RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW - Beautiful Mistakes (Second Chances #3) by Felice Stevens

Title: Beautiful Mistakes
Series: Second Chances #3
Author: Felice Stevens
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: August 25, 2021

Wolf
Desire: What Wolf struggles with from the moment he sees Spencer Hawkins the first day of college.
Fear: Not a word in Wolf’s vocabulary except when it comes to facing his feelings for Spencer.
Lust: What he gives in to that changes everything between them. And his life forever.
Denial: Something Wolf is all too familiar with—denying who he is and who he wants. It’s better this way, even if it’s tearing him and his friendship with Spencer apart.

Spencer
Hide: What Spencer does best. He hides from everyone, especially himself and the crazy attraction to Wolf he can’t shake.
Walls: Spencer throws them up to protect himself from all the hurts life heaps on him—his mother’s death, his father’s indifference, and the men who share his bed and walk away.
Betrayal: Not by just anyone. By Wolf. The one man he can’t forget. Or forgive.
Want: Spencer wants to live in the moment, but he can’t stop thinking about that night. And it doesn’t help that he and Wolf keep knocking heads…and locking lips.
Love: What these two idiots need to realize is happening between them. What started out as their ugliest regret could end up being the most beautiful mistake they ever made.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Beautiful Mistakes is a fabulous romance by Felice Stevens. The third book in the Second Chances series, it's easily read as a standalone.

I was quickly drawn into this heart warming tale and couldn't put it down. The characters are complex and their storyline is multi-layered. Basically, it's everything I've come to expect from this author.

Wolf and Spencer's story is amazing. They knew each other way back when as roommates in college, when the group of best friends/roommates totaled four. For these two though, there was always a little bit of animosity that caused a lot of banter and fights.

Their connection is strong, as happens with someone you have so many years of being friends with. But they each have a lot of baggage that creates a messy relationship between them.

And damn, I love these two together. Their connection and chemistry is fantastic.

Their story includes secrets and past hurts. But it's when they start to let one another truly in that everything gets great. It's wonderful when they let down their guard and start to understand one another better.

God, I love that these two have so much keeping them apart, and keeping them at odds. It made things extra special when they finally open up and give into their feelings.

This is a story full of bullying and abuse. These men know pain, hurt, and betrayal first hand. It's tough to read at times for sure.

The writing is great, and the characters are extra special. The author excels in creating these two and the backgrounds that made them the way they are.

Beautiful Mistakes is a deep and emotional friends to lovers story. This Felice Stevens read is truly an impressive story. I can't recommend it enough. Definitely check it out the next time you're in the mood for some serious characters.

Felice Stevens has always been a romantic at heart. She believes that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending just around the corner. Her characters have to work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy, and that includes love.

My Rating - 5+ Stars!

Say You'll Be Nine is an amazing book. I love every single second of this sweet Lucy Lennox GFY story.

The author packs a whole lot into this tale. It's a great combination of brother's best friend, forced proximity, a reality show, and a sexual awakening.

Cooper and Nine are adorable and fun together. I love them both immediately. They clearly complement one another and the flirting is fabulous. As for their chemistry, let's just say they have it in spades. The fact that they go from frenemies to lovers, as the lines begin to blur, just adds to the fun.

The reality show is aspect is so damn realistic, and I totally wish these men were real. I would absolutely be a following them and gushing over their relationship.

The conflict fits in perfectly, naturally adding to the tale, without ever feeling forced. I enjoy every single moment of it.

As always, the author's writing is superb, adding plenty of humor to this adorable tale. The character development is flawless and the storyline is riveting. Lucy has once again created a couple and a storyline that I found myself living along with the characters. I was personally invested in them as a couple, as well as individually, and couldn't put this book down.

As for the overall theme, I don't want to give anything away, but it's wonderful. And Lucy handles it perfectly.

Say You'll Be Nine may just be my new favorite Lucy Lennox book. And that's saying a lot, of course. It is a beautiful story that is a must read. I can't wait to re-read this gem.

Thinking about Cooper though… well, that did something to me. It made me annoyed, mostly, but for some reason that annoyance made itself known through what I’d begun to think of as “angry dick.” Yes, thoughts of arguing with Cooper made me hard. And since I was fixing to spend the entire summer sleeping near, fighting with, and pretending to kiss and hug the man, this was going to be a problem.

