My Irresistible Enemy (Rebel Hearts Book 3) by Spencer Spears

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Baking with the enemy shouldn’t feel so good…

Aiden: In my defense, I didn’t expect to be cast on a reality baking show when I started my cam boy account. I’m just crossing my fingers no one from A Piece of Cake discovers my salacious side hustle—but I never counted on fellow contestant Nolan McAllister…

Quiet, self-possessed, and infuriatingly attractive, Nolan would be perfect—if he weren’t also aloof, stuck-up, and judgmental. The worst part? He accidentally walked in on me filming a very compromising video for my fans, and now he holds my future in his hands.

But when Nolan and I find out we’re both about to get cut from the show, we have to work together to stay. My solution? We pretend to fall for each other. There’s nothing America loves more than a co-star romance.

The only problem is that the more time I spend with Nolan, the more I realize he’s not what he seems. And as things get steamy in the kitchen, it gets harder and harder to keep my hands—and other body parts—off of him.

Fake dating my biggest rival wasn’t supposed to involve real feelings, but I’m starting to realize the real prize might not be fame or money—it might just be Nolan’s heart.

My Irresistible Enemy is Book 3 in the Rebel Hearts series set in steamy southern Georgia. Each book is snarky, swoony, and full of heat. They can be read on their own, but are even more fun together. My Irresistible Enemy is a 100,000 word m/m romance with a cheeky cam boy, a guarded chef, a TV baking show, and fake dating and enemies to lovers themes. HEA guaranteed.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Irresistible Enemy is the third book in the Rebel Hearts series. This Spencer Spears book can easily be read as a standalone, although reading the previous books will add to the fun.

Damn! Once again, Spencer left me in awe of one of his books. This one started off slow-ish to me, and took me a while to fully appreciate the characters. But, damn, Aiden and Nolan are amazingly complex and their story is so wonderfully multi-layered.

Basically, there is way more to each man than appears to the eye. Or to the public eye, as they're on a baking competition reality show.

Aidan's lack of self esteem is heartbreaking. I just wanted to hug the man and tell him that yes, he is indeed worthy.

And then there's Nolan. He's super serious and cautious, but he certainly has good reasons. He's trying to win money to help his sick mother, but doesn't want anyone to know about her issues. And after learning about his past, I am impressed by what a forgiving, wonderful son he is.
As for the thing that leaves him cautious, well damn, that just made me so mad. Poor man.

One of my favorite aspects is when Nolan learns to trust and let loose with Aidan. It isn't easy for him, but god, I love when he truly gets there.

There's a lot going on in the story, with plenty of twists and turns. Nothing was a surprise to me, as I was assuming the correct things early on, but that didn't distract me from enjoying it.

This is a story with a baker who doesn't know how to bake, a fake relationship that slowly turns real, a cam boy and his stalker, and more.

Their storyline is riveting, with a fabulous ending. I love this story. By the end, I was left in love with these men and all they went through.

Irresistible Enemy is another remarkable romance by Spencer Spears. This is one of those books you will stay up late into the night reading. I love Summersea and all the wonderful people in this town.

When You Come Back to Me (Lost Boys #2) by Emma Scott

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys...

Holden Parish survived his parents' horrific attempts to make him "the perfect son." After a year's stint in a Swiss sanitarium to recover, he has vowed to never let anything--or anyone--trap him again. Brilliant but broken, he seeks refuge behind alcohol, meaningless sex, and uses his wicked sense of humor to keep people away. He only has to ride out one year in the coastal town of Santa Cruz with his aunt and uncle before he inherits his billions and can make his escape. Disappear.

Falling in love is not in the plans.

River Whitmore. Star quarterback of the Central High football team, Prom King, Mr. Popular, ladies' man. He leads the perfect life...except it's all a lie. His father has River's future in the NFL all planned out, while River's dream is to run the family business in the town that he loves. But his mother's illness is tearing the family apart and River is becoming the glue that holds them together. How can he break his father's heart when it's already shattering?

River's carefully-crafted façade explodes when he meets Holden Parish. A guy who dresses in coats and scarves year-round, drinks expensive vodka, and spends his free time breaking into houses for the fun of it. They're complete opposites. River seeks a quiet life, away from the spotlight. Holden would rather have dental surgery than settle down.

