Gypsy Heart by Ann Lister

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Brett “Gypsy” Hart has never been one to abide by social norms, whether it’s professionally with his band, Gypsy Heart, or in his private life. He’s had an ongoing relationship with his music collaborator for many years but never fully committed to him nor said those three all-important words. Now Gypsy’s longtime love is gone, and he’s left picking up the pieces of his life while settling his friend’s estate.

Jacob McKinney owns the local cafe. He knows who Gypsy is the moment he walks into his restaurant and also knows why the famous musician is in town. They were formally introduced years ago, but he doubts Gypsy remembers him, which is just fine. Although Gypsy and Jacob live in two very different worlds, there was one person who’s tied them together.

John Kirby was a talented award-winning lyricist who worked with many musicians throughout his long career. Born with a heart defect, he made the most of his time, but in the end, left behind two very different men to process their loss. Kirby’s one wish was to bring Gypsy, the only man who owned his damaged heart, and Jacob together somehow—first, as a way to help each other mourn, but then as a new opportunity at love.

Can two grieving men find lasting love together and uncover the connection Kirby already knew existed between them? Dead men can’t talk, but their dreams can still come true—even from the beyond.

Gypsy Heart is a stand-alone rockstar romance with a slow burn, high emotions, grief/comfort, and an HEA.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Like every Ann Lister book, I immediately fell into Gypsy Heart and couldn't put it down. Everything about this story spoke to me.

Gypsy and Jacob's love story is as wonderful as the rest of Ann's couples, but their tale is definitely a little different. This is a tale of grief that follows rockstar Gypsy after he loses his partner, Kirby.

When Gypsy returns to the cabin he owned with Kirby, he meets Jacob, who had his own sort of relationship with Kirby. Things are definitely a little complex as far as how these three men are connected.

Gypsy. Oh how my heart hurt for Gypsy. He's surprised by Kirby's death and is left with regrets and doubts. He and Kirby were secretly a couple. But Gypsy never claimed him publicly, never made him a priority, and kept their relationship open.

Oh, the open relationship for these two was a complex thing. Kirby loved Gypsy with his whole heart, and didn't try to sleep with others. Instead, he loved Gypsy from afar and waited at home for him. Jacob, however, is one of the men Kirby did sleep with.

And oh man, Jacob. When we meet Jacob, we learned that he loved Kirby. He would have done anything to be Kirby's guy. But he knew Kirby's heart was taken.

And then Gypsy and Jacob meet. I love these men and their story.

Instead of jealousy and anger, these two bond over their mutual grief, and end up attracted to each other. It's a beautiful love story. Absolutely beautiful.

I appreciate the way the author brings these men together, as well as the strength of their love. Their love for Kirby is never belittled, but instead, Kirby is what helps bring them together.

And, oh dear god, just crush my heart now - the letter from Kirby! Tears. So many tears.

One thing you won't find in this story is the rocker scene. Yes, Gypsy's career and his bandmates are present, but this is not what this story is about. This is solely the story of Gypsy and Jacob's grief and their resulting love story.

Gypsy Heart is easily one of my favorite of Ann Lister's books. This book is oozing with heart and romance. The emotions are present throughout, as the men go from grieving, to bonding, to loving. I love every single moment of this story and can't wait to read it again.

Honestly, as big of a fan I am of Ann Lister, I am shocked to say so, but Ann easily outdid herself with this stunning tale.

Strung Tight (The Road To Rocktoberfest Book 1) by Ann Lister

- Bisexual Discovery
- First Love
- Rockstar / Roadie
- Stage fright / Anxiety
- Low Angst / HEA

What’s better than having your rock idol, Dagger Drummond be the mentor for your band? Having your band selected as one of the performing acts at the iconic music festival, Rocktoberfest.

My band was about to step onto our first professional stage. We’d more than earned our spot in the lineup. We had the talent and Dagger groomed our stage swagger. All that was left was to wow the socks off of the audience.

It should be easy, except I had major anxiety issues and it’s frowned upon when lead singers collapse on stage from panic attacks. Another detail adding to my anxiety level, I recently fell in love with a man. Imagine that, a straight guy falling for a dude. It’s the stuff stories are made of – and yet it’s my life.

Rocktoberfest was supposed to be fun but our trip turned sour when my guy went AWOL. Now my concentration is shot and my is heart heavy thinking his absence might have more to do with him not wanting to be with me than missing the bus. One way or another, I had to give the performance of my career – regardless of what was going on inside my head or my heart.

Strung Tight is the 1st book in the multi-author Road To Rocktoberfest series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but why not stay and enjoy the whole show? If you like scorching tales of hot rock stars and the men who love them, then you’ll adore the untamed musicians of Rocktoberfest!

