How to Catch a Vet (Chester Falls #6) by Ana Ashley

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

The first thing I learned at Vet school was to always expect the unexpected.
Well, I sure never saw Santiago Torres or his adorable Great Dane coming.

Santi is everything I’m not. Tall, confident, overbearing, and if I’m to believe his advances, he’s also very experienced in...well, you know what.

I always play safe, but it’s time to ditch the v-card. We couldn’t be more different, but that doesn’t matter because this is just a one time thing.

I’m not going to want more, right?
I’m not going to fall for him, right?

How to Catch a Vet is the sixth book in the Chester Falls series and features an opposites attract story between a virgin and a player, a Great Dane with a tendency to rescue- read kidnap- other people’s pets, and a small town like no other.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

How to Catch a Vet is the sixth book in Ana Ashley's Chester Falls series. It's a great addition to this small town world.

This story is one of a vet and a veteran. And there's a lot going on.

Santi is home after leaving the service. And unfortunately, he's losing his eyesight. Oh man, this element had me wanting to hug him tight. My heart breaks for him throughout, despite his ability to handle it well.

Micah's a veterinarian who's struggling to keep his business going. Course he has a former bully who's set on making his life difficult, which doesn't help.

Their story is one with a lot of self doubts. Santi doesn't feel worthy of love as he's losing his sight, while Micah feels unworthy of love as he struggles with his weight.

Their story includes first times and plenty of heat.

And then there are the animals. Omg, I absolutely love these animals and the constant new additions to the crew. Honestly, this aspect alone makes this worth the read.

With an overall theme exploring that the past doesn't define us, I am impressed with the way the author illustrates this. This story is compelling and emotional throughout.

How to Catch a Vet is a sweet romance. Ana Ashley kept me entertained and delighted throughout this heartwarming tale.

Goodreads Link

Forecast: (noun)
A calculation or estimate of future events, especially coming weather.
See also: Liam “I'm Always Right” Wright.

Not your typical Daddy. Not your typical boy.
Not your typical fake relationship.

Hudson Madden looks like the kind of guy you don’t want to piss off—he’s a walking wall of muscle, brightly tatted ink up both arms, and low grunts. But underneath it all, he’s a gentle giant. One who can’t find what he wants because of the assumptions people make:

He must be an alpha.
He must be a dominant Daddy.
He must be looking for a sweet, passive boy.

The truth is more complicated. Haunted by memories of a former lover, and interested in exploring types of sex that aren’t easily defined, Hudson is happy to harbour his innocent crush on the local weatherman.

Until said weatherman crush walks into Hudson’s gym and turns his life upside down.

Liam “I’m Always Right” Wright. It might be a cute catchphrase, but when it comes to love, Liam is always wrong.

Liam hasn’t got time for love. He’s got his sights set on the big time, becoming a prime time meteorologist on a major national TV station. He’ll do anything it takes to get the promotion, even if it means entering into a fake relationship to improve his chances.

A quick-fix, no-mess solution.

So why does it feel so right when Hudson looks at him, spends time with him, and gets to know him in a way that no one ever has?

Will Hudson be able to break down his walls and let Liam in? And when forced to choose between his career and love, will Liam be able to make the right choice?

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Casey Cox's Forecast is the third book in the 99 Daddies series. Like the others, it's a great read. It does start slow though, taking a while for things to get going.

Liam and Hudson's story is far from typical. The two meet at Hudson's gym, with Hudson long having a crush on the handsome weatherman. Sounds typical. But, both men are intriguing characters, fully experienced with loss and pain. And together their story isn't anything like what's normally written.

The gym is a good meeting place for the men, as the buff and tough Hudson helps the not so buff Liam to work out. It bring out the issues of body confidence, as Liam isn't comfortable with his body. The way that this carries out is wonderful, as Hudson is one who isn't all about his lovers having a buff body.

The fake relationship aspect is well done. I enjoy why and how the relationship comes about, as well as is carried out. And if you enjoy fake relationships where the lines become blurred and they fall in love, you will love this one. The development of their emotions is sweet.

