Snowed (Boston Rebels #3) by R.J. Scott & V.L. Locey

A second chance at love is all Kyle wants for Christmas, but a dark menace from his past wants him dead, and love is second to staying alive.

Kyle Lourenco has carved out a comfortable life and career for himself in Boston. With the holidays quickly approaching, he’s heading home for the first time in several years. Home to his loving parents and the small Canadian town where he was raised. And home to Christian, his best friend and the first man to steal his heart.

Just as a winter storm begins to blow in, it forces Kyle off the road only miles from home and a dark and sinister force from his past creeps ever closer. His only hope is getting to Christian’s cabin before the evil that has haunted him for years finally catches up to him.

Best friends since they were three, Christian Gauthier grew up next door to Kyle, in a remote mountain town with one stoplight and a forty-mile round trip to the nearest school. When Kyle left town for a shot at a professional hockey career, he took Christian’s heart with him. Even though he knew Kyle was always destined for bigger things, it hadn’t stopped Christian from falling for him as soon as he knew what love was.

With Christmas coming soon and a major snowstorm heading their way, Christian shuts the doors to the family store and heads to his cabin, where he will be on standby as an official volunteer for Search and Rescue. He has never regretted staying in Eagle Ridge, but a near miss on a simple rescue leads him to reevaluate everything, and when Kyle ends up at his door, he knows that guarding his heart might not be the best solution after all.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Snowed in the third book in the Boston Rebels series. This RJ Scott and VL Locey story is a great addition to this hockey world.

This one has me surprised at the start with a complete change of pace from their usual stories. Kyle is a hockey player but that's about all you'll find about sports in this one.

This is a tale with forced proximity, second chances, danger, and a murder mystery. I definitely wasn't expecting that.

I love and adore the relationship between Kyle and Christian. Each are well rounded, with plenty of hurt and fears. I'm in awe of how much these two have gone through and yet how much they still love each other.

Kyle's past that has led to his ongoing terrors is tough to read. One can't help but to want to help this man find closure. Best of all though is the way it's all written. You can feel his pain and anxiety throughout. His pain becomes your pain.

Snowed is a riveting second chance romance by RJ Scott and VL Locey. These characters will win you over quickly, delight you with their feelings for one another, and keep you on your toes when the danger strikes. This book is perfect the next time you are in the mood for angst and danger entwined with a beautiful love story.

A trip that he thought would bring him only pain is about to present him with the greatest gift of all.

For three years now, Cabriolet Vermat has put off, wiggled out of, and outright lied to get out of making this dreaded trip east. The owner of Cabriolet Chauffeur Services in Los Angeles has avoided the yearly invitation to the small town of White Bridge, New York, to speak at their alumni winter gathering but this year they’ve outfoxed him. They’re throwing a dinner to honor his late partner’s dedication to his alma mater and have asked Cab to speak. This time he has to go no matter how much pain it will stir up. Arriving in the picturesque small town beside one of the Finger Lakes, Cab is treated to a special performance of holiday songs and there he sees Julian Gabriel Baez for the first time.

The young singer captivates him immediately, and he finds hims
elf seeking out the much younger man after the performance. The pull he feels toward Jules is unlike anything he’s felt since he met his partner years ago. Confusion and desire war within him, but the outgoing young tenor wins him over with his engaging smile and kind heart. A two-day trip soon turns into an extended holiday vacation. Cab worries that the magic of Christmas will quickly fizzle out and he’ll be alone once more. Or will this festive season bestow a blessing of the heart upon a man who thought he would never love again?

The Christmas Tenor is a standalone small-town gay Christmas romance with a beautiful May-December relationship, a lonely widower, a rising opera star, loving families, and plenty of holiday joy.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

The Christmas Tenor is a sweet holiday romance by VL Locey. The third book in the Laurel Holidays series, it's a nice standalone read.

This is a great read that features an age gap, an opera singer, and an older widow. Cab is a widower who's intrigued by the younger singer, but has a long way to go before fully opening his heart again.

As usual for this author, the writing is great, with well developed characters, a nice storyline, and plenty of romance. This is all told from the older man's pov, so we don't get a glimpse into Jules' feelings, but I can easily overlook that, as Cab has a lot of personal baggage to work through.

The Christmas Tenor is a perfect choice when you're in the mood for a tender, heart-warming holiday romance. VL Locey delights again with this age gap romance.

