s nothing Luca can do to save it. He’s given up on the Majestic, he’s given up on his family and he’s given up on his future.

Until Theo. Prickly, captivating Theo.

No mushy feelings, no expectations, and no drama—that’s the deal. A simple summer fling. And it suits them both just fine. But as the summer wanes and their feelings deepen, it’s clear to everyone around them that Theo and Luca are falling in love. What will it take for them to admit it to themselves—and to each other?

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Sally Malcolm's Between The Lines is an amazing read.

Luca comes home to his mom and homophobic step-father for one last time. And I fell in love with him and his plight from the start. The small town of New Milton immediately comes to life, easily placing the reader in the setting.

Both Luca and Theo have a complex relationship with their parents. Both men are multi-layered who come together with a quick connection. What follows is an emotional journey as they deal with their trust issues. The men butt heads at the start, but they definitely end up being perfect for one another. Unfortunately, they don't live near one another, which is just one more issue they have to face.

Overall, Luca's self discovery/awareness is a stellar issue that pulls the plot along. I love it, both in it's subject matter and it's development. It's something we see way too often, and witnessing someone coming to terms with their issues, and making amends is inspirational. The character growth is stellar!

Theo's dyspraxia is wonderfully written, full of understanding and care. The author perfectly illustrates the physical and emotional effects.

The following quote is my favorite. Both poignant and thought-provoking, it's well worth repeating it.

'"People lie all the bloody time. I mean, they call it sarcasm or good manners or irony or horsing around, but when you can't tell the difference...?"...It's easy to make mistakes."'

It's no surprise that the writing is fabulous, as the author excels in bringing settings and characters to life.

The storyline is definitely predicable, but never disappointing. It's full of denial, confusion, and coming to terms with one's feelings. The family elements are amazingly well developed.

And if you've read Perfect Day, which I loved, you'll enjoy getting to witness Josh and Finn's wedding.

Between the Lines is a beautiful story of fear, as Luca struggles with taking a chance on love. It's a stunning story of finding what one truly wants out of life. This Sally Malcolm book is a fantastic read.

A Perfect Day is a beautiful second chance romance by Sally Malcolm.

I was instantly intrigued with this book. It's tender, emotional and sweet. I felt as if I was snuggled up in a warm blanket while someone told me a romantic love story.

Josh and Finn met while they were young, spending an idyllic summer together at the beach. They both felt that strong, profound connection of devotion and dreamt of spending their lives together.

But everything changed when Josh chose his family over Finn. Now, eight years later, they meet again. Finn never expected to see Josh again, let alone cleaning tables in a coffee shop, as he was supposed to be a successful CEO somewhere.

Both man have changed a lot over the years, including their positions in life. Back then, Finn wasn’t worthy of being with Josh’s rich family. Now, Josh’s dad is in jail and Josh is financially struggling, while Finn is a rich actor.
One great theme in this book is memories. Can we just forget our memories for a while when we’re not thinking about them? Or are they gone forever? Do they start coming back in small echoes? Or in complete recollection?

Josh and Finn’s love story consists of an instant connection, amazing remembrances, regrets, questions, misunderstandings, secrets, and most importantly, another try.

Sometimes one is meant to be with their first love, even if it requires a lot of work to get to that point. For Josh and Finn, the love remained all along even if it was ignored for years. Seeing them come back together and rekindle their relationship is exquisite, as they truly are meant for each other and make each other better people.

I highly recommend Sally Malcolm’s Perfect Day to anyone who loves a good second chance romance.

The last thing Joel Morgan wants is to fall in love again. Scarred by his failed marriage, Joel’s determined to keep his life emotionally stable—which means taking a job teaching fourth grade, fixing up his house on weekends, and avoiding absolutely all romantic entanglements. And he's doing great.

Until he meets sweet but struggling single dad, Ollie Snow.

Following the tragic death of his sister and her husband two years earlier, Ollie became the legal guardian of their two young sons—much to the horror of the boys’ conservative grandparents. They think Ollie’s too young and too unreliable to raise their grandsons. So to prove them wrong, Ollie’s determined to parent the boys without anyone’s help.

Until he meets reserved but caring teacher, Joel Morgan.

As the only two men in the school’s Parent-Teacher Association, Joel and Ollie are thrown together over a series of fundraising events, and somewhere between the Beach Fun Run and the Fall Festival they fall in love. But Ollie has another reason for moving to New Milton—a reason he’s keeping close to his chest—and Joel’s wounded heart won’t trust a man with secrets.

Dare they hope for a future together, or will their past pain keep them apart forever?

Twice Shy is an enjoyable romance by Sally Malcolm.

Ollie's a young parent now, since becoming guardian to his two young nephews. Meanwhile, Joel's a teacher who's secretly bisexual, passing as straight to everyone as he has an ex wife.

When the two meet, the attraction is intense. What follows is a part forbidden parent/teacher romance, loaded with tension and sparks.

Their story includes some enjoyable characters, a great town, and some adorable kids. The storyline is fun with just the right amount of angst.

The a
uthor does a great job illustrating the biased opinions against bisexuals. Joel firmly believes he needs to
hide his bisexuality, as this issue is well explored.

Twice Shy is a delightful small town romance. Sally Malcolm creates a great mix of kids, closeted relationship, some mystery, and a whole lot of connection.

Sally Malcolm was bitten by the male/male romance bug in 2016 and hasn’t looked back.

Perfect Day was her first published male/male romance, with the follow-up (Between the Lines) out later in 2018 and a dozen other ideas bubbling away on the back burner. Her stories are emotional, sweetly angsty, and always have happy endings.

She lives in South West London with her American husband, two lovely children, and two lazy cats.
