The Other Brother by Jax Calder

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

What happens when you fall for the one person you can't have?

Ryan has had seventeen years of being compared to Cody, part of his toxic fractured family, so you’ll forgive him for some epic eye-rolling when it comes to Mr Perfect. Although not related to him by blood, Cody has always been annoying background noise in Ryan’s life. It doesn’t help that Cody’s a high achieving musician, while Ryan’s life ambition doesn’t extend past catching the next wave.

One summer changes everything. It’s the summer when circumstances collide, and Cody and Ryan end up spending time together at Cody’s family’s beach house. It’s the summer Ryan teaches Cody to surf and Cody teaches Ryan to play guitar. It’s the summer when they become friends.

And then more than friends.

But when summer ends, Cody and Ryan are forced back to reality, where they must hide their relationship from their warring family members. And as tragedy strikes and family secrets buried deep in the past worm their way to the surface, their relationship is threatened. Can their feelings, which began in the summer sun, survive the winter ahead?

My Rating - 5 Stars!

The Other Brother is a fabulous romance by Jax Calder. I love every single moment of this friends to lovers book.

This book is truly awesome. The set-up is great, as Cody and Ryan aren't related, but they share the same half sisters, as Ryan's mother and Cody's father used to be married. But they aren't related, even if it means things are a little bit awkward.

I love that the two young men grew up barely seeing one another, until they are together at college. It perfectly sets up a situation that seems completely realistic and intriguing. There's also a history between the two and their sisters that cause a lot of animosity and doubts.

The friendship that the two develop is wonderful. It develops naturally and the bond is easily established. I was definitely rooting for these two throughout.

This is a story with some beach scenes, surfing, and a slow burn. It's a story between complete opposites who have a complicated history and a shared proximity.

Adding to the storyline is the extreme tension between the ex spouses and their families. Everyone knows the exes can't be in the same room together, but it isn't known why until the end. And I appreciate the way this all is revealed.

The writing is well done, with the author's writing style immediately pulling me into the storyline. The characters are well developed and the pace is perfect. I am quickly falling in love with this author's writing.

The Other Brother is a riveting new adult romance. I highly recommend this story for the next time you're in the mood for a sweet college romance. I couldn't read this one fast enough and am definitely adding it to my re-read list.

In Too Deep (A Texas Beach Town Romance, #1) by Daryl Banner

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

The plan: hit up the beach with my best friend, get one of those fruity drinks with an umbrella in it, and read my book on the sand with the waves crashing at my feet and the sunshine beaming over me.

Not part of the plan: being distracted by all of the gorgeous single men who apparently inhabit this Texas beachside getaway.

Definitely not part of the plan: falling for one of them.

IN TOO DEEP is the first book in a beach-themed spin-off series from the Spruce Texas romances.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

In Too Deep is the first book in A Texas Beach Town series by Daryl Banner.

Jonah meets Kent while on vacation, with a whirlwind romance following.

Kent's a local who knows not to fall for a tourist, but can't resist Jonah.

I enjoy the way the two men meet and fall into their relationship. They have a lot in common, as both are kind of stuck in a rut, with something unexpected just what they need.

The connection and chemistry between the two is fabulous. The emotions jump off the pages, with everything developing between the couple felt by the reader.

Of course, Jonah went on the vacation with his best friend Rico. And let's just say, that he's a judgmental pain in the ass, and their friendship is tested.

This is a story that addresses that people can enjoy different kinds of fun. I totally appreciate this concept, as it's all too true.

In Too Deep is a nice beach town read. Daryl Banner always adds a special touch to his books, and this one is no exception. The setting fully comes to life and the characters are special. I enjoy it all.

MF - The Art of Falling in Love by Haleigh Wenger

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Seventeen-year-old Claire Haynes always spends summer vacation at her family's beach house in Florida, sketching and dreaming of art school with her biggest fan--her Opa. But when Opa dies right before summer break, all Claire has left besides her memories is a sand-sculpting contest application with her name on it and the lingering question of why Opa filled it out in the first place. Claire has never even made a decent sandcastle, but she reluctantly turns in the entry forms, hoping the contest will help her navigate the grieving process by honoring one of Opa's last wishes.

When she meets Foster, a teenage boy with a talent for turning recyclables into abstract sculptures, the two join forces to win the contest and salvage the Summer of Art. They spend the humid summer days shoveling sand, devouring ice cream, and exploring Florida's art scene. Just like Opa, Foster understands Claire and her overwhelming need to create, but he has a secret that threatens to ruin everything: he's homeless and hiding from an abusive brother who would have him believe family trumps all.