And then there's the sexual aspect. It's a wonderful tale of sexual exploration between two men who aren't interested in the sexual norms. Hudson is a side, and with Hudson's help Liam is able to discover the beauty of sex. Their first times are hot, as well as emotional, including crowning and tantra scenes. Liam's sexual awakening through some sexual experimentation is touching for sure.

As well, this is far from your typical Daddy romance. In fact, one could easily read the whole book and never take note of the daddy role at all. When the author states Daddy-lite, they aren't kidding.

The writing is great. Yes, the start is slow. Yes, I almost stopped reading. (Which is why I had to rate it a 4.) But I am thrilled I didn't. The characters are extremely interesting and likeable, and their storyline is heartfelt, with some unique issues. Then add in some conflict, and by the end, the emotions are jumping off the pages.

Forecast is far from your average romance. Casey Cox excels in bringing a beautiful and touching romance to his fans, all with some of the non-traditional sex preferences. I love it this great tale of love and acceptance.

Big (99 Daddies, #2) by Casey Cox

Big: (adjective)
Large, as in size, height, width, or amount.
See also: Nick "Big Boy Energy" Macklin.

A Daddy who has everything money can buy...
Except the one boy he can’t have.

You’ve never met a boy like Nick Macklin. He’s an enigma, wrapped in warm cinnamon pastry, wearing a belly-exposing tank top. He’s two hundred and forty pounds of confident, cocky, curvy yumminess.

He’s proud of his body and proud to be a big boy. He’s also loud, unfiltered, loyal, and fiercely independent. In other words, everything smart, successful, sexy silver fox Daddy Steel Crawford has ever wanted in a boy.

There’s just one problem: Nick thinks Steel’s a jerk.

One of those guys that can get what he wants, simply because he’s a man with the means to afford it. Steel might be a self-made man, and able to catch Nick’s eye—but that doesn’t guarantee he’ll automatically be able to capture Nick’s heart.

Even if he is a super successful lawyer who runs his own law firm.
Even if he is as kind as he is rich, and a genuinely decent guy.
Even if his light blue eyes, silver mane, and sculpted body have earned him the title of one of Daylesford’s Most Eligible Daddies...three years running

Steel is a Daddy who can buy anything he wants, but will Nick be the one thing he can’t have?

◆◆◆BIG
Big is a Daddy-lite enemies-to-lovers gay romance featuring a one-in-a-million big boy being pursued by a sexy silver fox Daddy.

Come along for the ride and enjoy some crazy/sexy/cool shenanigans including: sexy go-go dancers, erotic cake-sitting, a scene-by-scene recreation of an iconic '90s flashmob, plenty of zingy one-liners, a crew of sassy friends, lots of LOLs, and all the feels on the way to a heartwarming HEA.

Big is the second book in the 99 Daddies series. Each book in the series will contain overlapping characters and storylines, so you may enjoy them more by reading them in order.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Casey Cox's Big, the second book in the 99 Daddies series, is a fun romance.

Steel's a daddy without a boy. He desperately wants a boy, but he really wants that boy to be sassy. And, damn, he wants to discipline that sass.

In Nick, he finds just the boy he wants. Nick's a dancer who's snarky, funny, flashy, and full of sass.

Their story has plenty of BDSM and kink talk, including wet and messy play. It's definitely a new thing to me, having never heard of it before. But, dear god, the aftercare scene is wonderful. It's seriously beautiful. This alone is worth the read.

Their tale is one with a hookup that's meant to be a one off. It's a tale with assumptions and some miscommunication, or more like, lack of communication.

For these two, mutual friends aspect is a big deal. It helps them run into one another. But it also causes some worry. And, damn, Nick really doesn't like Steel at the beginning. There's also plenty of internal conflict, as they don't want to cause issues with their friends.

As far as the title is concerned, Nick is a plus sized person. There's a lot of discussion about it, including that shame that comes with being overweight.

