My Irresistible Enemy (Rebel Hearts Book 3) by Spencer Spears

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Baking with the enemy shouldn’t feel so good…

Aiden: In my defense, I didn’t expect to be cast on a reality baking show when I started my cam boy account. I’m just crossing my fingers no one from A Piece of Cake discovers my salacious side hustle—but I never counted on fellow contestant Nolan McAllister…

Quiet, self-possessed, and infuriatingly attractive, Nolan would be perfect—if he weren’t also aloof, stuck-up, and judgmental. The worst part? He accidentally walked in on me filming a very compromising video for my fans, and now he holds my future in his hands.

But when Nolan and I find out we’re both about to get cut from the show, we have to work together to stay. My solution? We pretend to fall for each other. There’s nothing America loves more than a co-star romance.

The only problem is that the more time I spend with Nolan, the more I realize he’s not what he seems. And as things get steamy in the kitchen, it gets harder and harder to keep my hands—and other body parts—off of him.

Fake dating my biggest rival wasn’t supposed to involve real feelings, but I’m starting to realize the real prize might not be fame or money—it might just be Nolan’s heart.

My Irresistible Enemy is Book 3 in the Rebel Hearts series set in steamy southern Georgia. Each book is snarky, swoony, and full of heat. They can be read on their own, but are even more fun together. My Irresistible Enemy is a 100,000 word m/m romance with a cheeky cam boy, a guarded chef, a TV baking show, and fake dating and enemies to lovers themes. HEA guaranteed.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Irresistible Enemy is the third book in the Rebel Hearts series. This Spencer Spears book can easily be read as a standalone, although reading the previous books will add to the fun.

Damn! Once again, Spencer left me in awe of one of his books. This one started off slow-ish to me, and took me a while to fully appreciate the characters. But, damn, Aiden and Nolan are amazingly complex and their story is so wonderfully multi-layered.

Basically, there is way more to each man than appears to the eye. Or to the public eye, as they're on a baking competition reality show.

Aidan's lack of self esteem is heartbreaking. I just wanted to hug the man and tell him that yes, he is indeed worthy.

And then there's Nolan. He's super serious and cautious, but he certainly has good reasons. He's trying to win money to help his sick mother, but doesn't want anyone to know about her issues. And after learning about his past, I am impressed by what a forgiving, wonderful son he is.
As for the thing that leaves him cautious, well damn, that just made me so mad. Poor man.

One of my favorite aspects is when Nolan learns to trust and let loose with Aidan. It isn't easy for him, but god, I love when he truly gets there.

There's a lot going on in the story, with plenty of twists and turns. Nothing was a surprise to me, as I was assuming the correct things early on, but that didn't distract me from enjoying it.

This is a story with a baker who doesn't know how to bake, a fake relationship that slowly turns real, a cam boy and his stalker, and more.

Their storyline is riveting, with a fabulous ending. I love this story. By the end, I was left in love with these men and all they went through.

Irresistible Enemy is another remarkable romance by Spencer Spears. This is one of those books you will stay up late into the night reading. I love Summersea and all the wonderful people in this town.

Down By Contact (Wilmington Breakers #1) by Quinn Ward

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Nothing could derail his season like being forced to spend time with the only man he’d allowed close enough to hurt him...

Zach couldn't step out of the closet if he wanted to play professional football. Griffin refused to stay locked in the dark. As much as it hurt, Zach knew Griffin had done the best thing for both of them when he walked away.

Now Zach will do anything to prove his rookie season wasn't a fluke. The last thing he wants is to be part of a reality TV show. He doesn't need the distraction of cameras tailing him through training camp but he's determined to be a team player.

Distraction becomes an understatement when the camera man assigned to him is none other than his ex. For the next six weeks, the two of them will spend nearly every waking minute together.

Working on Outside the Pocket wasn't where Griffin imagined his career heading but he knows he needs to put in the time before landing the jobs he's dreamed of. Little does he realize his new boss is counting on a heavy dose of sexual tension and unresolved pain to keep the series alive.