Holden's demons and River's responsibilities threaten to keep them apart, while their undeniable attraction crashes them together again and again, growing into something deep and real no matter how they resist.

Until one terrible night changes everything.

#MMromance This book CAN BE READ AS A STANDALONE
Please note, this book contains spoilers for The Girl in the Love Song

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Wow, When You Come Back to Me is a powerful read. If you're in the mood for angst, look now further. This Emma Scott tale is loaded with
grief and the long term effects of conversion therapy.

The second book in the Lost Boys series, it's easily read as a standalone.

Meet River and Holden. Two boys who are drowning in their pain.

Certain stories ruin you, and theirs is one such story.

River is living a life he doesn't want, as he's living his father's dream, not his own. If that isn't bad enough, he's also dealing with his mother's cancer, knowing she is dying and he can't do anything about it.

As for Holden, he's a survivor of a conversion camp, but he's barely holding on. His pain is front and center throughout and it's one hell of a tough read. His life is agony and it's agony to read.

Holden's pain and suffering is staggering. He doesn't know what love is. He doesn't know how to let himself be happy. Conversion therapy truly ruined him. And the reader gets a first hand look into all of his pain.

It's a heavy read, but it's a great read.

It's angst heavy and perfectly riveting.

It's the perfect combination of hurt/comfort, grief, and coming of age.

Best of all is the slow going for these two. I one hundred percent appreciate that nothing is fluffed off in this book. I praise the author for how the tale ends, with a realistic and poignant manner. I love that nothing's forced or glossed over.

And, oh dear god, the water. Holy crap. The water is definitely it's own character in this story, as it represents something so damn awful to Holden. It's a fascinating and meaningful addition of the story.

Written in alternating 1st person pov, the emotions fully jump off the pages. These two men and all their emotions are there for the reader to experience along with the young men.

But, damn, When You Come Back To Me is one hell of a heavy read. I can't recommend this book enough. Definitely pick it up the next time you're in the mood for something serious and meaningful. It's a stunning read. You won't regret it. And rest assured, there is a happy ending.

Messy Ink (Get Ink'd #2) by Ali Lyda

Dane

Chris is a great doctor, but he can’t heal me…

I learned to look out for myself on the streets and in juvie. I’ve cleaned up my act, but it doesn’t mean that I’m about to start trusting a guy to stick around. Especially not a clean cut doctor like Chris. No wonder I ended things between us the first time around.

I’m sure it’s for the best. A guy like me can’t have a guy like Chris, no matter how much I want him. I’ve done too many bad things, and now karma is coming back to bite me. But every time my path crosses with Chris, I can’t help but wonder what might have been.

Chris

Is Dane too broken to try again with me?

I knew Dane was a player when we hooked up the first time, and I thought I didn’t want strings. But the smoking hot tattoo artist makes me want to break the rules and try something new. His past is full of pain, and I’ve got commitment issues of my own. It’s no wonder we didn’t last.

Dane has hidden depths, and my heart still beats like crazy every time I get close to him. If I let him get too close he could hurt me all over again - but maybe I’m ready to take a risk. Can we overcome the odds and make things work?

Messy Ink is a 70k m/m romance that gives you steamy second chances, a bad boy tattoo artist learning he’s worthy of love, the doctor who’s ready to mend his heart, and tons of gorgeous ink all wrapped up and ready for reality TV.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Wow, just wow! Messy Ink is an amazing book by Ali Lyda. The second book in the Get Ink'd series, it is fabulous.

Chris and Dane are fascinating characters who grabbed my attention from the start. Good god, I love them. Dane has walls around his heart like Fort Knox. He won't risk getting his heart hurt again, leaving him unwilling to let anyone in at all.

This is a tale of living a life of shame. Dane's past is heartbreaking and will leave you loving him just a little bit more.

Their story includes a sick mother, money problems, a reality show, and a sexually aggressive producer. And of course, their journey includes many appearances by the rest of the Get Ink'd crew.

Messy Ink is a fantastic emotional read. This Ali Lyda book is a worthwhile hurt/comfort read that contains a hard fought journey towards love. And I love it all!!!

