Sound of Silence by Mia Kerick & Raine O'Tierney

Blurb

High school senior Renzy Callen hasn’t uttered a word in years. He likes being invisible to all around him; it keeps life safe and predictable. In his attic bedroom, he experiences a world far from the drama of his family. He doodles, listens to music, and contemplates the troubled souls he observes when attending self-help meetings designed for people with problems he doesn’t have. Renzy lives his life like a spectator, always on the outside of life’s games, looking in at others.

Everything changes when Seven and Morning Moreau-Maddox relocate from their glitzy lives in Paris to boring, picturesque Redcliff Hills, Missouri. Tall, platinum blond, and as put-together as a pair of European high-fashion models, the sophisticated siblings befriend Renzy, drawing him in and then pushing him away. What starts as nothing more than a means to an end for Seven, however, quickly becomes something more. Could icy-hearted Seven be thawing for the silent, quirky charm of Renzy Callen?
Determined to find the cause of Renzy’s selective mutism, the three teens set off on a road trip, during which they discover that flawless physical facades can conceal the most scarred souls, and that sometimes silence is better than golden.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Mia Kerick and Raine O'Tierney's Sound Of Silence, is an amazing and powerful story.

At it's heart, this story is an excellent exploration of the power of silence. Renzy has selective mutism, and the authors wonderfully illustrate how he communicates with the world. It's a fascinating and thought provoking story. How often do we sit in silence? How often do we think about remaining silent?

This is the story of a boy who has always felt invisible. When he's suddenly "seen" by Morning and her brother, Seven, amazing changes begin to take place. The way they can communicate without speaking is mesmerizing. With his new friends, Renzi ends up on a journey towards reconciliation with his past.

Their story is one of pain and hurt, past abuse, and carries a very serious tone. It's so much more than I could have ever expected. There's a sad and melancholy feeling throughout, but don't let that stop you from checking out this book.

Sound of Silence is a unique, powerful, and extremely touching story. I can't possibly do it justice. I couldn't put it down, having to finish it in one sitting. Do yourself a favor and read this book when you're looking for an amazing and serious read.
