No Filter by Nora Phoenix

I am so damn impressed by this book.

No Filter is a story of three very different men, all of whom are damaged in one way or another.

We first meet Indie and Josh when they are in a convenient store together during a robbery.  Indie is disguising himself as a woman.  He is small.  But when he sees Josh freeze up during the robbery, he tackles him to hide him from the robber. He notices that Josh is having a PTSD episode so he does what he has to in order to bring Josh back to the here and now.  He kisses him.

We meet Noah at the hospital. Indie was injured when he was saving Josh and Noah is the PA. Indie is baffled that Noah is keeping the secret that he's not a woman. But Noah is just so damn grateful to Indie for saving Josh's life. Then Noah goes even further to protect Indie by offering to take him back to his house while he's recovering.

All three men have a ton of emotional scars and emotional baggage.  Noah and Indie have physical scars as well. Indie is on the run, hiding from the man who abused him for years.  He is dressing as a woman to help himself hide. Josh is suffering from PTSD and has a difficult time getting by without help from Noah. Noah is in pain.  Physical pain from his prostatic leg.  And only Josh is able to help Noah through this pain.

Josh and Noah have been living together and having sex, but are not a couple. They actually find that the sex helps Noah to get away from his pain for a bit. And Josh needs to be held in order to feel safe. There arrangement has been helping both of them.

But Noah is attracted to Indie, and vice versa. Both are way too damaged to allow themselves to be together without some help from Josh. When all is said and done, Indie is terrified that his abuser will find him and take retribution against him by hurting Josh and Noah.

This is only Book 1 in the series and is left on with us wondering what will happen.  It is not a shocking cliffhanger, but it ends with you wanting the next book.

I am so glad that I finally read this book. Not only have I discovered a wonderful new book, but also a great series and a new-to-me author, Nora Phoenix.

I found myself engrossed by this book from the very beginning.  I find myself instantly drawn into these men and wanting to know what makes them so damaged.  This is not a light-hearted book.  It deals with deep issues and how others can help a person to heal.

When I discover a book like No Filter, I just have to share it.  The author handles these characters with such tenderness and care.  It is beautiful to see how each man could help the others to start to recover from their pasts.  It is truly a wonderful story.  If you haven't read it yet, please, please check it out!