It's a entertaining read, with Steel's strong and intense feelings for Nick. It's cute and sweet as he tries to heal Nick's broken heart. Most of all though, I enjoy the exploration of kinks and the admittance of one's desires, which makes for a great scene.

I continue to like the writing style. The characters are well developed, with great dialogue. I enjoy the side characters and the internal monologues. And the conflict is well done.

Overall, Big is an interesting romance. Casey Cox definitely hits some unique factors with this story, which is a must read if you enjoy great aftercare scenes.

Marry Me (Tattoos and Temptation #1) by Mia Monroe

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

A fake fiancé never felt so real.

The idea of facing my cheating ex at a friend’s upcoming wedding sends me right back to the chubby, insecure guy I was when I met my very straight best friend. Since then Jude has been the most supportive person in my life. So when I ask him for a favor, he steps up and becomes the best fake fiancé a guy could ask for.

With three months before the big day, my friends rally to make sure we come across as authentic as possible. Jude takes to the lessons better than any of us anticipated. Especially the kissing.

Now the fake engagement is starting to feel kind of real.

This wedding should be really interesting…

Marry Me is a steamy, best friends to lovers, fake fiancé, gay awakening, low angst story. It is book one in the Tattoos and Temptation series featuring hot Miami nights, Latin desserts, and guys with ink.

It can be read as a standalone.

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

Marry Me, the first book in the Tattoos and Temptation Series, is a fun fake boyfriend romance by Mia Monroe.

If you enjoy friends to lovers romances, this story is right up your alley. It's a GFY sexual awakening for Jude, as playing pretend boyfriend to help out his bestie Briar leads to some new found feelings.

I adore sexual awakening tales, and this one is definitely a good choice, as it's sweet and low angst. The friendship between the men is strong from the start, and as the sexual exploration begins, the friendship just gets stronger.

It's a story of self worth and confidence, and a story of discovering some past events are not quite what they seemed.

Written in present tense, this wasn't always an easy read for me. It was definitely distracting for me. Because of this issue, it definitely wasn't the gem for me that it would have been otherwise.

Marry Me is a combination of best friends, roommates, fake boyfriend, sexual awakening, and friends to lovers. Mia Monroe does a great job including a whole lot of sweetness into this story.

Synopsis

Caden DeSarro is what they call a chubby chaser. He likes his guys with a few extra pounds on them. So when he meets Kevin Dodge in a bar bathroom, he can’t help but stare. As far as Caden is concerned, Kevin is physically perfect: a stocky bearded blond. But Caden gets tongue-tied and misses his chance.

When Caden runs into Kevin one night on the el train, he figures it’s fate offering him a second shot. Caden manages to get invited back to Kevin’s place for a one-night stand that turns into the kind of relationship he’s dreamed about.

But the course of true love never runs smoothly—Kevin and Caden’s romance is no exception. When Caden returns from a few weeks away on business, Kevin surprises him with a new and “improved”
body—one that fits Caden’s shallow friend Bobby’s ideal, but not Caden’s. Caden doesn’t know what to do, and his hesitation is just the opportunity Bobby was looking for.

Review
My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

I knew going into Rick Reed's Chaser that I tend not to love books that focus on body type. That said, most books actually tend to do that. Afterall, many of us are only attracted to certain body types.

I like Caden and am okay with him liking chubby men. Meeting Kevin definitely seems like a great thing. But his confusion over not feeling the attraction when Kevin loses weight is so damn sad. It is a tough read for me, emotionally painful and draining.

But in the end, this is a touching story. It will make you happy, sad, and angry. Bobby is one vile man for sure, adding a whole lot of emotion to the story.

The writing is fabulous, the characters well rounded, and the storyline interesting. I enjoy the character growth in Caden, as he figures out what he really wants.

Overall, Chaser is a good book. The storyline is riveting, but I am rating a 4 since it just isn't my favorite theme.

Chapter One

“I like fat men.”

“You like big butts?”

“I cannot lie.”