When Claire's parents find out about Foster's homelessness, they offer him a home along with their hearts. But even picture-perfect families like Claire's can harbor an ugly side, especially in the aftermath of Opa's death. When someone close to Claire spills Foster's secret, they're both forced to choose between love and familial obligation. If Claire can't break through long-held beliefs and prove family is more than shared DNA, she could permanently lose Foster and a chance at the sand contest to honor Opa.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

The Art of Falling in Love is a nice young adult romance. This Haleigh Wenger is a beautiful coming of age tale.

Claire and Foster's story is a great one, as these two are dealing with a lot of issues. These two are total opposites, who bond over their connection and their love of art.

Claire feels the pressure of her newly deceased grandfather's expectations, but is struggling to find her muse.

I enjoy all the talk about art. Foster is definitely a fabulous character, who's a true artist with an artist's soul.

There are some serious situations involved. Foster's revelation didn't surprise me, but it definitely affected me.

The Art of Falling in Love is one of those easy to fall into books. Everything about this Haleigh Wenger book kept me turning the pages. This is a great choice the next time you're in the mood for an emotional and poignant young adult romance.

More to Life by Annabella Michaels

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Shaw Kelley has worked tirelessly his entire life, putting himself through college and quickly climbing the ladder within the company where he works. Of course, all the late nights and weekends he spent at the office had their price, which he paid dearly. He no longer has any friends or social life to speak of, but none of that matters when he’s finally given the chance for an executive promotion, one that will grant him the financial security he so desperately craves.

Kieron Parsons loves his life. He’s got a great family, friends he can count on, and a job that he enjoys. He works hard, but he also knows how to have fun, and for Kieron, there’s nothing more fun than teasing the sexy, surly man that comes into the deli every day for lunch. In fact, making the man blush has become the one thing he looks forward to most. He would love the chance to crack that hard exterior and see if there’s any sweetness inside.

When Shaw’s boss invites him to attend an exclusive company vacation for executives only, he is thrilled. That is, until his boss tells him how important it is to have a balanced work and personal life then asks who his guest will be. Worried that not having anyone might cost him the promotion, Shaw makes up a lie, using the only person he can think of, the outrageous guy who’s always flirting with him at the deli.

Thankfully, Kieron agrees to Shaw’s plan, posing as the uptight man’s boyfriend, but how are they supposed to convince everyone that they’re a couple when they barely know each other? Will Shaw’s rigid nature end up exposing their lie or will Kieron finally be able to convince him that there’s more to life than just work?

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

More To Life is a wonderful romance by Annabella Michaels. It's as sweet as can be and includes a whole lot of character growth.

Shaw needs a fake boyfriend for a beach business trip. Enter Kiernan, a stranger who loves to flirt with the businessman.

Kiernan's may be a big flirt but he's nothing like Shaw expects. Seriously, I adore Kiernan. He's seriously a hoot, but there's so much beneath that layer.

It's great the way these two strangers slowly get to know one another, and ultimately fall in love.

I love how Kiernan makes Shaw a better person. Shaw was nothing but business until Kiernan's able to show him that there's more to life than work.

The ultimate theme is that not everyone is what you think they are. Opening up and showing someone the real you takes a lot of trust. But it can be well worth it. People have depth and can be way more than what they show the world.

More to Life is a fabulous heartwarming, comfort read. I love everything about this Annabella Michaels romance. If you can overlook the way Shaw is so damn gruff at first, you will love this story.

Out and proud Cody fascinates Liam—and tempts him to break all the rules.

Cody is practically half Liam's size and age, but has the confidence and compassion to take charge and give Liam the release, affection, and acceptance he desperately craves. But how long can a secret affair satisfy their hearts? As if saving lives isn’t hard enough, Cody faces his greatest challenge yet convincing Liam to trust him and find the courage to live out loud.

Flash Rip is an M/M gay romance from Keira Andrews featuring a slow burn, an age gap, scorching first times, and of course a happy ending.

Review

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Flash Rip is another great read by Keira Andrews.

Cody and Liam are two lifeguards in Western Australia. Yes, an Australia setting! Taking place in Perth, I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere.

As for Cody and Liam, one's a former Aussie Rules Football player. The other is from Canada, thus doesn't know anything about Aussie Rules and certainly doesn't recognize the famous man.

Liam's a former professional athlete who's firmly locked in the closet. Not only is he concerned about his fans, he also can't come out, as his family is very homophobic. Be warned for some disgusting insults.

Liam's never been with a man at home before, but soon he can't ignore the chemistry between himself and Cody. They are super hot together, and extremely compatible sexually. And, yes, their kinks include some bondage. Enjoy.

And holy crap, their banter is fantastic. There's some remarks that had me dying. "You always have a way with words." That sums it up perfectly. Just sit back and enjoy the humor.

For anyone who's ever seen a lifeguard rescue at the beach, this story will resonate with you greatly. I could feel the tension and the danger of the rescues jumping off the pages.