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

If you like rocker romances, you are probably as excited about The Road to Rocktoberfest series as I am. The first book in this multi-author series is Strung Tight by Ann Lister.

I love Ann's Rock Gods series, and this one is a great addition to her rocker world. It has Dagger and Ryan. 'Nuf said!

Dallas and Fletch are a wonderful couple. I truly love their relationship, including their first meeting. The two just mesh well and are able to confide in one another in a sweet manner.

It took me a little while to care for Dallas, but when I did, I love the connection he has with Fletch. Poor Fletch and his anxiety of playing in front of large crowds is well illustrated, with the reader able to feel his pain.

In addition to Fletch's stage fright, there is angst with Dallas' issues with his father. I don't want to give anything away, but there is one intense moment of angst that had my heart hurting.

I love the author's writing style, with characters who fully come alive and a storyline that kept me riveted. I love the men and their journey. If you're a fan of Ann's writing, you will love this book. And of course she gifts us with some Dagger, ohhh...it's so much fun seeing Dagger and Ryan a lot. They made me absolutely giddy to spend time with them again.

We also get to meet plenty of new characters who I am excited to read more of in the future. Mike. I love Mike and can't wait for him to find love. I haven't looked ahead, but I assume we'll be seeing him and the others in the rest of the series.

Overall, Strung Tight is a fantastic start to The Road To Rocktoberfest series. And now I am excited to read the rest of this multi-author series.

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW - Ryder's Guardian (Maiden Voyage #1) by TL Travis & Ann Lister

Ryder's Guardian Banner

Release Blitz & Excerpt:
Ryder's Guardian by Ann Lister & TL Travis

Ryder's Guardian Cover front final

Maiden Voyage, Book 1

For Maiden Voyage guitarist, Ryder Hampton, life is great. He and his bandmates are embarking upon an epic European double headlining tour with their friends from Social Sinners with the band Embrace the Fear opening for them.

Since joining Maiden Voyage in his twenties, Ryder’s life has been a whirlwind of the cliched, “Sex, drugs and monumental doses of Rock ‘n Roll. And he’s loved every minute of it from the sold out shows to the revolving door of bed partners.

Max Hightower has always been a team player. Whether it was working with his team in the Marines or now with the private security company, Ventura Security. These days, his job was to have the backs of a band of musicians. One band member in particular he'd allowed to get too close and now emotions were involved.

Ryder Hampton had left his mark on Max's closed-off heart and now Max's job was in jeopardy. Falling for your principal wasn't safe – nor smart. Neither was missing the mark on protecting him and now Max was guilty of both. The security detail he'd begged his boss for had turned out to be the one that could ruin him and shatter his heart too. Max couldn't allow either option to happen.

Maiden Voyage series must be read in order as each book starts where the last one ended but is from another band members point of view:

1 – Ryder’s Guardian
2 – Derek’s Destiny
3 – Jaxson’s Nemesis
4 – Shadow’s Light

Oh, how I love Ryder's Guardian, the first book in the Maiden Voyage series by TL Travis and Ann Lister.

As an avid fan of both authors, who each excel in writing fabulous rock romances, I have been excited for this one since it was announced. And it is everything I was hoping it would be!

I love these guys and their large groups of friends, who are like family. From the very start, I felt like I was back with my own family. They are all fantastic characters who I have come to love over the years.

This book is the romance between Max and Ryder. Cue the boss/employee, rock god/bodyguard tropes. They are super sweet, funny, and cute as a couple. Their story is hot and romantic, as well as full of action and danger, as they have to deal with a stalker.

Of course, the forbidden aspect of their relationship adds to the fun with the secrets and sneaking around.

The writing style is fabulous, as this writing duo crafts multi-layered, interesting, and lovable characters. The storyline is riveting, leaving me up late into the night to finish in one sitting.

As I mentioned before, with the large group of friends, it is the continued involvement of past characters that make this book so special. These authors have managed to bring together several series, entwining them perfectly.

And then later, later they go and practically rip my heart out! Commence emotion overload. I am not mentioning specifics, but be warned.

As a fan of music myself, I love the following lines. "People liked songs that resonated within them...Everyone assimilates lyrics to events in their lives...We are drawn to songs, to lyrics that call out to us for one reason or another..."

Ryder's Guardian is an amazing addition to the resumes of TL Travis and Ann Lister. If you are a fan or rocker romances, this is a must read. I know I'll be adding it to my re-read list and anxiously anticipating the next book in the series.

