You're My Home by Katie Moore

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

A love story you can live in…

Zach
Brady is my overprotective best friend, and I love him like this. He’s so much bigger than me and makes me feel safe. We are opposites in so many ways, but when I’m cuddled up against him and he reads to me, all those differences fade away. Brady promises to be friends forever, but what will he say when he finds out my secret? Will I lose my best friend and the boy I love more than life itself?

Brady
Zach is so tiny and tenderhearted. All I want to do is protect him from the world. He’s my sweet bookworm and never wants to hurt anyone. I love my best friend, but how do I give him all of me when I don’t understand myself yet? If nothing else, I can shower him with all the acceptance and love he deserves.

Zach and Brady come from completely different social and religious backgrounds, but they don’t let that weaken their friendship. Both teens have to go through a journey of self-discovery, including all the heartaches and joys that come with growing up. As they get older, will they find themselves and how they fit together?

You’re my Home is a sweet and emotional coming of age story. It’s a slow-burn, hurt/comfort, teen best friends to adult lovers romance. There will be tears, laughter, new friends, and steamy lovemaking as Zach and Brady learn the meaning of true acceptance of oneself and others.

**Trigger warnings: domestic violence, trauma, PTSD, and religious homophobia.

My Rating - 5+ Stars!

This book! Oh my god, this book! You're My Home is a debut novel for Katie Moore. And it's mesmerizing, riveting, and all consuming.

This book is long. No question about it. It is detailed, complex, and covers many years. Set plenty of time aside to read this.

This book is serious. Extremely serious. It touches on abuse, family issues, bullying, anxiety attacks, panic attacks, and a connection between two people unlike anything I've ever seen before. It thoroughly explores one's need to define their sexuality, and the elements of demi-sexuality.

This story is that of Brady and Zach, two boys who are worlds apart. But the connection between them is absolute. The first time Brady meets Zach, he knows he is there to help save him. From his father. From the bullies. From the ugliness of the world. And fortunately for Zach, Brady's family feels the same way.

I don't want to go into any details. It's best to just discover them as you read. But the story is amazingly beautiful and touching.

And it's as emotional as can be. Every single moment of this book, every single sentence, is weighed down with emotion. The emotions jump off the pages throughout.

It's a long, ugly, emotional journey for these two. But this is a romance, so ultimately it's no surprise that they eventually get together. I think it's fair to say this isn't a spoiler.

And when they do, oh my god. Seriously, I just can't even begin to explain how torturously emotional the sex scenes are. I thought the emotions carried this story before. But gah! The sex scenes. I've never read anything so full of emotion before.

Just read it.

Their journey starts as kids, carries them through the teen years, and ultimately looks at their futures. It's long. It's detailed. It could easily be a three part series. But it's pure perfection read all together.

You're My Home is absolutely addicting. From the first page, Katie Moore held me hostage with her words. This isn't like my typical review because this isn't a typical book. Zach and Brady grabbed my heart from the very first page and I lived and breathed every single moment of their journey with them. It's a spectacular book.

Special Release Excerpt:

“I want to talk to you.” Dad walks down the hallway to his office, knowing I’ll follow him. I lean against the doorframe, staying just far enough out that Zach will know where I am if he comes back into the kitchen.

Dad sits on the edge of his desk, facing me. “Who were the kids that were being mean?”

“Derek Sanders, the one I asked to leave here when he called Zach a stalker. Along with a few of JV freshman players that I don’t know well.”

“Not surprising, he seemed like a dick.”

My dad doesn’t usually call someone a dick, and it catches me so off guard that an abrupt laugh escapes from my chest.

“What were they making fun of him about?”

“His size…being a fourth-grader…a hobbit. Then they called him queer, and he got up and left.”

“No wonder he was so upset.” Dad rubs the back of his neck, and I realize that I have that same habit when I’m stressed.

“He was upset because he thought it would embarrass me. He never wants to hurt anyone, and when he thinks he’s the cause of it, he can’t handle it.”

“That’s why it makes me livid that someone would hurt him, even with words. God knows the kid has been through enough already.”

I catch movement out of the corner of my eye and turn to see Zach in the kitchen, looking lost. I wave my arm so he sees me, and he smiles. I watch him walk over to help Mom with the ice cream before looking back at Dad.

