Got Me Looking (Vet Shop Boys, #3) by Casey Cox

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

A jilted groom and a guy who doesn’t believe in monogamy fall in love? Yeah. Right.

After getting cheated on at my own goddamn wedding, I’m through with men. I’m approaching fifty, and all I’ve ever wanted is to settle down, get married, and live happily ever after. But yeah, that hasn’t exactly worked out great for me.

The last person I expect to understand me is Tate. Sure, he’s cute, curious, and clever. A firecracker with no filter who somehow manages to stay friendly and genuine at the same time. But he isn’t exactly a settle-down kinda guy. Oh, and did I mention he’s also twenty years younger than me?

There’s no way something could ever happen between the two of us, so how is it possible that Tate has got me looking at love––and him––in a whole new light?

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Got Me Looking is a great romance by Casey Cox that explores types of love.

Earlier in the series, Gus was heartbroken upon discovering his husband was cheating on his at his own wedding reception. Ouch! This perfectly sets the tone for Gus's story and the reader's desire to see him find his happy ending.

Starting off his own love story, Gus is now set up with Tate as his "chaperone" for the night. The attraction is definitely there between these two, but Tate is open about being polyamorous, while Gus is monogamous.

With the two agreeing to a fake relationship for a short term, things get interesting as their time spent together leads to a strong connection.

Overall, their tale explores being poly versus monogamous, and the exploration of one's own sexuality. I applaud the author for the way this is all developed, in a true manner, never cheapening what it means to be poly. Instead we get an honest and raw internal conflict of one's own views.

I enjoy every moment of this story. It's a May to December romance in which the age gap is never an issue. The chemistry is amazing and the emotions felt throughout.

Got Me Looking is a wonderful read. Be sure to pick up this Casey Cox book if you're in the mood for a romance that shouldn't work out, but does. You won't regret it.

Hide Your Love Away is Book One in the IF I FELL Series.

Age Gap, Hurt/Comfort, Keeping Secrets, Opposites Attract Adult Contemporary MM Romance.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Hide Your Love Away is the first book in the If I Fell series by Mia Kerick.

This story has so much going for it. It's an age gap tale between Cole and Timmy. This is a unique to me idea, as Cole is a college employee who falls for one of the students.

I love the sneaking around they have to do, as well as why. Cole's working at the college to pay the tuition for his son. His son who happens to be friends with Timmy.

The dynamics between Cole and his son are so damn tough to read at times. In the end, it all makes sense, but oh god, it's hard to read. Poor Cole. My heart hurt so much for him. And it isn't easy to like his son at all.

The stalker aspect is an addition that adds a lot of tension and danger, as his presence is felt throughout the story.

Cole and Timmy are just so damn sweet together. They can't ignore their chemistry and neither can the reader. They're certainly hot together. I actually enjoy the way Cole handles everything, although it's a little hard to believe Timmy would go along with all of it at first.

I love the author's writing style, but I would have enjoyed more background on Timmy. It's hard to get to know him properly, although it's easy to feel bad for him.

Hide Your Love Away is a nice age gap romance. I was definitely invested in this Mia Kerick tale from the start, and couldn't wait to figure out what was going to happen. There's enough angst to keep things intriguing, even if you don't care about age gap romances. As for now, I am left excited to see what happens next in this series.

Special Release Excerpt:

“I kick my clothes from my ankles and lift Timmy to the bed. “Just lie back and let me take care of you.”

“You, you just said…,” He curls up on his side and lets go another one of those angsty yelps.

I pull off his sneakers and joggers and then the snug boxer briefs beneath. I help him to sit up so I can take off his vest and T-shirt. “Why are you—what’s wrong, Timmy?”

Again, he shuts his eyes, this time scrunching them tightly.

“Look at me. You need to look at me when you answer,” I insist.

“He nods once and opens his eyes, though he must grit his teeth to do it. “Nobody loves me.”

I love you.”

He shakes his head. “But you can’t.”

I know why he believes he isn’t worthy of love. My job is to prove it’s not true. “Yes, I can. Just try and stop me.”

I push him onto his back on the bed, climb on top of him, and fix my lips to his. He opens his mouth wide and frenzied tongue action starts.

“No Timmy, you don’t need to do that. Let me kiss you.”

When his body goes limp, I’m afraid I’ve hurt his pride.

