Colette Davison's Broken is an accomplished romance. An avid fan of Colette Davison, I've enjoyed each of her books I've read and they just keep getting better.
It didn't take long for me to fall for Jag and Michael. Wow, they are just amazing together, melting my heart, and leaving me wanting even more of them. Jag's been living his life lying and pretending, on the run and hiding. When Jag's hired as the new dancer at Michael's club, he has no idea how dramatically his life is about to change. Michael, meanwhile, is at a standstill since his ex died, unable to move forward, but undeniably attracted to the younger man.
Jag's such a wonderful man. Broken and always running, he's never able to get comfortable or make friends. But, in Michael, he finds someone he aches for, and with whom he's desperate to allow into his life. Jag's hesitant to be with him as he knows it can't last. But he can't say no, as he wants to grab hold of the one thing that brings him happiness.
I love how understanding and caring Michael is and that he makes Jag feel happy and safe. They're so tender and loving with each other. And, damn, the chemistry between the two is exceptional. They're hot and steamy together, full of intense want and need that you can feel leaping off the pages.
The descriptions of the dancing and of Jag dressed in glitter for his dancing are fun and atmospheric. Heck, what's not to love about a dancer in glitter?
Their story involves therapy, meds, and drugs. There's talk of conversion therapy as well, so avoid this one if those are triggers for you.
There's an age difference between the two men, which is interesting in what they each bring to the relationship. More important, however, is the extreme change in both men at the end of the book. The transformations and personal growth are inspiring and superb.
The writing's phenomenal, with multi-layered characters, a remarkable storyline, and important topics. Jag's character is definitely impressive, as he's complex and challenging to write. But, the author does so with such care, compassion, and skill, allowing the reader to fully become engrossed in Jag's thoughts.
Broken's a beautiful story of finding someone worth taking a chance on; someone who can help you stop running. A story of allowing oneself to bet on love, and believing things can change. It's completely emotional, compelling and riveting, and I highly recommend it.

“I need to say a few things,” Michael said, pausing as he felt Jag stiffen. “I need to be honest with you.”
“No.” Jag’s hand pressed against Michael’s mouth, no doubt transferring silver smudges to his lips. “I’m happy with the lie you told me last night.”
Well, at least Michael knew he definitely hadn’t fooled Jag. Gently, he moved Jag’s hand away from his mouth. His hand became coated in a sparkling silver sheen.
“I’m not.”
Jag clenched his teeth.
“I care about you,” Michael said. “And I can’t pretend otherwise.”
“You don’t know me,” Jag hissed.
“Don’t I?”
Jag became even more rigid, his muscles so hard beneath Michael’s fingers he felt like a statue as well as looking like one.
“I don’t have to know about your past to know who you are now.”
About the Author
Colette’s personal love story began at university, where she met her future husband. An evening of flirting, in the shadow of Lancaster castle, eventually led to a fairytale wedding. She’s enjoying her own ‘happy ever after’ in the north of England with her husband, two beautiful children and her writing.