I slid into the plush hotel robe and slippers. As soon as I opened the bedroom door, the wonderful aroma wafting from our food assaulted my senses, “That smells so damn good.” After removing the chrome dome shell that covered it, it instantly made the room smell even better. The plate was packed full and I for one was more than thankful for that. I plopped my tired ass down and dug in and couldn’t help the erotic noises escaping me. “This is better than any orgasm.”
“Then you’re doing it wrong,” Max said, his eyes were glued to my lips.
“Really? Do tell,” I leaned back in the chair, seductively licking the grease from my fingers while keeping my eyes trained on his, waiting for his insightful explanation. He was taking far too long to spit it out, so I decided to…test his comfort level. I slung my leg over the arm of the chair. The robe slid down, barely covering my junk and leaving my left thigh fully exposed. His eyes heated, even more, than they already were. Through the material I cupped my dick, slowly sliding my hand up it, “please, continue,” I urged him.
Max growled, standing up so abruptly that the chair went sailing backwards and before I could draw my next breath, he had me pinned where I sat. “Tease me again brat, and you won’t be able to sit for a week.”
“Promises, promises,” I tsked, poking the bear. Probably not the wisest of decisions but I wasn’t backing down from it. No way, no how. I’d take whatever the big guy dished out.
Up and over his shoulder I went, across the room in three long strides before my body landed on the bed, “Don’t move,” Max warned me, stripping the belt from around the bathrobe I was wearing. He secured my wrists tightly before flipping me over. The robe was now pushed up my back pooling just below my shoulder blades and putting my ass on full display, “I’ve dealt with spoiled brats before, immature as they were, they still knew not to push me. Now I find myself in a very precarious position with you and it seems I need to teach you a lesson, Ryder.”
Over my shoulder I stared as he rolled his sleeves up and sat down, pulling me across his lap. “Ryder, I need you to count with me. If you don’t keep an accurate and timely count, I’ll add another swat for every number you pause on. Understood?” When I didn’t respond his hand landed across my right ass cheek with a resounding slap filling the air.
        “Fuck!” I yelled.
“For having to repeat myself, the number has now gone from five to ten. Again I ask, do you understand me Ryder?”

Switching Octaves (The Rock Gods: East Coast Label Book 2) by Ann Lister

Blurb

Branson: I'm a guy who knows what he wants—whether it's a career goal or a man intriguing enough for me to give chase—once I have the prize in sight, I’m relentless in my pursuit.

This has worked well for me over the years, more specifically, as the bass player of my band, Hard Core. I hear a bass line in anything the guys throw at me, then take those jumbled run of notes and turn it into something our fans will want to buy.

I'm also a man who doesn't do messy or complicated, and I keep my emotions out of the game—until now. FDNY Lieutenant Sean Conley, one of New York's bravest, has ruined me for all others because I allowed myself to feel.

Conley: I’m dedicated to putting my own safety aside and saving lives on a daily basis. Just don't ask me to be part of a concert crowd or I'll inevitably have a massive panic attack.

Personal trauma pushed me into the closet and I was fine with this life—until rock star Branson Mink happened to cross my path at a fire scene. Worse yet, I think he knows what I'm hiding.

Branson's hardly the type to be anyone's secret. Every aspect of his life plays out under the spotlight, while I prefer to keep mine hidden behind that closet door.

I have always left parts of myself private, and now Branson has something to hide too. When our worst fears collide, I'm forced to put mine aside to save the man I love. Turns out, that was easy. The real challenge? Figuring out how to make this relationship work.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Ann Lister's Switching Octaves is fabulous! The second book in The Rock Gods: East Coast Label series, it's everything I love about a great rocker romance.

This story just soothes my soul. The men are complex, intriguing, and lovable. Their story is fantastic, taking them from getting to know each other, through the struggle of coming out, and ending in major life changes. There's an underlying angst throughout that is wonderfully done. It's extremely emotional, resulting in me staying up half the night until I finished it.

Banson's a rocker who falls hard for the closeted fireman Sean. Sean's intrigued by the rocker. He's trying, yet failing, to fight his attraction.

There's a lot to love about these men and their stories. As well, the band is fabulous and I love them all. Everyone is well developed, with well explored backgrounds. And damn, these two have some serious heat between them! Not only is the sex hot, it also includes some nice variety, stepping away from stereotypes.

And wow, the backstory of Sean is heart-breaking. I like the way things are slowly revealed, eventually coming out front and center. Dear lord, it's just impossible to imagine the pain he suffered.

This entire story is just a great example of what I love about this author. The writing style is exactly what I love, the characters complex, and their story line full of realistic issues and a whole lot of love. Of course, her rockers are always there for one another, leaving the reader with a great sense of them as a family unit. And in this book, we also get the full feeling of family from the firemen who work with Sean.

Then there's the last part of this book. The way the author fully captures the severity and the depth of emotions couldn't have been any better. I could feel every single second of heartache, as well as the fear of the unknown.

Basically, Switching Octaves is another spectacular read by Ann Lister! Just read it! Although the rocker aspect might draw you in, you'll be impressed with this one for everything else it includes.