I’m gentle when I kiss him, and his lips move carefully against mine. Soon I shift my attention to the vulnerable underside of his jaw and then the sleek column of his neck. I’m not sure he’s aware that he lifts his chin to receive more of my kisses. I lavish hordes of affection on him—all the love and care and passion I’ve held inside for twenty lonely years. And I don’t even stop to wonder how I can possibly love Timmy after such short time together.

I don’t need to ask this question.

It’s simple fact that I feel everything for this young man. It clicks with us. I know this as I know that the sky is blue, and the sun burns hot, and Timmy’s eyes are as deep and endless as the ocean. Tomorrow I’m going to talk to Robbie so I can bring Timmy fully into my life.

Award-winning gay romance author and mother of four, Mia Kerick, knows that a satisfying romance novel is riddled with challenges. For true love to prevail, the leading men are going to have to put in some effort. But the HEA is oh-so rewarding.

From Jane Eyre’s Mr. Rochester to Brokeback Mountain’s Ennis and Jack, Mia has a great affinity for the tortured hero in literature. Her contemporary gay romance focuses on such steamy tropes as hurt/comfort, forbidden love, and enemies/friends to lovers. She firmly believes that sometimes you have to break his heart to save him. In Kerick’s books, the course of true love truly never does run smooth.

Mia’s books have been featured in Kirkus Reviews magazine. They have won a 2019 IPPY GOLD award for Juvenile/Young Adult Fiction, a 2018 YA GOLD MOONBEAM Children’s Book Award, a YA Readers’ Favorite Award, several Gold Rainbow Awards in YA and adult categories, a Reader Views’ Book by Book Publicity Literary Award, the Jack Eadon Award for Best Book in Contemporary Drama, a YA Indie Fab Award, a First Place Royal Dragonfly Award for Cultural Diversity, a First Place Story Monsters Purple Dragonfly Award, and more. Mia cheers for each and every victory made in the name of human rights. Her only major regret: never having taken typing or computer class in school, destining her to a life consumed with two-fingered pecking and constant prayer to the Gods of Technology.

Valor: The Complete Duology by Keira Andrews

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Forbidden love in the White House—read the complete action-packed romance!

He’d give his life to protect the president’s son. But he never expected to risk his heart.

Growing up gay in the White House hasn’t been easy for Rafael Castillo. Codenamed “Valor” by the Secret Service, Rafa feels anything but brave as he hides in the closet and tries to stay below the radar in his last year of college.

It’s definitely not part of Rafa’s plan to get a hot new Secret Service agent, but he’s made it this long dateless and innocent, keeping his desires strictly to himself. Besides, it’s not like Shane Kendrick would even look at him twice if it wasn’t his job.

While protecting the president’s shy, boring son isn’t Shane's dream White House assignment, it’s an easy enough task since no one pays Rafa much attention. He discovers there’s a vibrant young man beneath the timid public shell, and while he knows Rafa has a crush on him, he assures himself it’s harmless. Shane’s never had room for romance in his life, and he’d never cross that line with a protectee.

But he's never been tempted like this before.

Even if Shane and Rafa can run away together, will their forbidden love survive in the real world?

Read Valor on the Move and Test of Valor in one convenient collection!

Valor: The Complete Duology by Keira Andrews is a collection of two M/M bodyguard gay romances featuring an age difference, Jane Austen levels of pining, first times, forbidden love against the odds, and of course a happy ending.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Valor: The Complete Duology is a fabulous read by Keira Andrews. I am thrilled that these books are being re-released in this duology, as I loved them when I first read them years ago.

This is forbidden romance at it's finest, with the President's son falling for his bodyguard. Cue all the feels. I love the way the two slowly connect, despite knowing they shouldn't. They bond on a level a bodyguard shouldn't bond with his charge. And it's awesome!

There's plenty of intrigue, danger, and action. This is Washington after all. There's romance, politics, and plenty of sexual connection. And, of course, with his dad being in the White House, Rafa has been hiding his sexuality.

Their story also includes grief and loss, and learning to make the most out of one's life. This part is wonderfully done.

I enjoy the forbidden aspect a lot, as it certainly leads to some interesting things once they are outed. I also enjoy the complex nature of the family issues.

I don't want to give everything away, but the two fight hard to be together and to be accepted among Rafa's family and Shane's colleagues. Both men get a chance for happiness and fully embrace this opportunity.

Valor: The Complete Duology is a fabulous bodyguard romance. I enjoy every moment of this Keira Andrews gem. The relationship, as well as the political factor are riveting. If you haven't yet read this one, do yourself a favor and set some time aside for it.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Yes, Captain is everything I love in a romance, a beautiful May to Dec relationship, combined with a forbidden element, secret romance, and the sensual world of dance. Formally released and published as Dance With Me, I am happy to re-read this tale with some added content.

