The Fire (Love in O'Leary #4) by May Archer

Blurb

JAMIE

Parker Hoffstraeder is gorgeous, cocky, and totally irrational. He also broke my heart when he left town eleven years, four months, and twenty-eight days ago.

Not that I’m counting.

I don’t mind admitting it: I was young. I got burned. I learned my lesson.

But the guy swaggers back into O’Leary like he owns the damn place and suddenly I’m expected to welcome him to my town — to my life — like nothing’s changed?

Yeah, that I mind.

It’s only a matter of time until he’s gone again. And there’s no way I’ll give him a chance to take another piece of me when he goes.

PARKER

Jameson Burke is the most arrogant, infuriating human on the planet. He’s also taller, broader, and impossibly hotter than he was before I left town.

But, whatever. It’s fine. I can handle it.

Coming back to O’Leary was supposed to be like coming home. I hadn’t realized that there’s no statute of limitations on how long your first love and former best friend is allowed to hate your guts, or how much bad luck can befall a person in a short time.

But, I can handle that, too… or at least pretend to.

When Jamie and I are thrown together in a blizzard, though, everything changes in the space of one single, scorching night. Suddenly, I’m dreaming of a future I can’t have, and he’s stuck in a past he can’t let go. It feels like we’re playing with fire...

And this time I’m the one who’s gonna burn.

Review
My Rating - Stars!

May Archer's Love in O'Leary series is amazing. The fourth book, The Fire, is the feel-good second chance romance of Parker and Jamie.

Awww, Jaime and Parker. We've seen the anger between these two in prior books, and now we finally get to understand these men, as well as see them move forward.

Parker's stuck without a home after his bar burnt down. He's homeless, and waiting for the insurance claim to be settled. Jamie, meanwhile, is stuck in a rut, with a boyfriend he doesn't really have feelings for, and unable to get ahold of his emotions.

When they run into one another the anger and tension are rolling off these men. The banter is riveting, as these two men end up stuck together for a bit. As we all know, anger only happens when we're passionate about something. And, damn, the passion...

What follows is an amazing story as these two hurt men learn to open up to each other, mend fences, and give into their hearts. This is truly a story of getting over the past and moving forward.

"Sometimes things that shouldn't matter seem to matter a whole heck of a lot."

And omg, the memory box! Swoon.

Although The Fire can be read as a standalone, you definitely want to read these books in order. The author expertly develops the readers interest in characters throughout, leaving us completely invested in the men before we even get their stories.

The writing is fantastic, full of heart, humor, and a whole lot of romance. There's heartache, drama, and an abundance of love.  Every single word is written with purpose and adds to the story. I love every single moment.

I love the sweet and gentle humor of these small town folks. You definitely get to know them all well, and get a up close feel for the town.

Overall, I can't recommend The Fire and May Archer's entire Love in O'Leary series enough. This is a beautiful story, with the only downfall being that it left me with a major book hangover.
