Memory's Prisoner by Jamie Lynn Miller

Detectives Mitchell Reid and Joseph Valentino of the Chicago Police Department have finally moved from friends to lovers, partners on the job and off. Their new-found happiness is short-lived, however, when an escaped felon with a thirst for revenge shatters their world. The police tactical raid to recapture the convict goes horribly wrong, leaving Mitch severely wounded and Joey with a devastating head injury that plunges him into a long-term coma. Two years later, Joey awakens with partial amnesia, which has erased a year of his life, including the knowledge that he and Mitch are lovers. Unwilling to force Joey back into a relationship if his feelings for him were no longer there, Mitch can only suffer in silence as he supports Joey on his long road to recovery, hoping he will remember the love they once shared. Note: This is a second edition of a previously published book that has been re-edited, revised and expanded.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Memory's Prisoner is a beautiful story of two lovers coming back to each other after tragedy. Jamie Lynn Miller pulls at our heart-strings as Mitch are Joey face horrific odds.

After a hot start to their story, there's a police raid that goes wrong, followed by Mitch's agony as he realizes his fate and Joey's status. We are taken on an emotional ride, as their fate is unknown. Mitch has to deal with his own injury, as well as Joey's and the reader can feel Mitch's pain throughout.

Their journey includes hot sex, injuries, and physical therapy, as well as grief, guilt, and anger.

It's heart-breaking, but luckily doesn't leave us wondering for too long. It's a fast story, so a lot is crammed into it. Personally, if there was more detail, I would have been a sobbing mess. Luckily, as Jamie choose to keep this a short story, it is an easier ride for the reader.

I adore Jamie Lynn Miller's writing style and Memory's Prisoner is done perfectly. We smile, we cry, and we feel our hearts mending in the end. I love Mitch and Joey as a couple and am thrilled that they found their way back to each other, making this a feel-good story!

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

Jamie Lynn Miller's Love and Poison is a story of two lovers who are further developing their relationship and then are threatened with losing one another.

Bryce and Caleb are two partners who are openly gay at work but remain secretly involved. These partners at work and at home know that co-workers being involved would be frowned upon.

Their story has plenty of heat, plenty of emotion, and a whole lot of danger. Despite being a short tale of just 80 pages, there is decent character development, drawing the reader into Bryce and Caleb's relationship, leaving them rooting for couple in the end. They are hot, passionate, and understanding and certainly deserve to be together.

Most of the story is light-hearted and feel-good despite the heavyness of the countdown to losing one another. Told in 3rd person pov, it's an easy read.

Love and Poison is a story full of poison, danger, and investigations that round out this romance. Bryce and Caleb are sweet and I definitely enjoyed their story.

My Reviews -

Book 1 - Broken Soldier

Oh My God! Broken Soldier is remarkable, riveting, and memorable!

This is not just a case of a soldier being broken, it is also a book that will break it's reader. Seriously, I can't even explain how excruciating this was for me to read. But, I couldn't stop. I needed to know what was going to happen.

I am in awe of Jamie Lynn Miller's ability to create such an emotional and gut-wrenching story. I spent the whole time reading crying, and stressed out of my mind. That said, I am thrilled to have discovered this book, and this series.

Two soldiers, sent to work undercover, in a mission that just might kill them. (And Me!) Their mission is excruciating on their relationship, and on the soldiers themselves.

Jamie Lynn Miller has wowed me with this first book in the Shadow Unit Series and I can't wait to jump into the next book!

Book 2 - Rogue Soldier

I need to start out by just saying that I love Shawn and Connor.  They continue to be just as wonderful in Rogue Soldier, the second book in Jamie Lynn Miller's Shadow Unit series.

Shawn and Connor are so perfect for each other, and once again are tested in their strength as a couple. This time, Shawn's ex is back in the picture, desperately wants him back, and is willing to do anything to achieve this.

The feeling that there is something wrong with their mission, along with the horrific events that unfold, are well developed and extremely gripping. As with Book one, again I was completely sucked into this story and could not stop reading until I was done.

Rogue Soldier is steamy, unexpected, and well crafted. It's a great follow up to Book One, Broken Soldier, making for the beginning of a great series by Jamie Lynn Miller.

Book 3 - Hunted Soldier

Hunted Soldier is the third book in the Shadow Unit series by Jamie Lynn Miller.

I have to admit that the blurb excited me a lot, as this book addresses Shawn's heroin addiction from book 1. As we all know, heroin is so addictive that Shawn's strong desire to give into the drug again is extremely realistic and very well described. I was glad to see that his addiction wasn't treated like it was permanently cured.

Their assignment in this book is again well written and thorough in it's details. It is another life or death situation for them, which gets me questioning why they keep doing this, the same as  they both question. But, this is who they are; soldiers who are dedicated to their jobs of helping others.

Hunted Soldier is emotionally charged, once again leaving you on the edge of your seat to the end.

I am so happy I discovered this series. Jamie Lynn Miller's writing style is fantastic, as she continues to take these two passionate soldiers and put them through some horrendous ordeals, all while holding so strongly onto their love.

Be sure to check out this series!

Book 4 - Dying Soldier

Dying Soldier, the fourth book in the Shadow Unit series by Jamie Lynn Miller, manages to continue to be aswonderful as the previous books.

Once again, we get to follow Shawn and Connor through some battles, and they watch them battle for their lives.

Their struggle is written with great care and detail, and is splendid in it's details.

Shawn and Connor continue to be such a fabulous couple. They are usually busy on missions, or in bed, but this time they have to take some time off to just talk. It's fun, despite the severity of why, that this isn't something that comes natural to them.

I am elated to have discovered this series.  Jamie Lynn Miller manages to write captivating tales of these men who constantly risk their lives to help others. Thus creating such vulnerable characters who have a passionate love for one another.

Be sure to check out this series in it's entirety!

Author Bio

Jamie Lynn Miller has been writing fiction since childhood and decided to take the plunge and go pro in 2008, finding to her amazement that people truly enjoyed her love stories. She’s a romantic at heart, and her tales reflect the desire we all have to find “the one,” persevering through trials and heartache for that happy ending.

Jamie has a degree in fine arts and has spent the last twenty years working as a graphic designer, though she’d much rather be writing. She was born in Chicago and still lives there today with her husband and their two furry, four-footed children, er… cats.

If she’s not brainstorming story ideas, you can find Jamie at a sci-fi convention, in front of a furnace doing glass blowing, or on a mat twisted into a yoga pose.
