My Rating - 5 Stars!
The Secrets We Keep is one of those books that make me elated to have not read the blurb before reading it. This Andrew Grey book is a true delight, but be warned, this story is a heavy topic. .
Jasper meets Rob through a mutual loss, which is super upsetting. A connection between the men leads to a sweet long distance relationship, as the two slowly get to know one another. Personally, I love that they got to know one another slowly, without the physical attraction forcing things quicker.
What follows is a tender story of finding love through grief. It includes a man who's always longed for love, who's longed to be seen. It includes a whole lot of secrets that cause hurt and despair. There is so much pain and confusion as some secrets are unveiled.
Damn, Jasper is such a confused man, one who experienced so much pain in his life. The reader can't help but to sympathize for him. I enjoy the differences between the men, both their age, life experiences, and economic status. This sets them up for an interesting relationship.
As I've come to expect from Rick Reed, the writing is beautiful, flows wonderfully, and the storyline is superbly touching. I love the character development and am elated by the wonderful epilogue. Rick does a fabulous job of creating men who are relatable and realistic.
This story includes some wonderful lines, including the following -
"We only regret the things we didn't do."
"You might lose, but you won't know unless you try."
And best of all is, "We can never truly know someone inside and out, can we? We all keep secrets, don't we?"
The Secrets We Keep is a powerful story that shows the importance of telling someone you love them. I absolutely love this book and highly recommend it.
Thanks so much for the wonderful review. I truly appreciate it. One small favor, though. The second line of the review calls it an "Andrew Grey" book--could you please change that? Andrew is a great writer, too, but he's in no way associated with this book. Thanks!
