Damn! I love this book. Everything about Proficiency Bonus works for me. I enjoy the way they meet and all that develops between them. Yet another awesome book by Charlie Novak. 

I adore that they meet over their love of video games. It's precious and cute. 

And damn, they are freaking hot together! I mean HOT!!!

Jason's career is a large aspect of this story. He's an actor, often recognized, and isn't so happy with the way his acting career is going. I love that Lewis doesn't even think about him as an actor. 

The way his career is played out is heart breaking, with twists and turns, and totally realistic. I felt all of his pain, as well as the fans' pain.

 

This book includes plenty of Pokemon talk and giant plushies! Love it. 

The ADHD factor is written with knowledge and care. I totally appreciate how it's described and plays into the character. All of it is realistic and relatable. 

The writing is great. Written in alternating first person pov, both men fully come to life and are well developed. 

Proficiency Bonus is truly a compelling read. I love this Charlie Novak book. It's fabulously feel good and perfect the next time you want a hot, happy read.

“I’m sorry, but who are you?”

“Oh shit. Sorry. God, I really need to remember to introduce myself. I probably look like an arrogant twat.” He reached out his hand to shake mine, and when our fingers touched, something sparked under my skin. “And now I’m giving you static shocks.” He chuckled in an adorably self-deprecating way. “I’m so smooth. I’m Jason.”

“Lewis.” Jason’s hand was warm and smooth against mine, his grip firm but gentle. I swallowed. Focus, Lewis, focus.

“So, Lewis, can I get you some coffee? And then we could have that battle.”

“Yeah, that sounds great. If you’re hungry, the pastries actually aren’t too bad. I’ve had worse.”

Jason nodded, his smile widening. “Good to know. Hang on, I’ll be right back.”

He hopped out of the chair and strode across to the refreshment table, and I resisted the temptation to stare at his behind by casually sliding my phone out of my pocket and pulling up the convention website. It took me all of two seconds to realise who Jason was: Jason Lu, star of Celestials and a man beloved by more than just his own fandom.

I couldn’t believe I hadn’t recognised him. Even without his character’s snazzy fashion sense and dark, smoky eye makeup, Jason still looked enough like his character to be recognizable. And I’d seen his likeness enough times through manips, gifs, and fanart that I was familiar with it. I just hadn’t been able to place him.

Celestials wasn’t my favourite show, but I’d dipped in and out. Mostly because I’d seen a ridiculously hot gifset of Jason and another man training together, which had rapidly devolved into them making out on the mats. Turned out, the actual scene had been even longer with phenomenal amounts of sexual tension that had had me melting into my seat. I’d watched it about a billion times on YouTube.

And now, apparently, we were going to play Pokémon together. Because that was apparently a thing I did now?

Off The Pitch is a fantastic collection by Charlie Novak. Having previously read and reviewed the three main stories, I knew I needed this complete collection. 

Breakaway, Extra Time and Final Score are each wonderful sports romances. With sports romances being my absolute favorite, it's no surprise that I devoured these books quickly. 

Breakaway is a second chance romance with a closeted player. Their separation gutted me, leaving me sad for them immediately. This one is largely about being gay in sports and the intense fear of coming out. 

Extra Time is a super sweet, cavity inducing romance with a demisexual character. This one has a ex player who had to retired due to an injury. He's trying to figure out his life now that he's done with sports and is divorced. The other meanwhile is an eccentric artist who will charm you throughout. 

And Final Score is a great feel good read about a closeted bisexual athlete. This one involves a hookup to love situation with a fifteen year age gap. They also have a distance issue, as they are from different parts of the world. 

Add in the extra content of Hat Trick, Silverware, International Break, and Full Time, and you can't go wrong with this collection.

The author's writing style is stellar, with superb character development, a smooth pace, and some steamy scenes. 

Off The Pitch is a must read for any fan of sports romances. Everything about this Charlie Novak serious is perfect! I love each of the couples and their riveting relationships.

Awww...Strawberry Kisses is a super sweet fake boyfriend romance. Charlie Novak will leave you with a cavity after reading this friends to lovers romance. 

Patrick and Connor are two best friends who secretly love one another. When they pose as fake boyfriends for a family party, the real fun begins. 

The careers are a great addition to this story. One's a pastry chef, the other a dance teacher. Each career is discussed a lot, fully being a part of this tale. 

I love these men. Both are so clueless that the other is madly in love with them. Oh Connor. I adore that he's small, yet loud. He wears makeup and heels and loves to be the top. It's awesome the way his personality flies off the pages. And Patrick, awww, Patrick. Coming out to his parents is a big deal to him. He is Connor's complete opposite, shy and quiet. I love and adore their opposite personalities. 

I love Patrick's family. They truly are amazing. They're supportive and loving. But they set off a chain of events that the two can't escape. 

Written in alternating 1st person pov, both men fully come to life, unique personalities, as well as feelings. The pace is great, the flow nice, and the tone pleasant. The author will make you hungry with the pastry talk, and you'll fall in love with the great cast of friends and family. 

Everything about Strawberry Kisses is beautifully fluffy. This Charlie Novak tale will leave you delightful, from their secret feelings, to some awkward moments, to romantic declarations. It's the perfect low angst, feel good romance.