“Keep it together,” I grumbled under my breath. Nacho’s ears perked up in the rearview mirror. “Oh, not you, baby. You’re fine. Go back to sleep. Daddy’s just having a sexuality crisis, no big.”

I remembered one time when Cooper was staying over during a spring break, I’d come home late from helping a neighbor fix his tractor shed and run right into Cooper pouring himself a glass of ice water in the darkened kitchen. He’d been standing there in nothing but navy-striped boxer briefs, and I’d stared at him like he was some kind of alien.

“Nine,” he’d said slowly. “Didn’t know you were out this late.”

I’d glanced my fill of his entire body, curious more than anything about what another man outside my family looked like without his clothes on. Since I’d helped my dad on the farm and worked at Walt’s, I hadn’t played school sports and had the locker room experience like some others had.

I remembered the air getting weird between us and his underwear getting bulgier as we stood there. Had it been possible he was getting hard for me? I’d known he was gay, but this was something else.

“Uh, yeah,” I’d croaked. “Was working at the farm next door. Sorry.” I’d scooted past him and raced for my room, kicking myself for apologizing for being in my own damned kitchen. After that, every time I’d seen Cooper I hadn’t been able to help but look at his fly to see if he was getting hard for me again. It had been this inappropriate addiction I’d had that had pissed me the hell off and started the odd discord between us. Was it ego? Did I really care if some gay guy found me attractive?

So yeah. I was sweating buckets and probably going to puke and faint at the same time the minute I saw him at the renovation cabin. Super-duper.

When I finally pulled off the deserted mountain highway and onto the road where the property was located, I finally pulled over and upchucked into the weeds at the side of the forest. Nothing like christening a new place with a little vomit.

Nacho whimpered and whined from the half-open window, so I waved my hand at him to let him know I was still alive. I used some napkins from the side pocket to wipe my mouth and then swished with water from my water bottle. Finally, I popped in some mint gum from the console and tried to take a deep breath. At least now I wasn’t going to puke when I saw Cooper.

About Lucy:

After enjoying creative writing as a child, Lucy didn’t write her first novel until she was over 40 years old. Her debut novel, Borrowing Blue, was published in the autumn of 2016. Lucy has an English Literature degree from Vanderbilt University, but that doesn’t hold a candle to the years and years of staying up all night reading tantalizing novels on her own. She has three children, plays tennis, and hates folding laundry. While her husband is no shmoopy romance hero, he is very good at math, cooks a mean lasagne, has gorgeous eyes, looks hot in his business clothes, and makes her laugh every single day.

Lucy hopes you enjoy sexy heroes as much as she does. Happy reading!

MF - Only When It's Us (Bergman Brothers #1) by Chloe Lies

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

2 Frenemies.
1 Disastrous prank.
Ryder
Ever since she sat next to me in class and gave me death eyes, Willa Sutter’s been on my shit list. Why she hates me, I don't know. What I do know is that Willa is the kind of chaos I don’t need in my tidy life.
She’s the next generation of women’s soccer.
Wild hair, wilder eyes.
Bee-stung lips that should be illegal.
And a temper that makes the devil seem friendly.
She’s a thorn in my side, a menacing, cantankerous, pain-in-the-ass who’s turned our Business Mathematics course into a goddamn gladiator arena. I'll leave this war zone unscathed, coming out on top…And if I have my way with that crazy-haired, ball-busting hellion, that will be in more than one sense of the word.
Willa
Rather than give me the lecture notes I missed like every other instructor I’ve had, my asshole professor tells me to get them from the silent, surly flannel-wearing mountain man sitting next to me in class. Well, I tried. And what did I get from Ryder Bergman? Ignored.
What a complete lumbersexual neanderthal.
Mangy beard and mangier hair.
Frayed ball cap that hides his eyes.
And a stubborn refusal to acknowledge my existence.
I’ve battled men before, but with Ryder, it's war. I’ll get those notes and crack that Sasquatch nut if it’s the last thing I do, then I’ll have him at my mercy. Victory will have never tasted so sweet.
Only When It’s Us is a frenemies-to-lovers, new adult sports romance between a women’s soccer star and her surly lumbersexual classmate, complete with a matchmaking professor, juvenile pranks, and a smoking slow burn. This standalone is the first in a series of new novels about five Swedish brothers and their wild adventures, ending in a true happily ever after

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Only When It's Us is an enjoyable new adult romance by Chloe Lies. I'm always a sucker for a good college romance, and this frenemies to lovers one excited me from the start.