The ship's captain, William finds himself attracted to the new dancer on the cruise ship, Eddie. As the attraction is mutual, Eddie ends up flirting with William before realizing that he's the captain.

As the two should never be together, and Will is still reeling from a broken marriage, they take things slow and really get to know one another. Thus, in addition to their hot and heavy moments, their friendship starts to blossom and the feelings become strong.

I love Eddie's flamboyant, lovable character. He is just fun and so damn likeable. Will, meanwhile, is the Silver Fox, strong captain. When he lets himself loose and has fun, it is wonderful.

One of the best lines in the story is Will referring to his ex. "Don't waste the energy hating him. I'm better off without him."

Yes, Captain is a fun, fast paced, gripping romance. Ann Grech has a complete winner with this book!

She graduated with a PhD in 2016 and is now an over-qualified nerd. Glasses, briefcase, high heels and a pencil skirt, she’s got the librarian look nailed too. If only they knew! She swears like a sailor, so that’s got to be a hint. The other one was “the look” from her tattoo artist when she told him that she wanted her kids initials “B” and “J” tattooed on her foot. A lonely Daddy. An innocent boy. A twenty-year age gap. Whatever happens next is in Daddy’s hands.

Finding his way in life all on his own hadn’t been easy for eighteen-year-old Elliot Hedrick, but he’d managed to hold it all together so far.

Even though it was just by the skin of his teeth.

Between his warehouse job and pursuing a career as a professional ballet dancer, he’d been working sixteen-hour days and was still barely making ends meet.

He was fraying at the seams. And he was so damn lonely.

There was nobody for him to lean on, nobody to come to his rescue when things fell apart—it was all up to him to achieve his dreams.

Then suddenly Grant Weston charged into Elliot’s life, his knight in shining armor—literally and figuratively—and despite their twenty-year age gap, Grant couldn’t seem to leave the boy alone. Even though Grant knew he should.

There were too many obstacles between them—and not just their ages. Grant had secrets of his own, ghosts from his past that made him hold back from taking what he really wanted from Elliot.

And what Grant wanted was to make Elliot his boy.

To have a true partner.

But Grant was afraid to trust himself—afraid that history would repeat itself and leave him with a broken heart yet again.

Is age really just a number, or will the years between them end their relationship before it can even start?

Finding His Boy is the first book in a duet taking place in the Safe Harbor universe but can be read as a stand-alone and has an HFN ending. This book is a 90+K word slow burn, steamy romance that features a Daddy/boy relationship between two consenting adult men. No age play. Dual POV. There are explicit descriptions of sexual acts, so this book is intened for a mature audience (18+).

Trigger Warning: On-page physical assault (not between MCs), mention of sexual assault.

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

Finding His Boy is a good May to December romance by KD Ryan. The first book of the Safe Harbor series, it's a nice combination of age gap, daddy kink, and slow burn.

Grant and Elliot's romance is one with a twenty year age gap. Grant's a teacher at the college who knows Elliot, as he used to teach at his high school. But there's nothing keeping them apart now, other than Grant's fear of how it would look. But damn, the man is terrified to come out as being involved with a former student of his and this greatly drives him.

Elliot's a dancer who's alone in the world. His father died and his background is heartbreaking. The poor man. He's such a survivor after enduring all he has. He's a truly lovable character.

There's an attempted rape scene that is definitely a tough read. Avoid this book if that is a trigger for you.

This attempted rape scene is what brings them men together. Grant's in the locker room and is able to save Elliot from being attacked. The interesting thing is how much they take note of each other's nudity despite the circumstances.

Everything that follows is mostly total sweetness. The two can't deny their attraction and the way their connection grows is great. I enjoy the way they both help the other heal. Their relationship is definitely a slow burn one though.

Their story includes an ass of an acquaintance. They have to deal with some bad decisions and someone wanting to cause them trouble. It's always fun to have someone to hate.

One thing I found to be highly disappointing however is that we all know something fishy happened with the estate when Elliot's father died. It's mentioned and alluded to, but it's never brought up again. That's a big missing element to me. As Elliot's debt is a driving factor for his character, I want justice for him and am greatly upset that he never gets it.

Overall, Finding His Boy is a nice read. KD Ryan packs plenty of great moments into this read. I am hoping the next book in the series is even better.

Grant knew he should pull back, he should close the door—that would be the smart thing to do. He should be respectful of Elliot’s privacy.