Desert Dreams (Owatonna U Hockey #6) by R.J. Scott & V.L. Locey

When danger stalks their new home, it’s only their strength as a couple that keeps them safe.

Ryker misses Jacob every day he’s away. At the start of a new Raptors season with everything to play for, Jacob, the desert ranch, and their small menagerie of animals have become an oasis of peace in a turbulent world. He’s never ridden a horse, he’s never considered how much this place would mean to him, but suddenly he’s forming a connection with a mare called Tops and loving every moment of this new life. Balancing hockey with his love for Jacob, he feels that nothing can ever go wrong.

With his life finally on track, Jacob is pouring all of himself into the dream he shares with Ryker. Putting the final touches on Mountain Vista Ranch, a halfway home for troubled LGBTQ youth and their families, fills his heart with pride. When their first clients arrive, he finds himself drawn to the small family and their plight. Little does he or Ryker know that the darkness the newcomers have fled from is following them.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Desert Dreams is a break from the normal world of the Owatonna U Hockey series. This edition in the series by RJ Scott and VL Locey follows Ryker and Jacob on their latest adventures.

They've opened a retreat for LGBTQ families and it's a wonderful concept for sure. And what a surprise as it starts with Jack Campbell-Hayes making an appearance! That was a total SQUEE moment, as it will be for any long time fans of RJ Scott. Seriously, I was dying seeing Jack again!

This story follows the lovable Ryker and Jacob, allowing us to follow their lives and gifts us with plenty of appearances/mentions of former characters. I just adore everything about the hockey world of these two authors.

Of course, this story shows the adjustments Ryker has to make to ranch life as he's also dealing with team issues. Overall, there's a lot going on in this tale; some good, some bad. But, as usual, it's a great ending.

Desert Dreams is a wonderful, heart-warming addition to this series. This author combo continues to bring these characters and their stories to live in the most lovable ways.

He never thought he’d find love again, but one summer changes his entire life.

Greg Mattar always had a clear path in life. The son of wealthy professionals, he and his sister wanted for nothing growing up in Montreal. His skills playing hockey led him to be picked first in the draft and a successful career as one of the premier defensemen in the league. He married his college sweetheart and within a year, they’d been blessed with twin girls. Then the unthinkable happened, and Greg’s life was turned inside out.

After losing his wife to cancer, he’s left alone to raise his daughters and at the same time balance his career. After a rough two years of mourning coupled with a dismal season, Greg and his girls travel to a small vacation community deep in the Catskills. There he meets Aiden Burke, a local artisan with a past who enchants not only Greg’s daughters but Greg as well. During a vacation filled with laughter, acceptance, and morning goose parades, the two men fall for each other, which begins a journey down a winding road of revelations and romance.

Pines and Violets is the seventh book in VL Locey's Colors of Love series. Each book is easily read as a standalone.

Greg's a black hockey player who's spending some time in the woods with his daughters. Still grieving the loss of his wife, he's surprised to find himself attracted to the strange guy with the goats.

Their story is cute and sweet, with everything evolving naturally between the men. And I adore the kids and their contribution to the story. They are cute and funny, and totally loveable.

I appreciate that Greg never struggles with his sexuality. Instead, this is the story of him falling in love, coming out, and dealing with some obstacles that are in his way.

Their story is full of first times and sexual experimentation. It's a story with racism and homophobia, both of which had my heart hurting for Greg.

Theirs is a story of redemption, acceptance, and forgiveness. It's a story of finding one's place in the world again. And I love it all!

Pines and Violets is the perfect feel-good escape. This VL Locey is nice and low-angst, with plenty to keep you charmed throughout.

Series Overview

The Boston Rebels were established in the roaring twenties as one of the Original Six teams in the fledgling new professional hockey league. Success came to them somewhat quickly as they won the championship in nineteen thirty-two by beating New York to become the first American team to bring home the cup.

From the first out NHL captain, to the bright young star making his mark, the defenseman fighting addiction and finding out he’s a dad, to the goalie being stalked by a killer, meet a brand new team of hockey players from the authors of bestselling MM Hockey Romance’, RJ Scott & VL Locey.

Back Check (Boston Rebels 2)

Meeting Joachim could save his daughter’s life, but it may well cost Isaac his heart.

