When Murphy Landon, the New York socialite, runs off to Vermont with her bruised reputation and stylish wardrobe in the trunk of a used car, it’s the first time in her life she’s dared to turn her back on her high-society parents.

Used to grabbing a gourmet coffee whenever the urge strikes, Murphy finds herself on the other side of the counter, fumbling strangers’ orders...until a sinfully handsome thirty-three-year-old version of Ben Rooney from high school walks in.

The pair met years ago at a prestigious boarding school and became friends, but only behind closed doors. She’d been a spoiled brat, and he was a football player on scholarship. Ben tried to hide his crush on her, and Murphy set firm boundaries. After a prom night gone wrong, they’d gone their separate ways.

Now their circumstances are reversed. Ben is a successful surgeon. He’s come a long way from his parents’ humble maple syrup business. And Murphy is pouring his coffee? Is this a joke?

His first thought is that she should drive her gorgeous self right back to New York, where she can’t possibly break his heart. His second one is deep concern. His third thought is he wants a do-over of prom night. A very adult one…

With plenty of secrets between them, copious pure maple syrup, Ben and Murphy are in for a wild and sticky ride.

My Rating - 3 Stars!

Friendzoned is the fourth book in the Busy Bean series. This is Rachel Blaufeld's contribution to this multi-author small town series.

First of all, I love Zara and Audrey and being back in their coffee shop.

Second of all, Murphy and Ben's story is a second chance romance.

When they are reunited after many years, oh how the tables have turned. Murphy was once the rich girl who couldn't stoop to date the poor Ben. And now she's living modestly, just trying to get by. On the other hand, Ben's now a doctor and rich.

Their tale is full of wonderful small town charm, including homemade honey and drive in movies.

These two are certainly cute together, but something held me back from embracing them as much as I did the other characters in this series. I liked them enough, but I also didn't really care. As well, the scandal that forced Murphy to the Busy Bean didn't make complete sense to me. I found it forced.

Friendzoned is a small town second chance romance. Rachel Blaufeld definitely brings all the atmosphere to this read, I just didn't fully connect with the romance.

My head felt congested like when spring allergies first come on. A dull ache throbbed in my forehead and ears, the kind of ache that lingered. I wondered why Ben was here in Colebury—at least a half hour from Montpelier—while his blue eyes urgently bore into me, trying to tell me something telepathically. Maybe he simply wanted me to leave him alone.

“Um, my Americano?”

My cheeks burst into flames. “Right. I’m on it.”

Forcing myself to look down at the counter, I made the drink. At least this wasn’t an order I could mess up. My thoughts, typically a jumbled mess of espresso drink recipes, was now swirling with memories of Ben then compared to the reality of Ben now . . . this new version of him.

When I handed him the reusable mug, he tightened the cap and said, “Thanks. You didn’t try to poison me, did you?”

Swallowing my pride, I shook my head. “Of course not. I would never. Plus, Zara wouldn’t be too happy with that. She’s a good one,” I said, the last part a whisper. She’d given me a chance, after all.

“At one time, you did try.” He raised a brow, alluding to the badly spiked punch at Burnett’s after-prom party.

I’d felt compelled to go to that stupid party, determined to show my ex what a good time I was having with Ben. Except, poor Ben got sick and spent the evening puking, and I was at a loss about what to do with him. I’d never been very good at putting anyone else first. After all, I’d never had to.

Ben took a long sip of his coffee, mesmerizing me with the bob of his Adam’s apple. He cleared his throat, drawing my attention away from his corded neck. “Not bad.”

Take that, Little Miss Perfect.

“Wow. Murphy Landon. In the Busy Bean. On the opposite side of the counter than I bet you’re used to being, huh? Tell you the truth, I’d never thought I’d see the day. You doing this,” he waved his hand at the counter, “right here in Vermont.”

He stared at me with equal parts fascination and contempt, probably because I let him get rip-roaring drunk and make a fool of himself way back when.

“It’s an honest job,” I said, “and I happen to need it. Anyway, I thought you were in a hurry, but now you have time to make fun of me?”

I frowned at him, feeling the need to defend myself when I didn’t owe Ben a single thing. After all, I’d come to believe that he hadn’t always been honest with me. Not to mention, Ben was just as guilty about lumping me into stereotypes as I had done with him. Right?

“Oh, I’m sure you need this gig. Like you needed good grades in high school, as if you weren’t going to get into the Ivy League from Pressman. Aw, sorry.”

He ran his free hand through his hair. It happened to be his left, and I made the mistake of noting he wasn’t wearing a wedding band.