Caden and his therapist laughed together over the song reference, both old enough to remember Sir Mix-A-Lot’s 1992 rap hit “Baby Got Back.” Camille D’Amico reined in her laughter abruptly, pushing her tortoiseshell glasses back up on her nose and fussing with her frizzy halo of brown hair. She adopted a serious expression. “So you’re attracted to heavier men. Is that a problem?”

“Not really a problem, I guess. It’s just that I wonder why. I mean, look at me.”

Caden stood up, turned around slowly, and sat back down in the comfortable overstuffed chair facing Camille. He knew what he was displaying—a very trim, tight five-foot-eleven frame upon which not
even an ounce of fat rested. In the dictionary, if one looked up the word “lean,” there was Caden’s picture, the perfect illustration. He rubbed his hands over his black buzz cut and then brought one hand down to the stubble of his just-coming-in beard. Not only was he very fit, he was a very handsome thirty-year-old man.

“What?” Camille asked. “You think you’re too good for a guy with a few extra pounds on his frame? Think you’re slumming if you take a walk on the fat side?”

Caden shook his head and put up his palms in self-defense. “No, no, that’s not it at all. I don’t think I’m better, not by any stretch. I’m just wondering why, lately especially, I’ve been drawn to heavier men.”

“Is this something new for you?”

“Not really, but it’s only something  I’ve been acting on in the past few months. I have this friend, Bobby, who I usually go out with and he’s, well, he can be kind of superficial…” Caden’s voice trailed off as he thought of his gorgeous friend, who looked a lot like the porn star, Dawson, with a trim build, cut abs, closely shorn auburn hair, and luminous gray eyes. The difference between Bobby and Dawson was that Bobby was much choosier than Dawson, although perhaps no less promiscuous—no mean feat when one considered one of Dawson’s films was entitled Dawson’s 50-Load
Weekend. Anyway, this session was supposed to be about Caden, not Bobby. “And he always gives me a hard time about wanting to meet, as I said, heavier men.”

“And this Bobby’s opinion is important to you?”

“He’s my best friend.”

“Important enough that you would alter going after what you really want for him?”

Camille’s question stopped him short. He’d never really thought of it that way. Why did it matter what Bobby thought? So what if he didn’t approve of the bearded redhead he met online and invited
over last week? And what business was it of Bobby’s if he liked to peruse the profiles at footballplayerbuild.com?

Obviously, it bothered him enough to bring it up here today with Camille, whom he had been seeing for the past three weeks. His visits to her were his thirtieth birthday present to himself. He hoped to figure out why, at age thirty, he had yet to find a relationship that lasted more than three dates.

He had begun wondering if there was something intrinsically wrong with him. He was a good catch—at least that’s what his mother told him—but on paper, he did look good. No one could argue
with that. He was handsome, having inherited his mother’s Sicilian olive complexion, black hair, and eyes that ranged from amber to green. His nose was strong, patrician, some might say (his mom again, anyway). He wasn’t a bodybuilder, but years of running four to six miles four to six days a week, along with summertime lakefront bike rides, had given him a good, solid build.

And it wasn’t just in the looks department where he thought he had a lot to offer. He had a good head on his shoulders. That he got from his late father, who had been a fully tenured professor of English literature at Northwestern University in Evanston before passing away unexpectedly one morning in the bathroom of a heart attack. That same head on his shoulders had given him, if not a stellar job, a solidly respectable and reliable one as a copywriter at a medical association in downtown Chicago. He had been there since graduating from Northwestern nine years ago, starting out as an editorial assistant on one of their trade journals.

So why did he feel the need to try to apply the same standards Bobby applied to his own dates, standards that could be summed up by Bobby with the initials FG, which stood for “fucking gorgeous”? If a man was not FG, so Bobby’s rationale went, he was not worth fucking.

Sometimes Caden wondered why he had Bobby as a best friend. But he could be hilarious at times, and he could be a lot of fun. Caden on his own in a bar was a wallflower, but with Bobby, some of
his charm and charisma, the devil-may-care attitude, rubbed off on Caden.