Trifles and Treasures (Hearts of Snow Lake Book 4) by Ashton Cade

Blurb

Ben:

“I keep forgetting we went to high school together.”

Damn, that hurt. I don’t know why, because I barely even talked to Adam. He was two years older than me—at that age, it might as well have been a decade—and we were in entirely different crowds. He was so much cooler than me. Probably still is from the looks of him. I couldn’t ever pull off that kind of scruffy beard or the casual, confident strut. At Adam’s core, he’s a rock star, and even if that dream never happened for him, he just exudes that “‘it”’ energy.

Despite never talking to him in high school, despite never making a move of any kind, despite my absolute certainty that I’d never talk to him ever again, I’ve never let this flame go out. And now he's back here in Snow Lake and all those feelings are back with a vengeance.

I don’t know what it is about this guy that sparks something in me—a need, a drive to be more. Enough to make him notice me. How pathetic is that?

But now that he has noticed me, I'm shaking. I don't know if I can face losing what I've always wanted.

Adam:

My mom's really sick, and I'm back in Snow Lake to take care of her—whether she wants me to or not. It's bringing up all kinds of memories, both good and bad—but at the same time, I can see that things have really changed.

In Des Moines, I’m a recluse who doesn’t date. Here in Snow Lake, the place I couldn't wait to get away from as an angsty teenager, it’s like I’m a different guy. A guy that could have friends, family connections, maybe even a relationship if I could get my head out of my ass. But that’s not really me, is it? It’s just a vacation version of me. It’s not real, and when it’s time for me to leave, none of the connections "Snow Lake Adam" made here will be either, so what’s the point?

Ben thinks I'm still that punk guitar player he had a crush on so many years ago. Little does he know I turned out pretty boring. The way he looks at me with stars in his eyes makes me want to both puff up and hide at the same time, so he doesn't find out I'm just a regular guy. Kind of a dud. But he's so sincere and kind. And super sexy.

I wonder what would have happened if I had met him back then. Would I have still messed up my life so badly?

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Ashton Cade's Trifles and Treasures, the fourth book in the Hearts of Snow Lake series, is amazing!

Ben gets a second chance with his high school crush, Adam, when Adam returns home to care for his sick mother. What follows is not just a romance, but also a second chance for Adam with his family, as he tries to make amends and solidify a real relationship.

The author excels at establishing the small town feel, with fun and unique characters. The gossip line is always on point, and of course everyone knows everyone else. In general, I love the writing, the characters, and the storyline.

The mother/son relationship is a large part of this story, as they struggle to see eye to eye. They love each other deeply but don't know how to talk to each other. With Ben being best friends with Adam's mom, it makes for some interesting revelations. Margaret has a huge presence in this novel. In general, I love her relationship with the townfolks and her spunkiness. However, I definitely wanted to smack her at times.

As for the romance, it's breathtaking when you read something this sweet. "...seeing you is always the best part of my day." Swoon. Total swoon moment.

These two men are super hot together. My favorite part of their relationship though is the way things have changed a lot since high school. Ben's crush was on a version of Adam that he never really knew and who doesn't exist anymore. I enjoy as they discover the current versions of one another.

Trifles and Treasures is a superb addition to the Hearts of Snow Lake series. If you love small town romances, you need to read this series.

Soft Place to Fall by B.A. Tortuga

Blurb

Stetson and Curtis want to find a place where they both fit, to be there to catch each other when they fall. But family, money problems, and the call of the rodeo circuit might end their second-chance romance before it even gets started.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Soft Place to Fall is a wonderful romance by BA Tortuga. It took me a while to get into this one. The writing style didn't allow me to connect to the men right away. But I am thrilled to have kept reading. At it's heart, it's a beautiful second chance romance.

Stetson's mother's sick and keeps asking to see Stetson's ex boyfriend, Curtis, setting the stage for a reunion and their second chance.

Stetson's family issues are heart-breaking. As anyone who's witnessed the tragedy of Alzheimer's in a family member knows, watching a love one struggle to remember anything, while also dying, is as tough as it gets.

If that wasn't bad enough, then he also has to face money problems, which is just an extra stress he doesn't deserve. The reunion of Stetson and Curtis is wonderful. They're just so damn sweet together. Watching them get another chance is fantastic.

