Two-Man Team (Stick Side #5) by Amy Aislin

One wrongful arrest ruined Kris Xappa’s image—and made his NHL team look bad. Now, with orders to keep his head down, the last thing he needs is to develop feelings for his younger teammate—and best friend’s brother. The fact that he can’t stop thinking about their one illicit kiss doesn’t mean anything.

Rory Stanton is perfectly capable of taking care of himself and doesn’t need his brother’s best friend keeping an eye on him. Sure, he likes having Kris’s attention, but he’d rather have it for entirely different reasons. Too bad that one kiss they shared wasn’t enough to convince Kris to take a chance on him.

When an injury lands Rory in Kris’s care, will these teammates be able to see past the obstacles to become a two-man team?

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Two Man Team is the fifth book in the Stick Side series. This Amy Aislin book is easily read as a standalone.

There's a lot going on in this romance. It's a sports romance featuring two hockey players with a teammates and best friend's brother element.

I adore the relationship between the two. They've known each other growing up, but the age gap was large enough to keep them from hanging out or fully knowing one another. I am an avid fan of this type of story, and this one was as enjoyable as I was hoping.

Rory and Kris are wonderful together. I adore every moment of their story. It's cute, sweet, and emotional. They are a lovable couple for sure, with awesome dynamics between them.

I love that one of the men is pansexual, and the way he talks about it. Love it!

There are some serious elements explored throughout, including the problems of being in the spotlight. The author excels in illustrating the way rumors and stories spread quickly. I appreciate the way she accurately nails that news stories aren't always true, and that public opinion can be based on inaccurate rumors. And, damn it, I love the way the children understand reality better than the adults.

Two Man Team is a fabulous addition to this series. I am a sports romance junkie and absolutely love these Amy Aislin books.

A love story you can live in…

Zach
Brady is my overprotective best friend, and I love him like this. He’s so much bigger than me and makes me feel safe. We are opposites in so many ways, but when I’m cuddled up against him and he reads to me, all those differences fade away. Brady promises to be friends forever, but what will he say when he finds out my secret? Will I lose my best friend and the boy I love more than life itself?

Brady
Zach is so tiny and tenderhearted. All I want to do is protect him from the world. He’s my sweet bookworm and never wants to hurt anyone. I love my best friend, but how do I give him all of me when I don’t understand myself yet? If nothing else, I can shower him with all the acceptance and love he deserves.

Zach and Brady come from completely different social and religious backgrounds, but they don’t let that weaken their friendship. Both teens have to go through a journey of self-discovery, including all the heartaches and joys that come with growing up. As they get older, will they find themselves and how they fit together?

You’re my Home is a sweet and emotional coming of age story. It’s a slow-burn, hurt/comfort, teen best friends to adult lovers romance. There will be tears, laughter, new friends, and steamy lovemaking as Zach and Brady learn the meaning of true acceptance of oneself and others.

**Trigger warnings: domestic violence, trauma, PTSD, and religious homophobia.

My Rating - 5+ Stars!

This book! Oh my god, this book! You're My Home is a debut novel for Katie Moore. And it's mesmerizing, riveting, and all consuming.

This book is long. No question about it. It is detailed, complex, and covers many years. Set plenty of time aside to read this.

This book is serious. Extremely serious. It touches on abuse, family issues, bullying, anxiety attacks, panic attacks, and a connection between two people unlike anything I've ever seen before. It thoroughly explores one's need to define their sexuality, and the elements of demi-sexuality.

This story is that of Brady and Zach, two boys who are worlds apart. But the connection between them is absolute. The first time Brady meets Zach, he knows he is there to help save him. From his father. From the bullies. From the ugliness of the world. And fortunately for Zach, Brady's family feels the same way.

I don't want to go into any details. It's best to just discover them as you read. But the story is amazingly beautiful and touching.

And it's as emotional as can be. Every single moment of this book, every single sentence, is weighed down with emotion. The emotions jump off the pages throughout.

It's a long, ugly, emotional journey for these two. But this is a romance, so ultimately it's no surprise that they eventually get together. I think it's fair to say this isn't a spoiler.

And when they do, oh my god. Seriously, I just can't even begin to explain how torturously emotional the sex scenes are. I thought the emotions carried this story before. But gah! The sex scenes. I've never read anything so full of emotion before.

Just read it.

Their journey starts as kids, carries them through the teen years, and ultimately looks at their futures. It's long. It's detailed. It could easily be a three part series. But it's pure perfection read all together.