“I don’t mean to be rude,” he said. “This is such a shock, seeing you here, and I’m not handling it well. You look good, Murph. Nice to see you. Honestly. I mean it,” he said, holding a hand up as if he were swearing to it.

MF - Forever Moore (Moore Family #1) by Frankie Page

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Jax Harris has been in love with Tilly Moore for as long as he can remember. But timing has never been on their side. A dream career opportunity sent Jax traveling around the world but after a decade apart, tragedy has brought him home. Now that he has returned, he is not sure if he has the strength to leave Tilly all over again. But faced with life-altering choices, will he fight to stay?

Forever Moore is a full-length romance complete with HEA, no cliffhanger, and no cheating. Note: this story is not suitable for persons under the age of 18. Potential triggers lie within this book.

My Rating - 3 Stars!

Forever Moore is the first book in the Moore Family by Frankie Page. I definitely have mixed feelings about it.

This is a riveting story, but the beginning felt like something was missing.

Things start with a phone Jax receives from his best friend Scott. Immediately, Jax is on a plane and then comforting the shaken and withdrawn Tilly.

For me, I was uncomfortable with how long it took to explain the relationship between Jax and the whole family. It felt like I was walking into a second or third book in a series instead of the first.

As for the relationship between Jax and Tilly, I enjoyed this. Tilly is definitely stubborn and puts up some barriers. But damn, I also wanted to yell at her. Her walls were a little too much.

Their relationship is a second chance for the couple, as they are reunited after a long separation. The reader follows the couple as they get to know one another again, and deal with plenty of internal issues.

Oh, and Jax is fabulous!

Forever Moore is a decent read. This Frankie Page read left me excited to see what comes next in this series. Now that I know the family and their dynamics, I am hoping the next books feel more natural. The family itself is one that I am intrigued by and look forward to get to know them even better.

Whole In His Arms (Wildwood Mates #3) by Skye R. Richmond

River is determined to be supportive of his mate but having to say goodbye to his mate when he only just found him sends the young omega through a whirlwind of emotions. He doesn’t want to lose his mate, but he refuses to stand in Nix’s way.

With the support of family and friends, River tries to hold on long enough for Phoenix to come back home… to him and their baby.

Will Nix be able to find the answers he’s longed for before it’s too late? Or will he find his siblings only to have them taken away?

My Rating - 3 Stars!

Whole in His Arms is a decent omegaverse romance by Skye R Richmond. The third book in the Wildwood Mates series, it's not really a romance.

Nix and River's tale is not what I was expecting. They're already an established couple when this story starts.

Instead of their developing relationship, this is the story of Nix trying to find his family, and saving omegas from danger. For most of the story, Nix and River are apart, with the reader seeing how much they miss and support each other.

So, again, not a romance. More of an adventure story.

I do enjoy the issues going on with Nix and River, as they are apart while River is pregnant. And I enjoy the way everything resolves itself as far as the omegas are concerned.

Whole in His Arms is a nice adventure story by Skye R Richmond. If you're looking for a true romance, this is not that. I spent most of the story thinking something was missing.

Could swearing off men lead Chelsea to the perfect woman?

After being rejected one too many times, Chelsea makes a bold vow: No more men. Her friends doubt a boy-crazy party girl can handle not dating for a year, but that only makes Chelsea more determined.

Tara has made a vow, too. After growing up in foster care and suppressing herself to please others, she's going to live her truth. When she sees a beautiful woman, she'll make her attraction known.

Chelsea appreciates Tara's flirtatious compliments, not to mention her androgynous beauty. There's a loophole in Chelsea's vow, and it's more tempting every day...

My Rating - 3 Stars!

Kim Hartfield's Flipcup is a small town lesbian romance. Part of the multi-author Vino & Veritas series, it's a standalone, as the series can be read in any order.

This book is a mix of good and only okay for me.

I enjoy the romance between Chelsea and Tara. They're an interesting mix of personalities. I like the sexual awakening for Chelsea, although I find her ability to go all in so quickly a little weird. Most of the time, her vibe is that of just looking for a way around her no sex with men vow.

I definitely struggled with getting the feel of both characters. And it takes a long time to find Chelsea relatable. And damn, I really hated her at the start. She's so pathetically immature, which just doesn't work for me.

I also don't care about Chelsea's business endeavor. I love that Tara encourages and supports her, but I just don't care about it. Basically, I end up enjoying how she changes, but it takes a long time to get the feeling that she will change.

Their story is full of flirting, first times and plenty of sexual exploration. As time goes on, I enjoy the characters once the author starts to reveal more than the surface stuff.