I always enjoy a story set in Australia, and this one holds up to having some of the Australian charm I look forward to. Of course, as an American, I shudder that they call oxygen "oxy." As we all know, in American that means something vastly different.

Overall, Flash Rip is a sweet story of coming to terms with one's sexuality. I highly suggest this Keira Andrews book when you're in the mood for a closeted character. It perfectly explores the reasons to stay closeted, as well as the struggles with not being allowed to be true to oneself.

Author Bio

After writing for years yet never really finding the right inspiration, Keira discovered her voice in gay romance, which has become a passion. She writes contemporary, historical, fantasy, and paranormal fiction and — although she loves delicious angst along the way — Keira firmly believes in happy endings. For as Oscar Wilde once said:

“The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what fiction means.”

The sexy Santa and the virgin dad....

Single dad Mario, twenty-one, has finally won shared custody of his five-year-old son, Sammy. They’re spending Christmas at a Tenerife resort to celebrate. The children’s swimming instructor, Josie, is sexy and fun, and Mario can’t stop dreaming about him. But Mario has no clue how to talk to a hot guy.

With his suntan, Speedos, and rippling abs, Josie seems to be the typical jock. He’s super sweet too, and everyone loves him. But he only has eyes for the fire-eyed little dad who looks like his son’s older brother and won’t stop policing the swimming class.

Sammy would like to be a king in the hotel’s nativity play. But he’s too afraid to go anywhere without his dad.
Mario would like a holiday romance with Josie, or even a little more, but between building his tech company and trying to do his part as Sammy’s father he has missed out on a lot and is too inexperienced to know where to begin.

Luckily Santa might have just the thing for everyone on his list...

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Santa on the Beach is a fun and sexy Christmas romance by Crystal Greene.

Mario and his young son are at the beach. The very place where Jose is a swimming instructor.

Mario's an amazing guy. He's only twenty-one, and is raising his five year old son. My heart hurts for him, as everyone judges him, and he's in the midst of losing custody. He definitely won my heart quickly.

Jose is a wonderful guy, as he's perfect for Mario, but is also so good with his son.

Their story contains some hot and steamy moments.

Overall, it's a sweet, feel-good Christmas romance.

Synopsis

Bored of with his mundane life, Leo Takahashi heads to the East Coast to find a new adventure. A series of unfortunate circumstances leave him in a potentially disastrous predicament: a gay man stranded in a backwater town of coastal North Carolina.
Sellars Hodge is a farmer from a long line of farmers who has never left his family’s land. He’s never even seen the ocean despite living less than ninety miles from the coast. In fact, he’s never done or seen anything interesting—he’s never even had a date.
When a stranded motorist stays at his house, Sellers gets a glimpse of everything he can never have. Though fear of his father’s reaction keeps him silent, Sellars’ two deepest secrets won’t stay hidden. The more time he spends with Leo, the less satisfied he is with the hand he’s been dealt and the choices he never had.
Leo wants to set up a quiet, independent life on the coast, but he feels pulled toward Sellars. He hates the idea of leaving such a vibrant, gentle giant behind to waste away on that farm.
Storms, both figurative and literal, brew in their lives, and they can only hope those storms clear the path to self-discovery and, most of all, love.

REVIEWS
My Rating - 5 Stars!

Ocean's Apart is a beautiful contemporary romance by JK Hogan.

Leo and Sellars weren't looking for love. But, when Leo's car broke down and Sellars helped him out, they unknowingly started on a journey towards just that.

Leo is moving to the beach, looking for something different in his life. Sellars works his family's farm and has nothing else in his life. He's closeted, knowing his dad would never approve of him being gay. He's also stuck on the farm, as he was never given a choice.

What follows is an extraordinary story of two young men who help each other to find happiness and a true home. Sometimes people just need a choice.

Their story involves some homophobia, a controlling father and some wonderfully supportive siblings. As for their fate, they will get their happily ever after, but the ending is absolutely perfect!

Oceans Apart is definitely worth a read, so don't miss out on this terrific coming of age story. JK Hogan's writing style is exquisite, compelling and charming. I love the atmospheric descriptions of the land and the storms.