You're My Home is absolutely addicting. From the first page, Katie Moore held me hostage with her words. This isn't like my typical review because this isn't a typical book. Zach and Brady grabbed my heart from the very first page and I lived and breathed every single moment of their journey with them. It's a spectacular book.

Special Release Excerpt:

“I want to talk to you.” Dad walks down the hallway to his office, knowing I’ll follow him. I lean against the doorframe, staying just far enough out that Zach will know where I am if he comes back into the kitchen.

Dad sits on the edge of his desk, facing me. “Who were the kids that were being mean?”

“Derek Sanders, the one I asked to leave here when he called Zach a stalker. Along with a few of JV freshman players that I don’t know well.”

“Not surprising, he seemed like a dick.”

My dad doesn’t usually call someone a dick, and it catches me so off guard that an abrupt laugh escapes from my chest.

“What were they making fun of him about?”

“His size…being a fourth-grader…a hobbit. Then they called him queer, and he got up and left.”

“No wonder he was so upset.” Dad rubs the back of his neck, and I realize that I have that same habit when I’m stressed.

“He was upset because he thought it would embarrass me. He never wants to hurt anyone, and when he thinks he’s the cause of it, he can’t handle it.”

“That’s why it makes me livid that someone would hurt him, even with words. God knows the kid has been through enough already.”

I catch movement out of the corner of my eye and turn to see Zach in the kitchen, looking lost. I wave my arm so he sees me, and he smiles. I watch him walk over to help Mom with the ice cream before looking back at Dad.

“He trusts you, Brady. The kind of trust that most people will never give. Be sure to treasure that and not do anything to break it. I’m not sure you could get it back if you did.”

Dad’s words feel heavy, like I need to memorize them and keep them close. “I wouldn’t do anything to break his trust.”

“I know you never would intentionally, but you’re young, and teenagers do stupid things. I think you’re mature beyond your years, and I am so proud of the young man you’re becoming. I’m only cautioning you because I see the bond you have with Zach, and I’m not sure you truly understand what it would mean to lose that. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime kind of friendship…love…and so many go through life searching for what you’ve found so young. Many never find it.”

He walks over to put his hand on my shoulder, squeezing gently. “All I’m saying, Son, is that when it comes to Zach, think before you react and don’t take all the love and trust he gives you for granted. Someday you’ll truly understand the depth and beauty of what he gives you. And what you give him.” His hand moves down over my heart. “You’ve given him a lot of space in here. Take care of your heart, Son, because that boy in the kitchen is most of it.”

I nod, speechless at my dad’s words.

Ashley Kingston is a genderfluid university student with a major crush on attractive and charming Nolan. He seems just too perfect to be true. What happens when Ash meets Nolan while dressed as both a man, and a woman? And even more confusing, what happens when Nolan seems enamoured of both versions of Ash? A twisty-turny romance filled with fun and shenanigans.

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

Weekend Girl is the first book in the Weekend Girl series by Alex Powell. It's a college romance that explores being non-binary and gender fluidity.

Ash is gender fluid, and struggling to find someone who excepts them. They're also struggling to figure out who they are, which is well written.

I don't love the writing style. It just doesn't quite work for me. But I like the storyline a lot.

The author does a great job illustrating some of the issues with being gender fluid, including the fear, the doubts, and the body dysphoria.

Weekend Girl is definitely worth a read when you're in the mood to read about gender issues. Alex Powell takes the reader on an eye-opening and realistic journey of the struggles of gender and sexuality.

Ashley Kingston sat in the bustling Davie Street cafe staring into his—Wait!

No.

Their cup. Their.

They had managed to misgender themself again, and honestly, it was getting old. Realizing they might not be a cis dude was like trying to find a bra that would fit their frame—sometimes it poked them in places not meant to be poked.

Speaking of bras, Ash had two new ones in their bag on the floor next to their feet. Normally, Ash wouldn’t have gone to a store to purchase clothes not meant for men, but their friend Bei Bei had gotten Ash’s measurements and pretended the bras were for her. One was a perfectly sensible beige number, but the other was fire-engine red, at Bei Bei’s insistence. Ash was nervous about trying them on, even when no one else was around, but what were they to do? Progress was progress.

They glanced over at their friend from the corner of their eye. Bei Bei was on her phone texting someone, running her hand through the short hair on one side of her head. Her undercut was brand spanking new.

