Forced to move from place to place, never setting down roots, robbed Scott Thayer of any thread of stability during his childhood. No matter how hard he tried, he could never please his distant and judgmental father. If his own father couldn’t love him, who could?
Two years after last setting eyes on the man whose approval he’d never win, he’s found a good life, attending college, become a star on the wrestling team, built a home with his lover Derek, and surrounded himself with people who love him.
An unexpected note from his father, saying, “I want to see you,” turns Scott’s world upside down. Why, after all this time, does the man want back into his life, just when Scott’s wounds have begun to heal? Should he risk his happiness and peace of mind to accept the invitation from someone who’d left him so damaged?
Or will he finally find closure and slam the door on his pain and never look back?

DH Starr's Wrestling With Hope is a wonderful continuation of the Wrestling series. The 5th book in the series, it is easily read as a standalone.
Scott's dating Derek, but he's still dealing with his own emotional issues. Long estranged from his father, he's still suffering from the effects of this. He feels unworthy, has low self esteem and now his father wants to see him. This brings a whole lot of confusion into Scott's life.
Suddenly facing issues from his past. Soon he's stuck dealing with forgiveness and the knowledge that life is fragile. He embarks on a long and agonizing journey towards reconciliation and healing.
This is a touching story of reconciliation. It's definitely a story of hope, as it explores the power of hope, the strength of hope, and the fear involved with having hope.
Although Scott's interactions with Derek are a large part of this tale, a large focus is on Scott's relationship with his father.
Derek is the one who brought Scott to this place in his life. He's the one that's given him faith and strength. He's the one who truly loves Scott and anchors him. Already an established couple, they continue to be everything for one another. Not a romance per say, this part of their story involves some family issues, college wrestling, a sick father, and more.
Wrestling With Hope is a great story of hope and second chances. It's a beautiful story of sacrifice, of forgiveness and love. It's a tender tale of reevaluating one's priorities. Now, I'm left hoping that Zane will get a book.