Will Griffin be able to convince Zach the chemistry between them is real and not a ratings ploy?

Down by Contact is the first book in the Wilmington Breakers series, previously available under the pen name Sloan Johnson.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Down By Contact is a wonderful sports romance by Quinn Ward. No surprise that  I love this book! As a sports romance whore, I loved this book when it was first released. I'm thrilled it's now being re-released by Quinn Ward.

If you like football romances, look no further. This has everything I could ask for. Sports. Closeted players. And all the angst of if, when, and how to ever come out.

The first book in the Wilmington Breakers series, this is a spin off of Quinn's Homerun series, with Nate as the connecting character.

Zach, Nate's twin, is a closeted football player. In this read he gets a second chance with Griffin. They're reunited via a reality show that follows Zach's team. And yes, Griffin is one of the men working on the show.

I enjoy the way everything develops between these two. The feelings are real, yet so is the angst. These two definitely are great together, but they first have to overcome some major obstacles in their way.

Down By Contact is a fantastic sports romance. Quinn Ward delivers all the feels in this closeted world of sports. A subject I can't get enough of, I love it all.

Forbidden Ink (Get Ink'd #6) by Ali Lyda

I’m not a deadbeat.
I didn’t know my kid existed before Milo showed up, but now that I do, I’m determined to keep my beautiful little Sofie in my life. Even if it means I need to spend time around her irritable uncle, Milo. The man pushes all of my buttons.

He riles me up until I can’t think of anything except kissing him. Definitely not the reaction he expects. He’s not out, but I’m not the type to hide. Is there any way to make it work for our new family?

Family means everything.
Eryk’s a cocky playboy. He’s not good enough to be my niece’s father, but unfortunately, DNA says otherwise. Father or not, I’m not about to walk out of little Sofie’s life.

Which means I have to walk into Eryk’s even though I can’t stand him. So why is he so hard to resist? I decided on a closeted life a long time ago. It’s the only way to stay safe and successful. Could I bring myself to step out of the closet if it means having the true love of a family?

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Forbidden Ink is the sixth book in the Get Ink'd series by Ali Lyda. It perfectly continues this fantastic series, but it's easily read as a standalone.

There's a lot going on in this enemies to lovers story.

Milo and Eryk meet in an unusual way, as Milo has to bring his niece, Sofie, to meet her father, Eryk. To say that Milo hates Eryk for his reputation is an understatement.

The enemies to lovers element definitely drives this story, as the two have so much animosity between them. Milo's jealous that Eryk is out and proud. Milo doesn't think Eryk's fit to be a father. And more.

There's custody issues, as well as attraction issues. And I love how it all develops. I adore seeing the small ways things start to change, and the ability to put the child first.

Milo and Eryk are an interesting couple. Milo wasn't quite father material himself, but both men learn to put the child first. The chemistry between the men is too strong to ignore, and the men are certainly hot together.

Of course, there's the elephant in the room that some readers won't be able to ignore. Cause yes, Milo is interested in the man who fathered his sister, Maya's baby. I know a lot of people who don't like someone sleeping with their sibling's ex. But, honestly, I barely felt that issue in this book. Eryk's night with her was just that. One hookup that meant nothing to him. They were never a couple. No feelings were ever involved.

I do struggle with Milo's sister's decision to not tell Eryk that he's a father until she's on her deathbed. That is just something that always pisses me off. But, as this story isn't really about her, I can let that go.

There's a large issue when it comes to Milo's feelings about Eryk's sexuality. His insecurities and jealousy over Eryk living openly while Milo is closeted and hiding is felt throughout. Milo's frustration and anger are well illustrated and this is a large part of his character. I appreciate where he's coming from and ultimately love the way it's all resolved.

Forbidden Ink is a wonderful romance. Ali Lyda puts a lot of interesting issues into this story and I love it. Hell, I love anytime an actor feels forced into being closeted. Those are stories that just seem so realistic, so I definitely love that aspect. And the rest is just gravy on top!