Still not used to it? Ash frowned. The two of them were both trying something on for size. Bei Bei said she wanted to be the butchest of butch lesbians. She’d gone into the salon and had all of her long black hair cut off just that morning. Ash had watched as Bei Bei transformed before their eyes. What was it like to have long hair?

Ash ran a hand through their own dark-brown hair and sighed. Maybe one day.

“What are you moping for?” Bei Bei demanded. “We just had shopping therapy. I thought for sure you’d be happier now.”

“I’m not unhappy,” Ash started.

“But you are,” Bei Bei finished.

“I was just thinking—” Ash sighed again. “—what it might be like to have long hair, and I just…” They shrugged.

“Is that all?” Bei Bei said. “We can get you a wig.”

“I’m a starving student! As if I could afford a quality wig!”

“It doesn’t have to be expensive,” Bei Bei said. “I’ll help you find something nice but affordable online.”

“Okay,” Ash said, somewhat mollified. “I guess I was just blowing things out of proportion—again.”

“You really need to chill.” Bei Bei patted their arm. “I know, anxiety sucks.”

“At least my meds are somewhat stable. I have a mate back home who can hardly go outside some days.”

Bei Bei nodded sympathetically. The two sat in silence for a few moments, and Ash took a sip of their now-lukewarm London Fog. They licked a bit of foam off their lip. The world went on by outside the cafe window, and Ash watched from their place perched atop a bar-style stool, elbows resting on the counter running along the inside of the window.

“Ooh,” Bei Bei said. “She’s hot.”

A very tall Black girl with bantu knots and long legs walked by outside. Ash nodded. She was very attractive, and her barely there black shorts hugged her hips. Ash, who had known they were pansexual long before they figured out their gender, considered themself an equal-opportunity lover.

That is, when they even had a lover. Ash struggled to keep relationships, and they could never figure out why. It wasn’t a lack of attraction, and Ash enjoyed dating. But something always made the situation go sour.

The girl stopped for the traffic light on Davie and Granville, and Bei Bei and Ash looked on with interest. A loud group of tourists passed by the window, and when the group cleared, the girl looked back at them. Ash pretended to be very interested in the dregs of their drink.

Of course, Bei Bei kept on staring.

The girl turned and came towards them. Ash didn’t know what to do, so it was lucky their attention was on Bei Bei. The girl came into the cafe, making her way to where Ash and Bei Bei were sitting.

“Can I help you?” the Black girl asked.

Bei Bei’s eyes sparkled. “I’ve lost my phone. Do you mind calling it for me?”

The girl’s mouth twitched. “That the best you got?”

“Not by a long shot,” Bei Bei replied.

Bei Bei and the girl, who eventually introduced herself as Ouma, flirted away beside Ash. Ash pretended they had no idea who Bei Bei was, in spite of the fact she was sitting right there next to them.

Bei Bei kept running her hand through her newly shorn hair and biting her lip in obvious signs of attraction. Ouma was standing beside them with her hip cocked, head tilted. Ash looked at their phone and their Twitter page for a bit, waiting for Bei Bei and Ouma to finish with their flirting.

“Bye,” Ouma said, flashing a wave as she walked out the door.

“Oh my god, you are incorrigible,” said Ash as soon as Ouma was out of earshot.

“Got her number though,” Bei Bei smirked.

Ash rolled their eyes.

“You’ve got game, girl.”

“You just need more confidence, Ash,” Bei Bei said. “You’re plenty attractive to those who like enbies.”

The real problem was that Ash didn’t look non-binary. They looked like a cis guy. That could cause them trouble in the long run.

“I guess?” Ash said with another shrug. “I’m mostly worried that… Well. I’m trans. It’s a thing that gets a lot of people killed in a lot of places, especially when it comes to dating and sex.”

“Truth bomb time, I guess.” Bei Bei scratched the side of her head. “It’s hard enough being an Asian lesbian. Being trans is a whole other thing.”

Ash just nodded, tried to take another drink, and grimaced when they found their cup empty.

“I’d date a trans lesbian,” Bei Bei continued. “I know it doesn’t really make me special or anything. But I know of a ton of TERF lesbians who wouldn’t.”

Ash made a face at the mention of TERFs. They had enough to deal with at university without having to listen to some transphobe calling herself a feminist saying that trans people were gross. They felt gross a lot of the time anyway, but it got worse when people started calling trans people trash. Ash’s anxiety always skyrocketed if they saw people arguing on social media about it.