“He trusts you, Brady. The kind of trust that most people will never give. Be sure to treasure that and not do anything to break it. I’m not sure you could get it back if you did.”

Dad’s words feel heavy, like I need to memorize them and keep them close. “I wouldn’t do anything to break his trust.”

“I know you never would intentionally, but you’re young, and teenagers do stupid things. I think you’re mature beyond your years, and I am so proud of the young man you’re becoming. I’m only cautioning you because I see the bond you have with Zach, and I’m not sure you truly understand what it would mean to lose that. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime kind of friendship…love…and so many go through life searching for what you’ve found so young. Many never find it.”

He walks over to put his hand on my shoulder, squeezing gently. “All I’m saying, Son, is that when it comes to Zach, think before you react and don’t take all the love and trust he gives you for granted. Someday you’ll truly understand the depth and beauty of what he gives you. And what you give him.” His hand moves down over my heart. “You’ve given him a lot of space in here. Take care of your heart, Son, because that boy in the kitchen is most of it.”

I nod, speechless at my dad’s words.

Stoking the Fire (Salus Security #1) by Teodora Kostova

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

"You hired my ex as my bodyguard?"

When Alec left NYC - left me - I was a broken mess. All my days blurred into a continuous haze of alcohol, parties, and meaningless hook-ups.
Until my sister nearly died in a car accident. Her recovery was the wake-up call I needed.
Now, three years later, I've cleaned up my act, sobered up, and finally became the son my father always wished I was - the heir of Van Dorf Media Group.
But being part of one of the most influential families in America has its disadvantages. Like fanatic supremacists trying to kill you.
My father's solution? Hire Alec Bonovich to protect me.
Doesn't matter that he's my ex.
Doesn't matter that just seeing him makes my pulse quicken.
Doesn't matter that he's the only man who's ever broken my heart.
Because Alec is the best.
And he’s the only one I trust to protect me when my life is in danger.

80,000 words.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Stoking the Fire is a riveting bodyguard romance by Teodora Kostova. The first book in the Salus Security series, it's a wonderful second chance tale.

Zach and Alec's romance starts in an easy manner, with everything developing quickly. It had me wondering what was going on, as things seemed too easy.

Other than Zach's anxiety, that is. Being from a famous family, he's in the public eye. And the non stop criticism is drowning him with panic attacks. It's hard to see happen.

And then. Oh man, their separation is devastating.

But after that, things fast forward a few years. Zach's reclaiming his life for himself. He's removed himself from the public eye and goes about mostly unrecognized now. And Alec is no where to be seen.

Until Alec is hired as Zach's bodyguard. Ouch!

Once they're reunited, it isn't easy. There's a lot of unresolved feelings and plenty of things to say. They also have to deal with danger. Worst of all though are all the things Alec doesn't know about.

Good god, Alec is so good for Zach. He saw what social media did to Zach and he is the only one who can get through to him to take care of himself.

This is a tale where Zach essentially can't trust anyone. Except his sister and Alec. And oh man, his sister's situation is heart wrenching.

It's full of twists and turns, both in their relationship and in the danger aspect. It's a political power hungry read with threats, blackmail, and attempted murder.

I love the author's writing style, as well as the depth of her characters and storylines. It's written in first person pov, which is my preference.

Overall, Stoking the Fire is a great second chance romance. Teodora Kostova excels in combining these complicated men and their romance with a lot of danger and a large, ever looming mystery. I'm excited to see what comes next in this series.

A Kind of Forever (Finding Forever #1) by Marie Sinclair

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Ry and Cart were inseparable in college: two innocent kids in love who thought they could take on the world. But when a photograph of the two of them at an LGBTQ protest outed Ry to his conservative family, his parents forced him to leave college and convinced Cart their relationship was something Ry regretted.

Twelve years later, they’re given a second chance.

Since they last saw each other, Cart has moved on. Sort of. He relocated to San Francisco, became a human-rights lawyer, and fell in love again and got married, only to lose his husband to cancer. Still reeling from the loss, he’s devoted himself to the struggling LGBTQ youth center his late husband founded. Then Ry joins the law firm where Cart works. The moment they see each other, Cart can tell Ry’s changed. Gone is the sensuous and enthusiastic lover Cart remembers, and in his place is a man who looks at Cart with disgust. The last thing Cart needs is having to figure out what’s going on with his former lover, but he can’t ignore the strong emotions resurfacing between them.