Flipcup is a decent romance overall. This Kim Hartfield read is a mix of fluff and steam. But the best is the epilogue!

I put the barrel under the bar and went back for the second one.

“I’m impressed by the fact that you do that all day, every day,” Tara said.

I shrugged, standing up straight. “It was hard at first, but you get used to it.”

“You don’t even break a sweat.” She gazed at the neckline of my shirt, then back at my face. “You’re amazing.”

Heat rose to my cheeks. “Flattery gets you nowhere.”

“Is that right?”

My heart hammered, and I lowered my voice. “Not if you’re already where you want to be.”

We had a date on Friday. It was pretty much guaranteed that we were going to rip each other’s clothes off and have our fill of each other. That was only two days from now. Fifty-three, maybe fifty-four hours. There was no reason for us to be standing here staring at each other with unrestrained lust, the air between us thick with sexual tension.

But Tara stepped toward me, close enough that I could feel her body heat. “Where do you think I want to be, exactly?”

I gulped. Men weren’t this straightforward with me unless we were both wasted. Even then, we quickly established that we were both on the same page, and then we went and did it. There were none of this complexity, this need to pursue as well as be pursued. Tara claimed she was a relationship person, and that she was going outside of her norm to do this with me. If I said the wrong thing, I might spook her and make her lose interest altogether. And that was the last thing I wanted to do.

I decided to be direct—but not too direct. “I think you want me,” I told her.

“You know what?” She leaned in, and the heat of her breath tickled my ear. “You’re right.”

“Friday?” I breathed.

She stepped back, leaving me gasping. The moment was over—or was it? She was still giving me that lustful look, her eyes dark and heavy-lidded. “Meet me in the restroom.”

Was she serious? My pulse was skyrocketing. I stared at her, looking for some sign that she was joking.

She gave me a tiny smile, then the smallest, subtlest nod toward the restrooms. Then she was gone, and I found myself unable to breathe.

Were we really doing this? I’d been dreaming of it for weeks, and now it was actually happening. I practically ran into the restroom, where Tara was waiting. “So here we are. The benefit of same-sex relationships.” She locked the door with a key from her pocket. “Works extra well when you’re dating an employee.”

Dating. Oh my God. My knees were ready to buckle, and my mind was barely functioning.

Before I could think of words to respond, she’d pushed me up against the sink. Her lips were on mine, hard and aggressive, and I responded with equal fervor. My body had been longing for hers ever since the last time we’d kissed. It’d only been a few days, but it was far, far, too long.

The space between my legs tingled in a whole different way. My panties were drenched, and my nipples cried for attention. Tara swept back my hair so she could go for my neck, her teeth digging in painfully. This was going to leave a mark, but it felt so—damn—good. I couldn’t have stopped her even if I’d wanted to.

“What have you done to me?” she murmured under her breath.

“Me? I should be asking you the same question.”

Nothing Like a Summer Romance (Finding Forever #1.5) by Marie Sinclair

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

First times. First loves. The perfect summer romance. Maybe.

Jake only exchanged a handful of words with his college roommate’s incredibly hot best friend, but he can't stop thinking about Micah. When his roommate invites Jake to visit for the final month of summer break, Jake jumps at the chance to escape being home with his alcoholic father and figure out why Micah seems different from all the guys he's ever hooked up with.

Micah’s surprised to see Jake show up on Long Island, but a month around the guy he's been crushing on is a dream come true. Even better, Jake seems to return his interest. Despite repeated warnings that Jake isn’t a relationship kind of guy, Micah knows he’s falling hard. He wants Jake to be his first for everything. Now the only question is whether Jake wants those things too.

Nothing Like a Summer Romance is a 45,000-word prequel to Nothing Like Forever, book two in the Finding Forever Series.

My Rating - 3 Stars!

Nothing Like a Summer Romance is a hot read by Marie Sinclair. Part of the Finding Forever series, it's a prequal to Nothing Like Forever.

This one starts with Jake and Micah sort of being set up by a mutual friend. It's cute the way they reacted the first time they met.

Best of all though is the way these two are such opposites. One's a shy virgin. They other's a player.

It's definitely cute and sweet the way everything evolves for these two. And damn, they are hot together.

It's a story with lots of flirting, some hot first times, and some sexual tutoring. Squeeee!

It's really got a ton of sex, with some attraction and development in between.

The writing style is pleasant and easy to read. I definitely enjoyed the soothing flow. At just 133 pages, there's plenty of fun and heat, but less character development than we could have otherwise had. It's written in third person, which tends to leave me less connected to the characters, so that may be part of it for me.