Messy Ink (Get Ink'd #2) by Ali Lyda

Dane

Chris is a great doctor, but he can’t heal me…

I learned to look out for myself on the streets and in juvie. I’ve cleaned up my act, but it doesn’t mean that I’m about to start trusting a guy to stick around. Especially not a clean cut doctor like Chris. No wonder I ended things between us the first time around.

I’m sure it’s for the best. A guy like me can’t have a guy like Chris, no matter how much I want him. I’ve done too many bad things, and now karma is coming back to bite me. But every time my path crosses with Chris, I can’t help but wonder what might have been.

Chris

Is Dane too broken to try again with me?

I knew Dane was a player when we hooked up the first time, and I thought I didn’t want strings. But the smoking hot tattoo artist makes me want to break the rules and try something new. His past is full of pain, and I’ve got commitment issues of my own. It’s no wonder we didn’t last.

Dane has hidden depths, and my heart still beats like crazy every time I get close to him. If I let him get too close he could hurt me all over again - but maybe I’m ready to take a risk. Can we overcome the odds and make things work?

Messy Ink is a 70k m/m romance that gives you steamy second chances, a bad boy tattoo artist learning he’s worthy of love, the doctor who’s ready to mend his heart, and tons of gorgeous ink all wrapped up and ready for reality TV.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Wow, just wow! Messy Ink is an amazing book by Ali Lyda. The second book in the Get Ink'd series, it is fabulous.

Chris and Dane are fascinating characters who grabbed my attention from the start. Good god, I love them. Dane has walls around his heart like Fort Knox. He won't risk getting his heart hurt again, leaving him unwilling to let anyone in at all.

This is a tale of living a life of shame. Dane's past is heartbreaking and will leave you loving him just a little bit more.

Their story includes a sick mother, money problems, a reality show, and a sexually aggressive producer. And of course, their journey includes many appearances by the rest of the Get Ink'd crew.

Messy Ink is a fantastic emotional read. This Ali Lyda book is a worthwhile hurt/comfort read that contains a hard fought journey towards love. And I love it all!!!

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

His Horizon is a wonderful book by Con Riley. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the storyline.

Rob and Jude are two cooks who were once competitors, yet are now business partners. Upon being reunited, they are also exploring their continued attraction to one another.

Jude's story is depressing from the start. He's back home to help his sister, having given up hope of finding his parents alive. What he finds is a struggling business and an awkward situation with Rob being in town.

Jude and Rob have a past that consists of one kiss. But the attraction is there and their connection is strong. Their slow burn romance is full of tension, need, and want. There's heat, a sprinkling of humor, and plenty of emotion.

The whole story revolves around Jude's parents being lost at sea. It's heartbreaking throughout, including Jude's issues with being closeted and having never come out to his parents. In general, Jude is weighed down by guilt, grief, and a whole lot of frustration. He's living with expectations, fears, and confusion.

The characters fully come to life in this British romance. It's a beautiful story of regrets, secrets, and acceptance. There's a family secret that comes to light, as well as some good twists and turns. In addition, there's a good mystery.

There's a whole lot to love about this tender, heart-felt read. The writing is beautiful, although definitely more descriptive than I normally prefer. The author excels in writing with a poetic feel, yet never overwhelming me. Written in alternating 3rd person pov, the reader is able to fully understand each man and their emotions.

His Horizon is wonderful in the end. I adore this heart warming second chance romance. I am excited for more in this Con Riley series.