“I just want to find a person who would accept me for being genderfluid,” Ash said. “I’m always worried that anyone I’m interested in will turn out to be one of those binary sex-pushing assholes.”

It happened sometimes on Twitter. Somebody with a cute profile pic turned out to be awful, and it always made Ash angry, but also ashamed in a strange way. They hated that they felt ashamed sometimes of something like their identity, but it was still there sometimes, throbbing in their chest.

“I get it,” Bei Bei said. “I know you gotta be careful. But don’t shut yourself off completely.”

“I guess,” Ash said. “It’s not like I’m even used to thinking of myself as non-binary in the first place.”

“You have to start somewhere,” Bei Bei said.

Ash acknowledged this with a nod. Bei Bei got up to get another iced caramel macchiato, and Ash stared out the window at the people going by. Things were tough right now, so Ash had to be tougher.

His for Hanukkah (Traditions #1) by Reese Morrison

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Most people like vacations. And Christmas. They both make Adam want to scream. And kick things. Anxious, lonely, Jewish, and in serious need of a Daddy, Adam finally loses it in the lobby of his favorite BDSM club--right in front of the guy he's been crushing on.

Tate's been dreaming about Adam for a long time. Trying to pick him up for a scene seemed to scare him away, and he worries that Adam wasn't as accepting of his transgender status as he'd hoped. But when the sobbing boy seeks comfort in his arms, he hopes this can be another chance.

When Tate learns how invisible Adam feels being Jewish during "the holiday season," he sets out to win his boy over by making him his for Hanukkah. He plans to spoil him with eight nights of affection, laughter, and submission, showing Adam that he can be the Daddy that he deserves. But will it be enough for Tate to keep him after the holiday's over?

The Traditions series follows the Jewish calendar in making old traditions new and bringing romance to life. The series features many transgender, genderqueer, and gender-bending characters, as well as BDSM elements. As the series is united by a theme rather than characters, the books may be read in any order.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

His For Hanukkah is a wonderful holiday romance. This Reese Morrison book is the first in the Traditions series.

From the start, I enjoyed the writer's voice, making it easy to get sucked into this story.

Adam and Tate's story has a lot of layers. Adam desperately wants a Daddy in his life. Tate's attracted to the young femme man, but still struggles with being accepted, as he's trans. They're two men with an equal attraction, and some miscommunication in their pasts.

Adam's a brat who's never found his Daddy, till now. I love his brat side when it comes out. And he's about to get the best gift ever - a daddy for Hanukkah.

This is a tale with plenty of heat, lots of emotions, and some tender romance. The sex is hot, with some spanking, a St Andrews cross, and more. But it's the relationship that I love. It develops over the holiday, with the feelings becoming all too real, and it's perfectly beautiful.

One of the overwhelming feelings throughout is that of Tate and his trans status. I love that he finds the man he loves accepts him as is, and actually sees the benefits of Tate being trans.

The author also adds in a lot of information about the history and culture of the Jewish community. It's well done, adding in info here and there, resulting in me learning a lot. As for the Happy Holidays term, the author is spot on.

His for Hanukkah is sweet, with just a little bit of angst, and will leave you excited for the holidays. Reese Morrison definitely had me riveted by these men and their story.

Can't Get You Out of My Bed (Love & Luck #6) by Isla Olsen

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Ben

Aidan Kelly. To everyone else in the world he’s the star of a successful extreme travel show, but to me he’s the one that won’t go away.

It started with one of those typical high school crushes on my best friend’s older brother, which turned out to be not entirely unrequited…

There was that time just after high school where someone (not me) may or may not have hurled all over someone else’s c*ck. Then there was that incident in Austin where…well, let’s just say it gave a whole new meaning to the term ‘bull-riding’. And let’s not forget that little thing with the rental car…

But it doesn’t matter how good the sex is, or how deep the attraction is, Aidan and I are just never going to work. There’s the distance for one, and the fact that one of us (not me) is a closeted celebrity…and that’s all without going into how whenever we’re in the same place we just can’t seem to stop from hurting each other. And not just in the good way…

The only option to maintain my sanity is to avoid Aidan and force myself not to think about him. But that’s easier said than done when—thanks to my best friend’s misguided ‘help’—we end up living in the same freakin’ apartment…

Warning: This book is not appropriate for anyone who doesn’t like laughing, anyone who doesn’t like terrible karaoke, or anyone who doesn’t like when two hella gorgeous guys have a ton of smoking-hot sex as they work through their sh*t to get to their happy ending.

