Blurb

After the Syracuse Stallions clinch the championship, Nathan Zinkan, the renowned wild man of the AHL is arrested for a DUI. Again. When a no-nonsense judge adds a heavy dose of community service to an already stiff sentence, Nathan has to forget a summer of partying and slide on a pair of gardening gloves. His entire future now rides on how well he can behave while helping elderly urban gardeners tend to their tomatoes.

Watching local garden center owner Bran Cavanaugh working without his shirt is a benefit he wasn’t expecting. Pity Bran is also the one in charge of the community garden as well as keeping tabs on Nathan’s hours served. The two men are instantly at odds due to Nathan’s rebellious nature and Bran’s icy demeanor. Yet there’s no denying the attraction that begins to build between the hot-headed athlete and the cool as a cucumber master gardener.

Will their attraction grow into something deeper, or will it wither and die on the vine?

My Rating - 5 Stars!

The Good Green Earth, the third book in the Colors of Love series, is another VL Locey winner!

Nathan
is a typical hockey player who likes to party too much. Unfortunately he also likes to drive drunk. Sent to do community service, he ends up at Bran's farm, leading to the two finding love.

It took me a while to like Nathan, as his attitude is definitely his downfall. But with the help of Bran and a couple others, his whole world changes. Nate's character growth is wonderfully developed, leaving him as a loveable and sympathetic character.

I enjoy the age gap, and the stability that the older Bran has to offer to Nathan. And for Bran, this is a beautiful story of a getting a second chance at love. Their story includes a whole lot of grief for both men; one for his brother and one for his lover.

This story includes a great exploration of alcoholism. I appreciate that the author shows someone who likes to party, and doesn't realize that that is his crutch. Far too many people fall into alcoholism this way. I find this to be written with understanding and compassion. There's also an amazing discussion about making amends.

Then there's Nate's family issues which are tragic, heartbreaking, and emotional. At it's heart, it's a completely tender and emotional tale of healing and love. The two men come together through their shared loss, as they understanding each other through their shared experiences.

I have so much more I want to say, but I don't want to give everything away. Just trust me, it's a wonderful and memorable book. And once they do get together, they are amazingly hot. My favorite is probably the magnificence of the bed scenes, as they are so damn emotional.

As with every VL Locey book, the writing is wonderful, with fantastic characters and a smooth flow. I always enjoy them and look forward to reading each one. I love the multi layered characters and the wonderful storylines.

I always love a good hockey story, and The Good Green Earth is just that. I enjoy Nate and his desire to get called up to the NHL. And I respect everything he has to go through for his career. Luckily for the reader, this VL Locey book is also so much more. Read it. It's wonderful.
