Captivating (Elite Protection Services #2) by Onley James

Blurb

Jayne Shepherd has spent his life blending in. He smiles. He laughs. He’s likable. He’s also a sociopath. His emotions are limited. Love, fear, desire don’t exist in his world. Until he meets Elijah.

Elijah Dunne had everything. Third generation Hollywood royalty. Child star. Untouchable. Until one man ruined it all. Elijah fled LA to try to forget, but now, he’s back on top and back on a monster’s radar. Elijah doesn’t think he’ll ever feel safe. Until he meets Shepherd.

Elijah and Shep only have one thing in common. They both wear masks. Shep makes Elijah feel protected. Seen. Elijah makes Shep just feel. Now that he’s had a taste, he’s not about to let him go.
Everybody warns that what they have isn’t real. Shep is obsessed with Elijah, not in love. But Elijah craves Shep’s obsession. He can’t imagine life without him. In Hollywood, being a sociopath is more a life skill than a diagnosis. Could Shep be the monster Elijah needs to finally slay his demons?

Review
My Rating - 5 Stars!

Onley James' Captivating is an outstanding bodyguard romance.

This is the story of Elijah, who's an actor, and Shep who's hired as his bodyguard. Elijah's an actor who's still young but is full of demons. He has a past that's painful, and some threats against him.

Damn, Elijah's past is gut wrenching. With a past full of hurt and pain, Shep finds himself set on protecting him and getting revenge for Elijah.

And oh man, the attraction and chemistry is off the charts. They are two men who have no experience with sex, who end up learning and experimenting with each other. Shep's sexual awareness is a great read, as he never really wanted or understood sex. Until now. He never experienced want or need before. And Elijah finds himself suddenly wanting to be touched and held. Omg, it is so good!

The depth of Elijah's character mixed with Shep's lack of ability to read social cues makes for a fascinating read. These are two seriously complex characters.

Shep. Wow, Shep. A man without emotions, a man who never feels connections, his character development is outstanding. I am extremely impressed with the way the author portrays his mental issues.
This line by Shep perfectly sums up their relationship. "I might not understand love or hate, but my body understands yours. My body responds to you...only you." Wow!

Honestly, this  whole story just blew me away. The complexity of the characters is undeniable, the strength of the story is magnificent, and the emotions involved are plenty.

Once again, like in Intoxicating, the author doesn't hold back and tackles a tough, multi-layered issue with heart and compassion.

There's a lot going on in Captivating. I don't want to ruin it for anyone, so I just want to say, read it! You will not be disappointed.