It was beyond dark in the boatyard, clouds covering the moon leaving the way deeply shadowed. Rob held out his phone, flashlight app a white beam that sliced through the darkness, his other hand in Jude’s, fingers laced as they walked in silence to the boatshed. It lit the ceiling when he placed it at the head of the bed, the portholes dark circles above them. He stayed quiet until Jude lay flat on his bunk. “One thing,” he then said, after kneeling over him. “Just to check.” Rob dipped down for a kiss, lips barely touching Jude’s before he pulled back a scant inch. “You didn’t help yourself to a finger or two of cognac from the bar before coming to find me, did you?” His knees were so close to the edge of Jude’s bunk that he slipped after straddling him.
Jude grabbed him with one hand on each of his hips, raising his knees to keep Rob steady. Once he was, Jude slid both hands under Rob’s T-shirt, hands travelling up and around to appreciate where his back broadened. “You think I’d need to be drunk to want this? Why?”
Rob’s gaze skittered away.
It wasn’t easy to switch position. “Jesus, you’re a lump.” Jude pushed up while twisting, rolling them over so Rob was beneath him. “Why, Rob? You really think my judgement needs to be impaired to want you?”
“No… I… well, yes.” Rob’s hands skimmed Jude’s hips, his waist, the curve of pectorals that were more pronounced after a year’s sailing. “To be fair, I have had months of Lou telling me about how you never do this.”
“This?”
“It’s nothing.” Rob’s touch was distracting, but Jude stayed on topic.
“Tell me. What did Lou say I never do?”
Even in the dim light, Rob’s mask slipping again was visible. “Let people get close.” He squirmed, awkward before adding, “Besides, have you seen you?” He pushed Jude’s shirt higher. “Some people might say I’m punching a teensy bit above my weight.” He glanced down at that last word to where Jude had one hand on his belly. Rob’s skin was soft and giving. “Too many second breakfasts.”
“You’re gorgeous,” Jude said, and he meant it. Had done from their first meeting. “Annoying, but gorgeous.”
Rob pulled him closer and Jude sank into it, lying instead of kneeling, kissing instead of thinking about what might come tomorrow. With his eyes closed, and Rob’s arms around him, Jude was back in London, after the contest semi-finals, only this time—now—he wasn’t about to stop at kissing. No, if he’d learned anything this year, it was to take as much as he could, because tomorrow could get washed away without any warning.

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW - Baking Battles (Scandinavian Comfort #3) by Sophia Soames

RELEASE BLITZ

Book Title: Baking Battles (Scandinavian Comfort 3)

Author: Sophia Soames

Publisher: Self-published

Cover Artist: Christina Stern

Release Date: June 15, 2020

Genre/s: Contemporary M/M Romance

Trope/s: Bisexual awakening, Single Dad

Themes: Coming out, Parenting, Reality Baking show, Family.

Heat Rating: 4 flames

Length: 82 500 words

It is a standalone story in the Scandinavian Comfort series.

Scandinavian Comfort is a series of standalone novels set in Scandinavia, sharing the common theme of Hygge. Hygge is a Danish word that is impossible to translate into a single English word. It's a concept of finding happiness in the small things, of towing the middle line instead of always aiming for the top and finding joy in your home and sharing time with your family. In Scandinavia you will find that especially Friday evenings are often seen as Hygge time, where families eat favourite foods, light candles and watch a movie, preferably whilst wearing slippers and pyjamas. Another Scandinavian word that is very fitting to this series is the Swedish word Lagom, meaning 'not too little, not too much’. Just right. This sums up the Scandinavian people in a nutshell.

Live your life well. Not too little, not too much.

Are you brave enough to stay? Or strong enough to walk away?

Mattias Strømme's life is a recipe for disaster. He is a single dad of a 2-year-old, has an ex-wife who scares him, and a job in finance where he scares everyone else. And now he has been dragged in as a last-minute filler contestant on Baking Battles, the hit reality baking show. Mattias can't bake. He can barely dress himself in the morning, and he definitely hasn't got the skills to charm the viewing public, or the wannabe celebs who make up the rest of the show's contestants. He's not a nice person. He's just... nothing. Mattias left his wife when life became unbearable for him and he fell apart. Now, when he is suddenly drowning in a mess of rumours, male supermodels, and unicorn glitter? Will Mattias be brave enough to stay? Or strong enough to walk away?

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Baking Battles, the third book in the Scandinavian Comfort series is another amazingly beautiful book by Sophia Soames.