When Ry returned to his hometown of San Francisco, he knew being near his parents again was going to be a challenge. For twelve years, they’ve been manipulating him with threats of being disinherited and losing his trust fund. It worked when he was younger, getting him to leave college and agree to conversion therapy in the hopes of getting away and returning to Cart. But the camp caused him so much trauma, he can’t even look at another man without experiencing a panic attack. Now his goal is to beat his parents at their own game by pretending to be the dutiful, straight son they want. Two more years, and he’ll succeed. Then he sees Cart again and realizes what really matters to him. He just needs to find a way for Cart to realize it too.

Trigger Warnings: This book contains references to attempted suicide, conversion therapy, depression, and self-harm, as well as depictions of PTSD and panic attacks.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

A Kind of Forever is an emotional and powerful second chance romance by Marie Sinclair.

Way back when, Ry and Cart were dating and in love. Until Ry disappeared without an explanation.

Set in San Francisco, this one is one hell of a read. Ry's past is full of pain and anguish, all caused by his controlling, homophobic parents.

As for Cart, he's now grieving the loss of his husband Sam and helping to save Sam's LGBTQ youth center.

Upon their reunion, the anger and animosity are both intense. What follows is a beautiful tale of regret and forgiveness. It's a tale with family issues, as Ry can't come out to his family. Their story includes panic attacks and so damn many flashbacks to conversion therapy.

In the end, it's an impressive story with explanations, apologies, and acceptance. It's story of trying to deal with one's own past, as well as another's. And I couldn't put it down.

This is a story with plenty of heavy topics and heavy moments. Take note of the trigger warnings and avoid if conversion therapy or attempted suicide is a hard no for you.

The writing flows well, with a great pace. The characters are well developed and their storyline emotional and intriguing. The great thing is, despite all the heaviness involved, the author manages to keep things lighter than one would except.

A Kind of Forever is a stellar read. My first time reading a Marie Sinclair book, I am in love with this one and look forward to reading more from this newish author.

Fight for You (Beyond the Cove #4) by Jaclyn Quinn

Is this a love worth fighting for?

One man is haunted by a past he can’t outrun.
One man is branded by a legacy he can’t hide.
One man is burdened by a guilt he can’t deny.

The usually peaceful town of Riverside Falls has had its very core shaken by traumatic events. Three men find themselves at the center of it all, thrown together by circumstances beyond their control.

Sawyer Levy came to Riverside Falls four years ago to escape from…well…life, but when he finds himself in need of care, he’s forced to trust not one but two men for the first time in years.

Grant Belford is riddled with shame in the tragic aftermath of incidents he didn’t see coming, blaming himself for the terror that rocked his town over the last few months.

Captain Mason Lockley is struggling with the recent events that have shaken up the quiet town of Riverside Falls, tormented by one thought, over and over again: Did he miss the signs because of jealousy?

Having no choice but to lean on each other, the three men suffering with their own demons aren’t expecting to have such an undeniable connection—or to fall so hard. It’s a love they don’t understand, but will they realize it’s worth fighting for?

***Fight for You picks up where Thirst for You left off. Therefore, if you would like to avoid spoilers from Thirst for You, it is suggested you read that book first in order to truly understand what the characters in this book are going through.
***There is a retelling of a violent event from an MC's past. Though it is not told as it’s happening, it may be triggering to some readers.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Fight For You is the fourth book in the Beyond The Cove series. This Jaclyn Quinn read is an exquisite menage romance that picks up where Thirst For You leaves off.

From the start, when the story starts with Sawyer in the hospital, and both Grant and Mason staying by his side, the emotions come out in full force.
Grant's ex girlfriend nearly killed Sawyer, setting the scene for a new dynamic between three men. And, ohhhh...it's delicious!

Mason and Grant are two men who have loved each other for years, but something was always missing. With Sawyer, that missing piece is found. Their story is one of three men who have a lot of issues between them. Anger, resentment, frustration, and guilt. Hurt, regret, attraction, and love. These are three men getting to know one another, scars and all.