Fall Again (The Rock Gods, #10) by Ann Lister

Blurb

Dagger Drummond and Ryan Pierce have been married for years. They've experienced firsthand what living under the lights at center stage can do to even the strongest relationships, but somehow they've managed to remain on solid ground – until now.

Ryan realizes he wants more from their marriage, but Dagger is too fearful to give it to him. A disconnect is forged, and suddenly the two who are known as being the heart and soul of the dual touring bands, Black Ice and Ivory Tower, are out of sync. Having the backbone of the band family at odds sends Dagger home to make amends.

Just as their pieces begin settle into place, tragedy strikes and nearly rips them apart for good. One of them is left fighting for his life and both are reaching for a future that may no longer be obtainable.

Fall Again is a full-length update story featuring the main characters from Fall For Me, Book One in the Rock Gods Series and comes with a hard-earned HEA.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Wow, Ann Lister's Fall Again, the tenth book in The Rock Gods series, is phenomenal! Omg, this one broke me. I am so excited that Ann is going back to some of the couples I've fallen in love with over the years.

Dagger and Ryan having problems. No! Initiate the tears! But, seriously, it's an extremely rare treat to get a story of an already established and highly loved couple facing some struggles. And man, this is so damn realistic, so it's wonderful to see this represented. So many marriages hit that little rut, and the author perfectly illustrates this without too much angst, which makes it even better.

Everyone makes an appearance. It's like coming home and visiting family. I love the guys from Ivory Tower and Black Ice. Getting to spend some more time with them is always a treat. I enjoy them as individuals, couples, and friends. Their ongoing support for one another is a beautiful thing.

Fall Again is absolutely amazing!  Thank you Ann for this delicious treat! Dear lord, if you've read the rest of the rock gods series, you will love this book. Read it. Read it now!

A Rhythm You Feel (The Rock Gods: East Coast Label #1) by Ann Lister

Blurb

Blade: As the lead singer of Hard Core, I’ve been taught several key life lessons. Unfortunately, I've also ignored many of them in the last twenty minutes alone, which is why I'm now being chased by a hoard of crazed fans.

But my worst misjudgment today? Going outside in public without security or a backup plan. Screaming fans come with the job and the fame is as much of a blessing as it is a curse, but I still couldn't imagine doing any other line of work.

Music owns me and I am happy to be her bitch.

Nico: I knew who he was as soon as he burst through the front door of my store and I was absolutely starstruck and speechless. Yes, me with my own hardened attitude and jaded outlook on life had lost the ability to talk in the presence of Blade.

I'm an ex-con. I paid my debt to society, and I have my own brand of scars to show from the time I spent behind bars. My life's regrets stain my soul as much as the ink of my tattoos color my skin. Solace for me came with ownership of a bookstore. It was a peaceful place to work until a certain rockstar blew in from the street like a Category 5 hurricane.

Hurricane Blade was about to make landfall and I wasn't sure I'd survive the storm.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

A Rhythm You Feel is the first book in a new series by Ann Lister, The Rock Gods: East Coast Label. And, omg, I am so freakin excited!

Immediately, this story has all that I love about Ann Lister's books. Reading one of her books is like coming home. Her rock world is fascinating, and the men loveable and charismatic. But, more than anything, it's her writing style that sucks me in every time. It's smooth, seamless, and riveting.

Blade's the lead singer of Hard Core. In a fun meet cute, he meets Nico as he's escaping a crowd of fans by running into Nico's bookstore.

Aww, Nico. His past is saddening, full of drugs and jail time. Meeting Blade, everything changes for the man. He meets the bands, Black Ice and Ivory Tower, which is extremely entertaining. He's in awe and fangirls as we all would. It's fun, sweet, and also sad, as he struggles with some of what he sees.

One of my favorite parts of the behind the scenes moments are the differences between the older bands and the newer ones. The lifestyle is tamed down for the Black Ice and Ivory Tower guys, while those new to the lifestyle still like to party hard. It's an interesting aspect that the author explores well.

Damn, Blade and Nico have intense chemistry and an even better emotional connection. I love them together. Nico's transformation from a man who works too much and doesn't get much enjoyment out of life, to a man who's happy and in love, is beautiful! To say that meeting Blade was a godsend would be an understatement. Not only does Nico find love, he also finds the joy in life that he was missing. And for Blade, in Nico's he's found someone worth spending his time with, someone who likes him for him and not his fame, and someone worth loving.

Their story is one of finding someone who makes you want to be a better person. It's about trying to mesh two opposing lifestyles to be with the one you love. And it's about the ongoing struggle with addiction.

I can't recommend A Rhythm You Feel enough. I love this book. And I can't wait for more of this series. Once again, Ann Lister had me delighted with every single word.