Excerpt

LEO DISAPPEARED UPSTAIRS TO HOPEFULLY FIND something suitable to wear. I had followed him into the foyer, but when I heard my parents’ voices, I returned to hover just outside the kitchen door. If Mama caught me eavesdropping, she’d smack me upside the head, but somehow, I knew they’d be talking about Leo, and I wanted to know what was said.
“. . . but he’s one of them,” Pop was saying.
My stomach clenched with anxiety.
“He’s wearing makeup, for Pete’s sake, Marla. What people do in the privacy of their own homes is one thing, but I don’t want my son spending too much time around that behavior.”
“That’s ridiculous,” Ma said. “You are being ridiculous.”
“It isn’t. I just don’t want—”
“It’s not the damn flu. It ain’t catchin’.”
“Marla . . .”
“Jim . . .”
I knew that was the beginning of a stare-down that Mama would eventually win. She always did. At least I knew if they found out about me, I’d still have one parent on my side. Somehow that didn’t calm the storm raging in my gut. This was all hitting too close to home. All I wanted was to run out the back door, hop on my tractor, and get lost in the fields for the day, but Leo was bounding down the stairs looking pleased as Punch that he’d found himself some jeans—designer, probably—some Doc Martens—mint condition—and a T-shirt that said “Not Today, Satan” in bold letters on the front. I barely suppressed a put-upon sigh.
“Ready?” I asked, wondering if a man like him could ever be ready for a day on the farm.
He nodded but chewed nervously on the side of his fingernail.
“Nothin’ to be afraid of. It’s real quiet out there. Nothin’ will get you except maybe the honeybees, but as long as you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you,” I joked as I held the front door open for him to step out onto the wide porch.
He gave me a small smile. “Is it that obvious? I’m not very outdoorsy.”
“Only a little.” I grinned. I took him around the side of the main house, where Mama’s small garden was. We had a larger one on the east end of our land that fed our roadside stand, but this one was for our own consumption. “This is where my mother grows her stuff for cooking. It’s mainly got herbs and summer veggies right now.”
“Is everything she cooks grown here?”
“All the vegetables, for sure. There are a few fruit trees down the way, but we get a lot of our fruit and meats from the farmers market. Chances are if we don’t grow it or raise it, one of our neighbors or family members does.”
“That’s . . . incredible,” he said. “I mean, it’s not something I’m used to, being a born and bred city boy, but I bet the food tastes a lot better.”
“I don’t really have much to compare it to, but it works for us.” I led him past the garden, and we threaded our way through the boxy white columns that held the beehives and their honey. The bees’ dull buzzing filled the air, but they paid us no mind. I could tell they made Leo nervous, but he didn’t complain.
“Ever had fresh honey?” I asked. “Or . . . wait, can vegetarians have honey?”
“I think you’re thinking of vegan—that’s the one where they don’t eat any animal products. I’m not sure if they eat honey, but I’m only a vegetarian. So yes, I can eat honey, but no, I probably have never had fresh honey.”
I opened a small toolbox next to one of the bee boxes and pulled out a pair of beekeeping gloves. I opened the box and pulled out one of the frames crawling with bees. Taking my pocketknife off my belt, I cut out and pried off a tiny corner of honeycomb, then held it out to Leo. His eyes widened like he didn’t quite know what to do.
“Just take it. You can just suck the honey off if you want, but the comb is edible too.”
He turned red but kept his mouth shut and took the comb.
I watched him out of the corner of my eye as I slid the frame back in, replaced the lid, and put back the gloves. He didn’t try the honey. He wasn’t even looking at it. He was staring at me. “What? Don’t like honey?”
“No! I mean, honey’s okay I guess, b-but . . . you just stuck your hand in a beehive like it was nothing.
Who does that?”
I shrugged, uncomfortable with the attention. “I mean, beekeepers do . . .  All the time.”
“You do have a point. Honey has to come from somewhere, I guess. Just warn a guy next time. Jesus.”
“Sorry,” I said with a smirk. I wasn’t actually feeling sorry at all. “Are you going to taste that or what?” He was staring at the comb like I might stare at a piece of sushi, something I was sure he’d had plenty of in San Francisco.
“After I take you around, I thought we might head to . . .” I trailed off as his pink tongue darted out to taste the honey, and he let out such a lewd moan, I lost my train of thought.
“Oh my god,” he said, his eyes rolling back. “I don’t even really like honey that much. But this—this isn’t honey. This is like . . . ambrosia or something.” He froze mid-lick when he caught sight of my face.
“What?”
I had to force my gaze away from his glistening lips, but then it landed on the hand that held the comb. I gulped as sticky honey slowly trickled down his long, elegant fingers. I would’ve given up my every possession for the chance to lick it off. The sun had barely risen, but already the humidity had settled on his skin, making it glow. I felt the fiery blush as it spread over my cheeks, so I attempted to distract him by handing him a bandana from my pocket for him to clean his hands with—though I’d happily watch him lick it off for the rest of my life. “N-nothing. Um . . . let’s keep walking.”
I kept quiet as I led him between the hog barn and the blackberry patch, because I couldn’t trust that the next words out of my mouth wouldn’t be “Please let me worship every inch of you with my tongue.” It would probably be hard to keep my preferences under wraps after blurting that out, and after hearing my father’s words that morning, I was even more wary of giving myself away.