Plus, going out with Bobby usually meant he would hook up with one of Bobby’s FG prospects’ fucking gorgeous friends. Because, as Bobby always said, “The hot ones travel in packs.”

Caden shook his head and looked at the therapist, who was sitting patiently, waiting. “What did you ask me again?”

“I asked you if Bobby’s opinion was more important to you than getting what you want.” Camille cocked her head.

“No, no, of course not.” He answered too quickly.

“You know,” Camille said, “I’m like what’s in your own head. There’s no need in here to try and come up with what you think is the right answer. No need to censor yourself. Do I need to remind
you there’s no judgment here?”

“No.”

“So, I won’t ask you about Bobby’s opinion again, but I do want you to think about your answer.”

“Why?”

“Because you brought up your attraction to heavy men for a reason.” Camille shrugged. “It doesn’t matter so much what the reason is, so much as it matters what you think about it. Look, people are
attracted to other people for all sorts of reasons, and there’s no right or wrong way to be attracted. Take my mother—please!” Camille laughed. “Ever sincemy father passed away a few years ago, she’s been all about younger men. And I am not talking forties and fifties here. I’m talking about much younger, your age, Caden, and even in their twenties. Mom’s sixty, but she’s a knockout.”

“Cougar?” Caden asked.

“Use that word around her and you might get your eyes scratched out. Anyway, my point is that it’s what she likes, and even though I did question it at first, especially when she was having me meet
guys who were younger than I was, it wasn’t my call to make. Attraction is subjective—totally.”

“You’re right.”

Camille laughed. “I’m not looking for affirmation. I just want to understand why you chose to bring up this particular attraction with your therapist.”

And Caden realized he’d like to know the reason himself. If he could only get a handle on it, a love handle, if you will. He shook his head, censoring his inner Kathy Griffin.

The therapy session failed to illuminate the rationale for Caden’s attraction, and he left Camille’s office with homework not on why he was attracted to heavy guys, but why he felt that
mattered.

It didn’t matter, did it?

Waiting for You (Whirlwind Bar Book 1) by Reese Morrison

Amazon Link - Available on KU

Blurb

Taylor would give anything to have his best friend, Julio, look at him the way he looks at his revolving door of hook-ups. But Taylor knows that he's too big, too fat, and too plain to ever appeal. It doesn't help that his secret desires for lace, makeup, and submission don't match his outsides at all. But he can't keep pining for Julio forever, so he makes one last effort to move on.

When Julio finds Taylor's Grindr profile, he's can't believe how lucky he is. Not only do their kinks align perfect, but he might have a chance to finally show Taylor what he means to him. He quickly creates his own Grindr profile to get Taylor's attention. What could possibly go wrong?

This is the first book in the Whirlwind series. Each book encompasses a single whirlwind moment, usually around a single day, in which two (or sometimes three!) characters connect in a special way. The series features many transgender, genderqueer, and gender-bending characters who are looking for love (and some kink). This book contains some light bondage, spanking, and a HEA.

Review
My Rating -  4.5 Stars!

Reese Morrison's Waiting for You, the first book in the Whirlwind Bar series, is fun and riveting.

This series is unique, revolving around the Whirlwind bar, yet it's barely in the story. The book starts with the bartender at Whirlwind's point of view, introducing the couple we're going to be reading about. This confused me at first, yet it's actually quite fun in the end.

Taylor and Julio are best friends and business partners who secretly love one another. In a nice twist, Taylor is a large man who desires the smaller Julio to dominate him. Theirs is a story of secrets being unveiled, and desires being satisfied.

Both men are lovable. Taylor's overweight, looks like a bear, but doesn't have the mindset of a bear. He prefers femme clothing, including lace, as he enjoys being pretty. I love these two friends who have secret desires that perfectly compliment one another. Their story is full of heat, including BDSM, spanking, and bondage.

My first time reading a Reese Morrison tale, I was pleasantly surprised by Waiting For You and looking forward to more of the series.