*Happily Ever After included.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Ok, fine, I admit it. I am 100% obsessed with Isla Olsen's Love & Luck series. These books have me addicted and I can't get enough.

With Can't Get You Out of My Bed, this time around we get the romance of Ben and Aidan.

Their story includes a kiss gone wrong, plenty of longing, and years of pinning for one another. These two men have long loved one another, but haven't been able to actually admit their feelings. They have some hot moments over the years, but are never able to talk and figure things out. Some readers won't like this, but I think it's done in a way that makes it okay.

Aidan is pansexual and homoromantic, with only one man ever held in his heart. I enjoy the way this is written.

As with the previous books in the series, the reader is treated to lots of Kelly family fun, some great texts, and plenty of banter.

Written in alternating 1st person pov, the reader is brought into the emotions and actions throughout. Told with some trips to the past thrown in along the way, the reader gets not only the initial kiss, but other moments along the way.

I love, love, love this series. Isla Olsen's Can't Get You Out of my Bed is another amazing read. The Kelly family is the best ever; supportive, loving, and full of hysterical barbs. Everything about them, including Aidan and Ben's story, is a must read if you enjoy fun families and lots of laughs.

Annabeth Albert’s Hotshots series continues—the emotions and intensity of Chicago Fire with the raw, natural elements of Man vs. Wild.

Smoke jumping is Garrick Nelson’s life. Nothing, not severe injuries nor the brutal physical therapy that follows, is going to stop him from getting back with his crew. But when a lost dog shows up on his front porch, he can’t turn her away, and he can’t take care of her on his own. Thankfully, help comes in the form of his new sexy, dog-loving neighbor. As they work together, trying to re-home their little princess, Garrick can’t resist his growing attraction for the other man, even though he knows this guy isn’t the staying type.

Rain Fisher doesn’t take anything too seriously. He dances through life, one adventure at a time, never settling in one place for too long. When his hot, conveniently buff, neighbor shows up on his doorstep, dog in tow, Rain’s determined to not just save the adorable puppy, but her reluctant owner as well. He never expects their flirtation might tempt him into stay put once and for all...

Danger lurks everywhere for Central Oregon’s fire crews, but the biggest risk of all might be losing their hearts. Don’t miss the Hotshots series from Annabeth Albert: Burn Zone, High Heat, and Feel the Fire.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Annabeth Albert's High Heat is a great age gap romance. The second book in the Hotshots series, this story picks up after Garrick's injury in Burn Zone.

The emotions are high in this story where a stray dog brings two strangers together.

Garrick immediately grabbed my heart, with his injury causing him tremendous emotional turmoil. He has been fighting to get back to his smoke jumping career, but a lot stands in his way. The author fully brings to light the mobility issues and accessibility issues involved with one being mostly wheelchair bound. Garrick's rage and pain at not being fully mobile is gut wrenching at times.

And then there's Rain, who's free spirit, hippy personality is the perfect compliment to Garrick right now. Rain's gender fluidity is well written and explored. He's a breathe of fresh air. He likes pink, still loves to be like a princess, but he's drawn to a rugged man. It's a fun character trait and is well carried out. And it ends up that he's incredibly supportive, the perfect one to help heal Garrick's fear of being too needy.

This is story with frustration and pain. It's a story of optimism versus reality and all the baggage that comes with it. The author perfectly nails this issue and I couldn't have been more impressed. Acceptance of one's loss is a large part of this story. It's written with care and compassion and I loved it all.

And then there's Garrick and Rain together. OMG! To say they are hot together is an understatement. There's plenty of flirting and attraction. The author explores dealing with the differences of sex with physical limitations, and then there's some lace. Oh how I love Rain's love of all things soft and sexy. It's delicious fun.

High Heat is a story with plenty of emotions, lots of heat (or high heat as the title would tell you), and a whole lot of character growth. This Annabeth Albert book is wonderful and I definitely recommend it the next time you're in the mood for an opposites attract romance.

Annabeth Albert grew up sneaking romance novels under the bed covers. Now, she devours all subgenres of romance out in the open—no flashlights required! When she’s not adding to her keeper shelf, she’s a multi-published Pacific Northwest romance writer.

Emotionally complex, sexy, and funny stories are her favorites both to read and to write. Annabeth loves finding happy endings for a variety of pairings and is a passionate gay rights supporter.  In between searching out dark heroes to redeem, she works a rewarding day job and wrangles two children.