I smiled and nodded, leaning on the counter while I tried to stop my heart from racing a million miles a minute. I’d never felt this nervous before. What was it about seeing Leo that had my stomach in knots?

A snuffling noise distracted me, and I looked over the counter to see an adorable pair of brown eyes gazing up at me.

“Hi there,” I said, reaching my hand tentatively down to gently rub the dog’s head. The brindle fur was soft under my fingers. They pushed into my hand, happily demanding more ear rubs. From the look of them, I thought they might be some form of Staffy, but my knowledge of dogs was iffy at best. “Aren’t you cute?”

The dog huffed happily, and a pink tongue darted out to lick my hand. I chuckled.

“I see you’ve met Angie.” Leo’s gruff voice made me look up. He stood in the doorway behind the counter, tattooed forearms crossed and a little twinkle in his amber eyes.

“Shit. Sorry,” I said, pulling my hand away.

“Don’t apologise. She likes the attention. Don’t you girl?” An uncontrollable grin slid across my lips as I watched Angie potter over to Leo, plopping down next to him and resting her head against his leg. He reached down to rub behind her ears and my heart melted.

I know I’d told Edward I wasn’t interested in dating, but surely it was still okay to look. It wasn’t my fault Leo was genuinely the most handsome man I’d seen in forever or that he unwittingly ticked all the boxes on Jay’s checklist of attractiveness.

He was tall and muscular but not in a way that suggested he spent hours at the gym. He definitely looked strong enough to pick me up though, and I was not going to even consider how much that idea turned me on. His dark hair was pulled up into a messy topknot, and his neatly trimmed beard didn’t hide his wide mouth. And then there were the tattoos.

Lord have fucking mercy.

I’d always found ink attractive, and I had enough of my own, but when I looked at Leo, my lizard brain wanted to strip off his clothes and lick his entire body. I’d seen his two full tattoo sleeves—each one a beautiful series of vines and flowers, intricately woven down his arms—and the simple black geometric pieces that decorated the backs of his hands. Looking at him now, I could also see hints of ink poking out of the collar of the thick knitted sweater he was wearing, the sleeves pushed up to his elbows. Even the idea that he had chest and neck tattoos made my insides squirm.

Charlie Novak's Screens Apart is a hot, sexy, and steamy friends to lovers romance. 

Not only are Simon and Taylor friends, they are also roommates. Without knowing it, they establish an online relationship which becomes serious. And then they start hooking up in real life, with a hot roommates with benefits situation. 

What follows is a fun tale that includes sex toys, lingerie, and lace. Their sex scenes are seriously panty melting. 

And then the feelings develop into more than friendship, as emotions subtly change and evolve. I love these two and the way they find love together. 

The writing is great, with an entertaining storyline and two intriguing characters. The pace is wonderful and the emotions are front and center. And then there are the sex scenes. If you like hot, look no further. I didn't love all of the online aspect, thus the less than 5 star rating. 

Screen Apart is a fast paced, easy, delightful read. This Charlie Novak tale is a fantastic romance that develops over time.

I was so lost in my thoughts, I didn’t hear the door click open, and I didn’t realise I had company until I heard Taylor speaking behind me.

“That’s an awful lot of batteries,” he said, a note of amusement in his voice. I jumped, nearly banging my head on one of the fridge shelves as I spun around, my face flaming. “Got anything fun planned?” Taylor’s lips curled into a smirk that made a little shiver run down my spine.

Fuck! How could he reduce me to a speechless mess without even trying?

“I, um, I-I,” I stammered, no words coming out of my mouth. Shit, why couldn’t I just lie to him? Then again, what would I need twenty-four batteries for? It wasn’t as if I played a lot of video games and needed them for a controller.

“That’s a yes then,” Taylor said, stepping towards me. I froze. He picked up the pack and turned it over in his hands. “You must have some wonderful toys if you need this many,” he said. There was a dark glint in his eyes as he looked at me, and my dick twitched in my work trousers, precum leaking into my underwear.

My brain was suddenly supplying me with the filthiest fantasies it could dream up on the spot. All I could think about was Taylor spreading me out on his bed and using all my toys on me, making me come over and over until I was a spent, sated mess on the sheets.

“You know, we could have a lot of fun together. And I know that I’ll be much better than your toys.” Taylor looked me up and down, raising one eyebrow as his gaze skimmed over my crotch. Apparently, it was very, very obvious how hard I was, and I wished the ground would open and swallow me up.

“Don’t be embarrassed,” Taylor said, his voice gentle, almost concerned. He stepped towards me again. “I think you’re gorgeous, Simon, and I know I want you. But if you want me to stop, I’ll never mention this again and we can pretend it never happened. I promise, nothing has to change.”

“No.” I managed to force the words out as my brain came back online. I needed to tell him what I wanted before he walked away, and I lost my chance forever. Sure, Taylor was just offering sex, nothing more. But I was a thousand percent sure that it would be the best sex I’d ever had, and even if that was all I ever got from him, that would be enough.

“I want you. Please.” I licked my lips, taking a step forward. We were practically touching now. “Please, Taylor. I need you inside me.”

Taylor smiled hungrily, reaching up to caress my jaw. “Oh, Simon, we are going to have so much fun.”