Nothing Like a Summer Romance is a decent novella. This Marie Sinclair book is a nice lead into the full length book that's coming next. This is great when you're in the mood for a short sexy read. As for me, I'm glad to have read it and am looking forward to the full book that will follow.

The first book in the series, A Kind of Forever is an emotional and powerful second chance romance. Be sure to check this one out too.

Out of Your League (Shoot Your Shot #2) by Joe Satoria

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

MARCUS
After growing up in Becker Bay, it was the last place I thought I'd be forced to look for talent as a football scout. Least of all, finding my high school bully trying to impress me.

Ricky Stone swears he's the best, and he's willing to show me a good time to prove it--who am I to ignore the advances of an attractive man?

RICKY
I was a king on the football pitch; destined for greatness, signed a pro contract at 16, then ten years on and nothing's changed. Except for seeing a guy who once kissed me.

Marcus Mitchell has the power and contacts to make or break my football career, and I'll do whatever it takes to win him over--but first I'll need a drink.

OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE is a standalone MM sports romance. Read on and you'll find enemies-to-lovers in a second chance, gay for you/bisexual awakening with a HEA.

My Rating - 3 Stars!

Out of Your League, the second book in Joe Satoria's Shoot Your Shot series, is a standalone sports romance.

Marcus is sent home due to a family business deal. There, he
reunites with the man who was his first kiss. Of course, Ricky's also the man who bullied him. Marcus also has to face his half brother and mother, which causes him plenty of angst.

In general, I am totally torn about this book.

Good god, I hate Ricky at first. He's such an ass who also happens to have an alcohol addiction and a gambling problem. It took me a while to "get" him and I'm still
struggling to figure out why and how Marcus is able to look beyond Joe's behavior. It doesn't work for me at all. I needed something as to WHY he would forgive and forget. The fact that he's a former crush is not enough for me.

But, later, after a second kiss, Ricky starts to drop his walls and becomes a little more likeable. Maybe.

I am a huge sports romance fan so I was excited to read this book. But I have to warn you, it's not much about sports at all. It's definitely focusing on Ricky's growth as a person.

Honestly, I am still in awe that the author manages to turn Ricky around at all. He is a vile person. Until he isn't as much of one. Sort of.

And I wanted to kick Marcus to just leave his ass. But I guess Marcus is a better person than me. Why the hell he sticks by Ricky is beyond me. And ultimately, I just can't get past this issue.

I do enjoy the family issues for Marcus. His father is quite the character, and all this makes for some memorable moments. As well, his mother and brother, and all the background between them is quite unique.

I enjoy the GFY aspect. Hell, I always love a GFY tale.

I continue to like the author's writing style, which is pleasant, with a good pace, and great dialogue. And, damn, there's foreskin play! I repeat, there's foreskin play!

Out Of Your League is a good book when you're in the mood for character growth. This Joe Satoria book has it in spades. But it isn't quite my thing and I'm struggling to recommend it.

FF - The Mandolin Lunch by Missouri Vaun

Children’s book illustrator Garet Allen has just escaped her most recent, ill-fated relationship and accepts a temporary teaching position at a rural public school. After all, how hard can teaching kids about art really be? Apparently, pretty hard, because her first day on the job is a complete disaster, and that has nothing at all to do with the fact that Tess Hill, the captivating and overly conscientious music teacher, shares the same classroom.

Tess, a dedicated teacher and single mother focused on creating a stable life for her daughter, is immediately attracted to the handsome, cavalier Garet for all the wrong reasons. Everything about Garet says short-term, and Tess refuses to consider anything less than forever. She’s not about to give her heart away to someone she can’t count on.

Can Garet and Tess survive three months sharing the same classroom without killing each other…or falling in love?

My Rating - 3 Stars!

The Mandolin Lunch is a slow burn lesbian romance.

Tess is a single mom, trying to balance raising June and everything work involved. She dreams of having a partner to share her life and responsibilities with.

Meanwhile, Garet's in town for a short time, for a three month teaching position.

The two have some instant attraction when they meet, and then discover they'll be teaching in the same room for three months. Yay - forced proximity between two people who are already hot for each other.

From the start, the tone drew me in. The writing style is pleasant, instantly intriguing me with these characters. That said, the story is definitely way slow at times, as the author excels at setting the scenery, thus dragging out the story. It's a sweet story that develops as you'd expect, but it definitely bored me during the second half.

I adore June and all her moments in the story. She's cute and adds a lot to the tale. She also makes me happy to have discovered this tale.

The Mandolin Lunch is well worth a read when you're in the mood for simple, sweet lesbian romance. But only read it if you enjoy descriptive writing.