Ryder and Willa get off to a rough start. The way this is written captured my attention immediately and had me fully intrigued in their story throughout. As they learn one another's backgrounds and motivations, the walls start crumbling. Both characters are complex, and end up being way more than they appear to be. I definitely enjoy them as individuals and as a couple.

Willa is a strong female character, a total spitfire, and a sports star. Yes, the female character is the college sports star in this one. What a delightful twist from the norm. A totally independent woman, she is not one for commitment, and it shows.

Then there's Ryder. Wow. Just wow. His backstory is handled in a nice way, not focusing on the negative. Yet, he will win you over immediately when you learn his background. And his family, oh how I love them.

This one just has all the feels for me. The story is written with charm and love. Ohhh...the slow burn element is wonderfully done. This story is one with a wonderful family element that I completely love as well.

The writing is great, with a nice tone, a pleasant writing style, and a seamless flow. The author excels in the exploration of being deaf, writing it with knowledge, compassion, and care. And then there's the bickering. Ohhh, the author gives us plenty of hot tempered moments between these two, which just ups the fun. They bicker, insult, and piss off one another from the start. It's all great.

I truly enjoy Only When It's Us. My first time reading a Chloe Lies book, I am impressed and look forward to reading more. Don't miss out on this little gem when you're in the mood for a sweet new adult read! It won't disappoint with it's mix of friendship, family, and love.

Appeal to You (Beyond the Cove #3) by Jaclyn Quinn

Blurb

Will the demons of the past ruin any hope for the future?

If there’s anyone who knows how to have a good time—be it with a man or a woman—it’s Ryder Pearce. Master of the nail-it-and-bail-it theory, he lives his life for one person and one person only: himself. When a man enters Ryder’s life who challenges him on every flirtation, every sexual innuendo he can come up with, Ryder’s thrown off his game in a big way. Because there’s one thing the man has made perfectly clear—they’ve played this game before, and Ryder doesn’t remember the outcome.
Avery Hamilton has seen all of Ryder’s moves and has witnessed his sex appeal. He knows all too well about his cocky sense of humor and his penchant for one-night stands. There was a time in his life when he’d taken the bait, but this time around, he wants more. He’s seen Ryder’s act; what he hasn’t seen is Ryder—the real Ryder he hides from the world.
When both men come together to help a young boy, Ryder’s forced to face things from his past he’s blocked out. Things he never wanted anyone to know. Now, Ryder has one fear… Will revealing that side of himself be real enough for Avery? Or will it be the reason Avery walks away?

***Warning: This book contains off-page references to sexual/physical abuse of a minor.
***This book is the third book in a series. Reading the books out of order may result in spoilers.

Review
My Rating - 5 Stars!

Jaclyn Quinn's Appeal to You, the third book in the Beyond the Cover series, is a splendid story of healing and family.

Avery and Ryder are complete opposites, who truly prove that opposites can attract. From the start, these complex characters banter and butt heads, starting of some great sparks.

Their story involves a tragic past that delves into foster care and the long lasting affects of what happens in a bad foster home. Ryder's own experiences in his youth lead him to want to take care of Chris, a neighbor who's about to be placed in foster care. Avery and Ryder have a sorted history, but working together to help Chris brings them closer together. Unfortunately, it also brings up the past for Ryder, which is messy and ugly, leaving him broken and feeling unlovable.

Ohhh, and Ryder has a Prince Albert piercing. Avery's exploration of it is a lot of fun. And the humor is fantastic. "Prince Eddy is ready for heady." Omg! stitches! I always love some good banter, and this one has it in spades.

The strong sense of friends and family is wonderful, adding immensely to the story. The strength of family is well explored, illustrated with heart and compassion. And it's a story of falling in love with a teenager who needs a family, and doing everything you can to help him.

At it's heart, it's a story of learning one's self worth, and a story of creating a family when you're own isn't worthy. It's a story of finding one's forever family.

Their story is one of guilt and fear. It's also one of survival and strength. It's a story of putting one's past behind you, or realizing you're more than your past.

Appeal To You is a beautiful story of a man who always felt invisible finding someone who sees him. Jaclyn Quinn excels in the telling of this tender tale of facing one's past and healing. I highly recommend this heart-warming tale.