It’s been one hell of a year for Joachim Löfgren. After a long summer in rehab, he’s been moved to a new town, one far away from the warm Florida sun he so adores, to bolster a struggling Boston defense since the departure of their beloved team captain. He hasn’t even unpacked his skates properly when fate lands another blow, and he’s told that he is dad to a gravely ill child he never knew existed. It’s an easy decision for the burly defenseman to help and he opens up his new home to his child and her guardian Isaac. He’s instantly enchanted with the preschooler as well as her uncle and decides that his life will only be complete if his daughter is part of it. Filing for custody is the only option he feels he has, but this throws his budding relationship with Isaac into utter chaos. The two men soon find themselves on opposite sides of the courtroom as they both fight for the life they feel is best for Sophia.

Despite grieving for the loss of his sister, Isaac doesn’t hesitate to take on the responsibility for his newborn niece Sophia, creating a brand new family of two built on love and laughter. He has a steady income painting pet portraits during the day, but it’s the subversive and satirical cartoons he draws at night that silence his thoughts in the dark. They don’t have much as a family, but he is Sophia’s dad now, and nothing and no one will ever come between them. When a routine pediatric checkup shows that Sophia is ill, it forces Isaac to confront every one of his fears. Finding a matching donor is her only hope, and Isaac begins the journey to find Sophia’s mysterious father. There are no names or dates in his sister’s battered journal, and all Isaac knows is that he’s looking for a hockey player who was nothing more than a one-night stand. Little does he know that finding Joachim could destroy everything.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Back Check is the second book in the Boston Rebels series. This RJ Scott and VL Locey series is an amazing addition to their other hockey books.

I love hockey romances and this one is my favorite trope, brother's best friend. Oh my god! Love it! And with this writing duo, you just can't go wrong.

Bring it on!

I love Xander and Mason together. I enjoy that they've known each other a long time and the chemistry between them is sizzling.

I always love the brother's best friend trope and this one is well done. There's plenty to keep you reading.

One fun part of this storyline is that Mason always thought Xander was straight. He crushed on him for years, but now finds out he's bisexual.

In addition to the brother's best friend conflict, there's a whole lot of focus on being out in hockey. Xander's life was very public which made me so sad for him.

This story is fun from the start but really gets fun when they take a trip to Aruba with the team. So much fun!

I continue to enjoy all the teammates who make appearances in this writing duo's books. It's so much fun and adds a lot to the storyline when we get to hang out with so many teammates. The bonus with this book is it's a new series with a whole new group of guys. Yay!

Back Check is delightful romance and I can't wait to see what comes next in this series. As usual, RJ Scott and VL Locey left me happy with the romance and kept me laughing a lot. I love this writing duo and can't get enough of them.

“Hey, guys, did you see this story coming out of Fort Lauderdale?”

Everyone looked at me.

“I didn’t do it,” I quickly said as I lifted my hands up innocently. “I was here in Boston.”

“No, it’s nothing bad like you’re used to,” Austin blurted out. Xander swatted him upside the head. The boy’s eyes bugged out, and his soft cheeks turned scarlet. “Oh! No, I didn’t mean you did bad stuff! Being drunk isn’t bad. Well, it kind of is bad when you run off the road and hit a mailbox. It’s not bad in a bad way. It’s, uhm… well, it’s just an addiction right, and you’re not drinking anymore so it’s all okay. No, well, okay in that you’ve stopped drinking and are now—”

“It’s okay, Rowe, I know what you meant, and it’s fine. I did some pretty fucked up things when I was under the influence of alcohol.”

Austin wilted a bit. “Okay, thanks. I didn’t mean to imply that addictions are bad. I mean they are! No, not bad like bad but—”

“It’s okay, kid. Just move onto the news story.” I chuckled. Moral lobbed a chunk of apple at Austin. He ducked it and the glob smacked Kyle in the cheek.

“Right, yeah, so there’s this guy down in Florida who’s looking for a bone marrow donor for his daughter. He showed up at a preseason hockey game to search for some mysterious fan called ‘Hockey Guy’ which the dead mother named as the possible father.”

“Shit, so the guy is raising his daughter alone?” Moral asked, the sad news slowing his inhalation of muffins for a moment.

“Wait…” He placed his muffin on its plate. “If he’s the father then why is he looking for the father?”

“He’s the baby’s uncle but has been raising her as her father. It’s all super sad and everyone in the league is signing up to see if they’re a match for the little girl with leukemia. Look at her.” He showed us all an image of an adorable little girl of perhaps three and her daddy/uncle who was also cute as hell. “We should sign up.”