This is a story that centers around a baking reality show. Mattias is forced to join the show and ends up finding love.

Mattias and Christopher are an interesting couple. They meet when Christopher hosts the show. Christopher's been crushing on Mattias for a while, and lucky for him, Mattias offers him his couch to crash on. Christopher's a model, he's friends with Mattias' friend and he's as patient as can be with Mattias. He is truly a lovable man.

Matt's sexuality is a big factor is their journey. Probably pansexual, he's never been with a man before, but can't resist being with Christopher. He's divorced and helping to raise his toddler. His sex life, or lack thereof previously is well explored and written in a stellar manner.

The best thing about these two is how natural their connection is and how easily it grows. Their journey starts off organically and grows as Mattias learns about himself.

The author's writing style is certainly unique. Sophia Soames has a distinct voice and a recognizable storytelling style. It is not my usually preference, but she excels each time with grabbing my heart and taking me on a memorable journey. Let's just say that each time I finish one of her stories, the book hangover is real!

Baking Battles is a story of family and the many forms it can take. This Sophia Soames read is a tender and loving tale that would make for a superb movie.

“Mattias, I’m in fucking deep shit, mate.” Danijel grits out between his teeth as the glass door to his own office slams shut behind them. He’s a small man, slim with some muscle definition showing under his fitted shirt, which is usually immaculate, but today there are patches of sweat forming under his arms, and his closely shaved black hair is getting frequent swipes from Danijel’s hands, a clear sign that something is bothering him.

“What now? I thought everything was going smoothly? Baking Battles is still well under budget, so financially there is nothing to worry about, unless there is a lawsuit brewing that you are about to hit me with.”

Mattias crosses his arms over his chest. He may have spent years taking shit from Sara, but he’s never been a pushover at work. He knows his shit. So does Danijel.

“Please tell me that you can bake.” Danijel almost whispers. “You brought that chocolate tray thing in a few months back when we had the Hygge-Fridays thing going on? Please tell me it didn’t come out of a packet?”

“It didn’t come out of a packet. Who do you think I am? I’m the master of the chocolate tray bake.” Mattias says cockily. Danijel is clearly in some deep shit. Sweat now pouring down his temples.

He should probably mention that Emilia had drooled in the batter and that the traybake he had brought in was his third attempt, and that the mess he had left behind in the kitchen, sparked off one of the worst screaming arguments he and Sara had ever had. He left a week later. It hadn’t been good. That damn cake brought nothing good with it.

“Mattias, we start filming tomorrow at ten, and we are three contestants down. I am officially pulling you in.”

“What?” Mattias shrieks. “It’s a celebrity special. Who the fuck am I supposed to be?”

“You do that finance segment every year on ‘Good Morning Norway’? You know the ’How to do your tax return?’ thing you did? And... and… You did that thing last week, you know when you talked about how to budget for Christmas without getting into debt? You definitely qualify as a celeb. We will just call you a Morning TV financial expert. Close enough. And anyway, everyone loves a bigwig trying his hand at being normal or some shit? Putting your money where your mouth is, or whatever? Getting down with the underdog? Showing your human side? I haven’t got a clue how we will spin it. That’s PR’s role. They will make it work, if you do this. And, Mattias, you are perfect. You are grumpy and impatient and have a fucking temper on you. It will make fantastic TV. The other good thing is that you won’t have a clue who all the other contestants are, so you won’t give a rat’s arse about pegging them down a notch or two, will you? It will be awesome.”

Danijel is chewing on his thumb. Rocking on his heels.

“No. Fucking. Way.” Mattias groans. “Hell no.”

“Why the hell not? You are single, and the girls will be hanging off you. Celeb status guaranteed. Pussy on tap. What’s not to love?”

“Everything Danijel! Every fucking thing! For a start, I can’t bake.”

“That Chocolate tray bake was edible?” Danijel is smiling now.

“I look like shit.”