Because if he crossed this line, there would be no going back—all of his noble rationalizing about not taking advantage of Elliot’s vulnerability would be out the window.

But fuck, the boy was incredibly gorgeous—the planes of his slim muscular body highlighted in a soft blue glow from the moon, his face a study in shadow and light. He looked so young, so vulnerable, and so ripe for the taking. Exposed, ready for Grant to sink his teeth into the pale expanse of flesh on display, to mark Elliot as his.

If Grant stepped further into the room now—and he wanted to, oh he’d never wanted anything so badly in his life, he could taste the wanting like metal on his tongue—where would that choice bring them?

Because the boy had no clue what Grant wanted to do to him.

He couldn’t know how Grant wanted to use him. To flay him wide open with word and action and touch, and pick apart the soft tender insides of him, to leave him wanting and vulnerable and his. To deliver the safety and comfort and pleasure that his boy craved and that only he—Grant—could give.

Grant’s own possession.

His boy.

Those words—his boy—they acted like a bucket of cold water—a wave of uncertainty and apprehension to temporarily subdue his lust. Was this just history repeating itself? Would Elliot realize a year down the line that Grant couldn’t give him what he wanted, and Grant would be left high and dry once again?

Could Grant risk his heart like that again? The thought of sharing that experience with someone, only for his heart to be trampled, handled carelessly, and discarded…

He should leave now, back out and pretend he’d never been here. Just leave and act like nothing had changed the next day. Leave this beautiful boy whole and innocent and let someone else break him in gently, softly, like he deserved. Someone he could grow with, change with, learn with.

Fuck, he was a coward.

But then

But then Elliot opened his eyes. And he parted his lips. And he kept on pumping his hand up and down as he locked his eyes with Grant’s, his heated gaze burning with open desire.

Desire for Grant.

And Grant knew he couldn’t walk away.

Just a dreamer fueled by coffee who’s been writing about love that comes in all forms since she got her first word processor. Passionate bibliophile and lover of science, caretaker of humans and friend to dogs.

Songs of a Red Currant Wine (Colors of Love #6) by V.L. Locey

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

No matter how far you go love will always lead you home again.

The world has changed quite a bit since Carl Cimino was a young man in Port Plechard. The small Connecticut coastal town once had everything that he held dear: his family, his friends, his hockey team, his school, and his first love, Mike Rinnert. Back then gay boys didn’t parade along the rocky shores in bright rainbow swim trunks. They hid their shame then moved away or married a nice girl and pretended to be happy. After a dismal marriage attempt and a lackluster playing career that ended with an equally unsatisfying coaching job, Carl is called back to Port Plechard to attend Mike’s funeral and swears that he’s just seen a ghost.

Either that or he’s had one too many sips of his father’s homemade wine. He soon discovers that the spirit hovering around Mike’s grave isn’t a phantom at all, it’s Tigh, Mike’s much younger brother. Tigh is nearly an exact replica of young Mike right down to his dark sensual eyes, wavy hair, and lips that beg to be kissed. The two men are drawn to each other immediately, but there’s more than one hurdle to overcome: a sizeable age difference, small-town gossip, personal demons, family problems, and a hurricane just to name a few.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

VL Locey's Songs of a Red Currant Wine is an absolutely beautiful May to December romance. The sixth book in the Colors of Love series, it's a powerful standalone.

I was drawn in from the start, as we meet Carl, a former hockey player, who's in his fifties and floundering through life.

The first scene between Carl and Tigh, when Carl believes that Tigh is Mike's ghost, wow. What a scene! I love it.

This story is one with years of homophobia, not just in a small town, but also in the hockey world. It's a tale that explores the ramifications of spending one's life in the closet. Lying to others and denying himself from being honest has left Carl an unhappy alcoholic.

And then he meets Tigh.

What follows is a journey of starting over, finding a purpose and grabbing onto happiness. I love the way the author gives Carl a chance to live authentically. Seeing him do what he wants to do instead of what he's been conditioned to do is wonderful.

If you enjoy romances with closeted athletes, you will love this story. Damn, the sports world is tough to live as openly gay, and with Carl being in his fifties now, he certainly couldn't have been open when he was younger.

The ex's brother aspect is obviously a huge deal when they first meet. But it's never an obstacle, which is quite impressive.

Songs of a Red Currant Wine is a serious story, full of pain and addiction. But this VL Locey romance is one of getting over one's past and working on a better future. And it's fantastic. Basically, another amazing book by VL!