Soft Place to Fall is a wonderful story of finding a way to make a relationship work. BA Tortuga excels with the exploration of realizing a couple changes and they're now ready to make the sacrifices.

Cowboy Seeks Husband, the latest book by Vespertine authors Leta Blake and Indra Vaughn, features a cowboy, a hipster, opposites attract, steamy scenes, and heart tugging moments that will leave you wanting more.

Review
My Rating - 5 Stars!

A Cowboy in a dating show? Yes please! Leta Blake and Indra Vaughn excel with Cowboy Seeks Husband, as we follow along in the making of a dating show.

When Walker and Roan meet on the show, the attraction is strong, but the complications are high. Neither man wants to be on the show, but both have their reasons for doing so. One needs the money to help his farm, the other to help with his mother's medical expenses. Despite a growing connection, they come from very different worlds, and can never fit in the long run.

The writing is fantastic, placing me in the scenes, observing everything and feeling every emotion. Both the show, and the behind the scenes coverage is wonderfully done, and extremely interesting. The farm scenes and horses scenes are all enchanting. And the show's forced moments and arranged things perfectly demonstrate the non-reality of such reality shows.

I find the premise to be a lot of fun. Their story is the perfect mix of problems, complications, emotions, manipulations, conflict, and sex. And by sex, I mean hot sex!

Cowboy Seeks Husband is a story of finding love at an inconvenient time, yet also at the perfect time. You'll have to read it to see what I mean. These authors come together to give us a beautiful and tender story of finding a way to live and a way to look forward to each day. I found it to be a whole lot of fun, as it's riveting, compelling, and memorable. I definitely recommend it.

Excerpt

“We’re going what?”

“Noodling.” Walker looked far too calm. And smug. Roan figured this probably heralded danger in brooding southern cowboys.

“And I need these.” Roan held up the waterproof bib overalls.

Walker smirked. He had his arms folded over his chest and was leaning against the doorjamb of the kitchen. Roan had been cornered there by Walker and John while making sour apple tea. “Technically you don’t, but I’m sure you’ll want to wear them.”

Roan narrowed his eyes. “But that means we’re going into the water. I know what lives in your water down here. Alligators. And venomous snakes. I googled.”

“Now, why would you do that?” Walker dramatically slapped his forehead, then leaned in closer as if to share a secret. Roan leaned in too, drawn to Walker’s firm, muscled body and cheerful brown eyes, despite his probable imminent death on this so-called date. “Here’s the thing: gators aren’t that aggressive really. You probably won’t even see one. They want to stay as far away from you as you do from them.”

“Really?”

“No. But it makes it easier to get in the water if you tell yourself that.”

Roan stared at him.

“But, seriously, I’m not scared of the gators, and if there was a real, true danger, you know they wouldn’t let us anywhere near the water.”

Roan swallowed hard. The morning light from the kitchen window highlighted the little wrinkles at the edges of Walker’s eyes. Probably from squinting into fields all day. The man even smelled like fresh-cut grass and fresh air.

“As for the snakes, yeah…well.” Walker shrugged. “You just have to make sure you don’t wander into a nest of moccasins. I’m sure the set nurse has antivenom on hand.”

“Water moccasins. The shoe snakes.”

“They don’t look anything like shoes.”

Roan put the waterproof overalls on the counter. “Oh my God, I’m going to die.”

Walker straightened, and the attractive, teasing grin fell from his face. “Seriously, though, if you don’t want to do it, just say so. I won’t hold it against you.”

“If you say bless your heart, I’ll know exactly what you mean,” Roan grumbled. Walker laughed, and God. He was so damn handsome. Feeling his face heat, Roan looked down at the dry bib overalls. They were pretty thick. Maybe the fabric would stop the snake bites. “Fine, I’ll come.”

“I’m mighty glad.”

“You should be.”

Between the threat of biting critter, the thrill of Walker’s sweet drawl, and the headiness of his eager attention, Roan’s head was a swirl. Leaving his tea behind untasted, he stomped away for some privacy to get changed, ignoring John who said, “That’s got to be the most reluctant acceptance of a date I’ve ever seen. Andy’s going to love it.”