“You are a handsome devil. Let someone dress you and get a haircut. Shave. Sorted.”

“I’ve got a reputation to protect. I’ll be the fucking laughingstock of the station!”

“People will love you. Profits through the roof. Spin-off series. I have a clear vision in my head.”

Yeah. Danijel is on drugs. Clearly. Standing there with his arms spread out and a dreamy look in his eyes.

“No, Danijel. Not happening. Baking Battles is this station’s number one show, our main cash cow, and we have been seeding this Celebrity special for months. We can’t just throw random contestants in and expect to pull it off. The public will see right through it. It’s desperate, and it’s unprofessional.” Mattias turns around letting his hand rest on the door handle. He is leaving. He is not getting drawn into this.

“Alima said yes.” Danijel says. His shit-eating grin wider than his face.

“Alima?” Mattias’s hand grips the door handle tighter. “Your sister can’t even peel a potato. She feeds her kids microwave meals and thinks it’s gourmet cooking. She’s going on Baking Battles as a contestant? You are kidding, right?”

Danijel’s pushing it here. Alima is his oldest friend. Well, the only friend that has stuck by him throughout his whole divorce mess. She lives life like she is some kind of hardcore Superwoman, and Mattias bloody adores her. She’s also married with a million kids and works full time, and has never baked a cake in her life. He knows that, for a fact.

“Dead serious, Mattias. She owes me one, and anyway someone has to get voted off in the first episode. She doesn’t give a shit, and we are marketing her as the Norwegian ice-hockey team’s physician, which isn’t a lie.”

“She treated their reserve goalie for a sprained ankle. Once.” Mattias whines into his hands. “Danijel, what the hell are you doing? This is crazy?”

“I have no choice Mattias. Amelia Hammerdahl had to pull out with the cocaine scandal that broke on Friday. Trond Pedersen is up for a fucking embezzling charge, and that rapper we were pinning our hopes on? Pregnant. Couldn’t stop puking through the test filming yesterday. We can’t use her, it is just awful. “Danijel actually looks a bit green himself. “So, we are down to Pablo from ‘Say Yay to the Gay’, Ida Sagnefjord from ‘Frognerfruer’, Paulina Sætermark, the news anchor from ‘Dagsrevyen’…”

“And not Mattias Strømme, a boring CFO,” Mattias says firmly. “Forget it, Danijel. It’s stupid, immoral and downright illegal. We are deceiving the public, lying and betraying the trust of the brand. Get yourself on the phone to casting downstairs. I am sure we have some D-list celeb just dying to make a spectacle of themselves on TV over Christmas.”

He walks out the door letting it slam hard behind him. Fucking hell, Danijel.

Mattias’s life is peaceful and quiet, his job rewarding and fulfilling. His daughter is the love of his life.

He doesn’t need this.

It’s eight weeks until Christmas. Four weeks until “Baking Battles, The Celebrity Christmas Special” will premiere in time for the December festive period. Eight mouth-watering spectacular episodes full of Christmas cheer, home-made flavours and quirky heart-warming mistakes by clueless celebrities, showing their human side. Christmas cakes. Fucking gingerbread houses. And fruitcakes… not just of the baked variety.

He’s not going anywhere near it. Nope. Not happening.

Sophia Soames should be old enough to know better but has barely grown up. She has been known to fangirl over TV-shows, has fallen in and out of love with more popstars than she dares to remember, and has a ridiculously high-flying (un-)glamourous real-life job.

Her long-suffering husband just laughs at her antics. Their children are feral. The Au Pair just sighs.

She lives in a creaky old house in rural London, although her heart is still in Scandinavia.

Discovering that the stories in her head make sense when written down has been part of the most hilarious midlife crisis ever and she hopes it may long continue.

My Rating - 5+ Stars!

Say You'll Be Nine is an amazing book. I love every single second of this sweet Lucy Lennox GFY story.

The author packs a whole lot into this tale. It's a great combination of brother's best friend, forced proximity, a reality show, and a sexual awakening.