Sawyer's panic attacks are well illustrated, bringing them fully to light, pain and all. His background is well developed over time. He's a loveable man when his walls come down. He's been locked in the closet by fear, but he feels the two handsome men knocking on his door. Meanwhile, Grant has spent his life pushing people away, especially Mason.

This is about the importance of wanting to get better. It's impossible to accept the love of others when one doesn't love themselves. "...You're never going to live your own fucking life if you choose to ignore half of it, or if you continue to punish yourself for other people's mistakes."

It's about the impact of denying one is gay.  "You may not be broken, but you're sure as hell not whole...you've taken a huge part of your life and you've tossed it aside."

The author also includes some fantastic secondary characters. I adore Sawyer's parents. Completely adore them. And then there's Liam, who adds immensely to the story. I love poor Liam.

Fight For You is a long journey towards self love and finding one's self worth. Jaclyn Quinn expertly combines comfort/hurt, small town, and second chances in this beautiful story.

Murphy's Law (Havenwood #2) by Riley Hart

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Lawson
We were eighteen when I met Remington Monroe. I’d never seen anyone like him. He got onstage at the coffeehouse, armed with a guitar and corny jokes…but unable to hide his lonely eyes. When he sang, I was entranced. When we spent the night talking together, I knew my world would never be the same.

Remington
Music was my only passion until I met Lawson Grant. Our secret nights together, laughing and loving, were my anchor. My dreams of becoming a musician came true because of him, but in the process of achieving them, I lost Law.

Still, I never stopped missing him. When I can’t stay away any longer, I find myself in Havenwood, Law’s hometown. He isn’t exactly thrilled to see me, and I can’t say I blame him. But our connection is too powerful to be tamed, and soon we’re in over our heads again.

Our feelings for each other have never been in doubt, but we have a lot riding against us. I’m not out, my manager is giving me trouble, my family needs me, and my anxiety is worse than ever. Law’s there for me with his love, support, and a group of friends who accept me into the fold. But he can’t be a secret forever, and I can’t lose him again—even if it means risking it all and jeopardizing what’s always defined me—my music.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Riley Hart's Murphy's Law is an amazingly beautiful second chance, hurt/comfort read.

Lawson and Remy. Swoon. The night that they meet is extraordinary, leaving me madly in love with their connection. As the story progresses, the author alternates between past and present to slowly reveal their history.

Lawson's a small town man, who has always kept his bisexuality a secret. When his ex boyfriend, Remy appears in town, the emotions come out. He's always been effected by his family, who have certain expectations for him.

From the start, I love Lawson. He's clearly broken hearted after walking away from his ex. Unable to live as a second choice to Remy's career, he is still angry, and frustrated by their past.

As for Remy, he's an outstanding character, completely lovable and sympathetic. He's a closeted, famous musician, who struggles with who he is. His whole life is centered around a career which is horrific for someone with social anxiety. It's painful to read about his issues with being in the public.
And then there's the troubling relationship with his family.

Good lord, this story is heavy at times, as the author delves into some series issues. Anxiety, social anxiety, and resulting panic attacks are extremely well explored. I applaud the author for the way these issues are developed throughout.

The title's meaning is beautiful. I may have actually swooned when I discovered it's meaning. Just perfect! Prior to this, I kept wondering where the title fit. Don't worry, it does and it's superb!

Adding to the fun are the continued involvement of amazing secondary characters. I love series like this where previous characters never go away. The sense of family among these men is fabulous! I can't wait to read more of them.

Murphy's Law is classic Riley Hart. The characters are wonderfully complex, and the storyline is as riveting as it is emotional. Best of all, the tone is soothing and comforting throughout this second chance romance. Just read this book next time for looking for some stellar character growth.

Surrender (Wrecked #2) by Kelly Fox

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Blurb

Dark cloud, meet seven-foot wall of sunshine.
We’ve been friends for almost a year, we both volunteer at my brother-in-law’s gym for combat vets, and the chemistry between us is undeniable. So, getting together should be a no brainer, right?
Yeah, not so much.
Pairing up the joyful refugee NBA hero with me—the grumpy wanna-be artist who cracks jokes about being waterboarded—has got to be the mother of all bad ideas.
An even worse idea? Let’s add a splash of kink to the mix.
We’re all going to need a little therapy after this.

Surrender is a post-military, hurt-comfort MM romance with gentle power exchange, a therapy office set next to a sex club, and a gym full of scorching hot head cases.

Review
My Rating - 5 Stars!

Kelly Fox's Surrender, the second book in the Wrecked series, is fabulous. If you haven't yet read Sanctuary, this series revolves around a gym that is for ex-military men. It can be read as a standalone, but is definitely more enjoyable if you've read the first book.

We met Jean-Pierre and Jake in the first book, and are blessed with their story now. Both men have PTSD and a whole slew of painful memories. Their story is emotional, as they slowly get to know each other better, breaking down barriers. They are broken men whose broken pieces ultimately fit together perfectly.

Jean-Pierre's a former NBA player who was married to stay closeted. Unlike many books, his ex wife is actually wonderful and lovable.

Both men like kink, yet Jake can't allow himself to do a lot of his favorite things anymore, making for some intense scenes. There's some breathe play and more, adding a lot of emotion to their sex scenes. The moments of dealing with Jake's panic attacks are mesmerizing, and will bring a tear to your eyes. Luckily for the reader though, in addition to BDSM, there's also a hot docking scene.

The flashbacks are often, the triggers are plenty, and all of it's written with care and understanding. My favorite thing though may just be the level of sweetness involved. Their endearments are adorable, making me smile often.

I love this book. It's written with sensitivity, thoughtfulness, and understanding. As well, the danger is real and the fear is intense. But, best of all is the amazing group of friends and family that are part of this world. The author captures the readers heart with the love, support, and meddling involved. This is a group we'd all want to be a part of.

Surrender is a beautiful comfort/hurt romance. Kelly Fox entertains in this gripping romance. It's an impressive multi-layered romantic read of two men who love hard. You won't regret spending time with these amazing men.

Lazy Sundays (Lazy Days Books #1) by K-lee Klein

Amazon Link - Available in KU

BLURB

Scott Weston’s car is sensible, his suits are bland, and his job is stable but boring. Mundane routine helps keep his anxiety and obsessive tendencies under control. Socializing—especially dating—isn’t on his list of strong skills either, and, made worse with the echoes of his disapproving mother. So he’s content to stay at home with his lists and cleaning and wildlife documentaries, until a one-night stand goes unexpectedly right.

History has taught Devon DuCaine that dating can be uncomfortable, but there’s just something about Scott. He may be the opposite of Devon’s own long-haired, tattooed, free-wheeling spirit but he brings out the nurturer in Devon. Maybe it’s Scott’s surprising fascination with Devon’s motorcycle, or his shy surprise in moments of affection, but there’s more under those sensible suits than meets the eye. The most important person in Devon’s life, his mom, taught him love and compassion and that’s all he wants to share that with Scott.

Their one-night stand turns into a regular thing, but Scott doesn’t trust it to last. He’s pretty sure Devon is hiding something. He’s even more sure that once Devon gets to know him, the attraction will fade. And then there’s his mother. However many sparks fly between them, Devon will have his work cut out to convince Scott they can have their happily ever after.

(This book was first published as 2 short stories, but this new version has double the content from the originals.)

REVIEW
My Rating - 5 Stars!

I am elated to have discovered K-lee Klein's Lazy Sundays! I love these men. I love their story. I love every damn thing about this book!

Scott and Devon are such opposites, with Scott being a geek and Devon being a manly man. When we meet them, Scott is just watching Devon sleep, thinking about how beautiful he is, but also wondering what Devon even sees in him.

Poor Scott, he's so insecure, feeling completely out of Devon's league. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Scott has major anxiety issues and often has panic attacks. Major kudos to the way K-lee Klein wrote this character. She writes Scott with so much knowledge, making him realistic and vulnerable. Scott has OCD and there are so many great examples of this in his story.

Devon, I absolutely adore Devon. I love his secret. I love his friends. And I find his hesitancy to be perfectly developed and explored.

Scott and Devon's tale includes insecurities, misunderstandings, secrets, pain, grief and more. It's fantastic!

But, most memorable of all is the "sleep stalking," as it's so beautiful, touching and sweet. If you haven't read Lazy Sundays yet, treat yourself and read it!