Cooper and Nine are adorable and fun together. I love them both immediately. They clearly complement one another and the flirting is fabulous. As for their chemistry, let's just say they have it in spades. The fact that they go from frenemies to lovers, as the lines begin to blur, just adds to the fun.

The reality show is aspect is so damn realistic, and I totally wish these men were real. I would absolutely be a following them and gushing over their relationship.

The conflict fits in perfectly, naturally adding to the tale, without ever feeling forced. I enjoy every single moment of it.

As always, the author's writing is superb, adding plenty of humor to this adorable tale. The character development is flawless and the storyline is riveting. Lucy has once again created a couple and a storyline that I found myself living along with the characters. I was personally invested in them as a couple, as well as individually, and couldn't put this book down.

As for the overall theme, I don't want to give anything away, but it's wonderful. And Lucy handles it perfectly.

Say You'll Be Nine may just be my new favorite Lucy Lennox book. And that's saying a lot, of course. It is a beautiful story that is a must read. I can't wait to re-read this gem.

Thinking about Cooper though… well, that did something to me. It made me annoyed, mostly, but for some reason that annoyance made itself known through what I’d begun to think of as “angry dick.” Yes, thoughts of arguing with Cooper made me hard. And since I was fixing to spend the entire summer sleeping near, fighting with, and pretending to kiss and hug the man, this was going to be a problem.

“Keep it together,” I grumbled under my breath. Nacho’s ears perked up in the rearview mirror. “Oh, not you, baby. You’re fine. Go back to sleep. Daddy’s just having a sexuality crisis, no big.”

I remembered one time when Cooper was staying over during a spring break, I’d come home late from helping a neighbor fix his tractor shed and run right into Cooper pouring himself a glass of ice water in the darkened kitchen. He’d been standing there in nothing but navy-striped boxer briefs, and I’d stared at him like he was some kind of alien.

“Nine,” he’d said slowly. “Didn’t know you were out this late.”

I’d glanced my fill of his entire body, curious more than anything about what another man outside my family looked like without his clothes on. Since I’d helped my dad on the farm and worked at Walt’s, I hadn’t played school sports and had the locker room experience like some others had.

I remembered the air getting weird between us and his underwear getting bulgier as we stood there. Had it been possible he was getting hard for me? I’d known he was gay, but this was something else.

“Uh, yeah,” I’d croaked. “Was working at the farm next door. Sorry.” I’d scooted past him and raced for my room, kicking myself for apologizing for being in my own damned kitchen. After that, every time I’d seen Cooper I hadn’t been able to help but look at his fly to see if he was getting hard for me again. It had been this inappropriate addiction I’d had that had pissed me the hell off and started the odd discord between us. Was it ego? Did I really care if some gay guy found me attractive?

So yeah. I was sweating buckets and probably going to puke and faint at the same time the minute I saw him at the renovation cabin. Super-duper.

When I finally pulled off the deserted mountain highway and onto the road where the property was located, I finally pulled over and upchucked into the weeds at the side of the forest. Nothing like christening a new place with a little vomit.

Nacho whimpered and whined from the half-open window, so I waved my hand at him to let him know I was still alive. I used some napkins from the side pocket to wipe my mouth and then swished with water from my water bottle. Finally, I popped in some mint gum from the console and tried to take a deep breath. At least now I wasn’t going to puke when I saw Cooper.

About Lucy:

After enjoying creative writing as a child, Lucy didn’t write her first novel until she was over 40 years old. Her debut novel, Borrowing Blue, was published in the autumn of 2016. Lucy has an English Literature degree from Vanderbilt University, but that doesn’t hold a candle to the years and years of staying up all night reading tantalizing novels on her own. She has three children, plays tennis, and hates folding laundry. While her husband is no shmoopy romance hero, he is very good at math, cooks a mean lasagne, has gorgeous eyes, looks hot in his business clothes, and makes her laugh every single day.

Lucy hopes you enjoy sexy heroes as much as she does. Happy reading!
