Drilled (Four Bears Construction #7) by K.M. Neuhold

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

A month in a remote cabin with the last man I ever expected to see again? I can’t decide if I should punch him or drill him. It might end up being both.

After more than a decade, the last person I expected to see walk into the Four Bears Construction offices as a new hire was Ridge.

He was my first crush, and my first heartbreak when he started dating my sister. When he left her at the altar without so much as a note, I wrote him off for good.

No amount of excuses and explanations can erase what he did. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. But when we end up being sent to a remote campground alone to spend a month rebuilding the cabins, it’s too easy to remember why I fell for him in the first place.

I know the guys are all taking bets on how long it takes us to start playing with each other’s tools.

It’s going to be a long month.

*** Drilled is a forced proximity, best friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, hilarious and steamy, final book in the Four Bears Construction series. It can be read as a stand alone but you won't want to miss this whole hilarious and hot series. No bear shifters, only the other kind of burly, hairy bears.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Drilled is a sweet and funny romance by KM Neuhold. The seventh book in the Four Bears Construction, it can easily be read as a standalone, but is best enjoyed read in order.

Apollo and Ridge's story is heartwarming and absolutely riveting. I love these charming men and became addicted to their story from the start.

They're former best friends turned enemies, setting up a fun enemies to lovers romance. And as part of the construction team, you know there will be plenty of laughs throughout.

Poor Ridge was once engaged to Apollo's sister, but when he broke things off with her, he lost his best friend too. The poor man realized that he was gay the night before his wedding, and that he was in love with his best friend. Ouch!

Fast forward more than a decade and the two are stuck working together. Everything that follows is as good as you'd expect from this author and series.

The setting of an abandoned campground is great, with plenty of cabin and woods moments.

I absolutely love this big group of guys, and the way they set Ridge and Apollo up with a long stretch of formed proximity. The group of the Four Bears men and their significant others makes for non stop fun, banter, and antics. They definitely get each other into some HOT moments. Love it! Omg, I couldn't stop laughing at times.

Written in alternating first person pov, the author easily draws us into these men and their emotions. I'm usually uncomfortable with present tense, but KM is one of the authors who can write this way and still keep me riveted. Somehow KM writes without any awkward moments, which I find impressive.

Drilled is a perfect addition to this world of Four Bears Construction. I love every moment of this KM Neuhold story. And the ending is so good!

Being Enough (Portland Piranhas #2) by Alie Nolan

Blurb

Eli has been looking forward to his yearly trip to Camp Lost Lake—a sports camp for underprivileged kids—all season. He is more than ready for a month-long break from his offensive coordinator responsibilities. Until a public fight with the Piranhas' star tight end, Colton Roth, and the subsequent media fallout, results in the pair being forced to spend the summer at Camp Lost Lake together.

Colton is almost as good at antagonizing Coach Conley as he is at playing football, but as usual, his behavior has landed him in hot water. Now, his position with the Piranhas is on the line, and he must stay away from any potentially scandalous situations. Trying to stay on his best behavior doesn’t last long though, and after hooking up with Coach Conley, it looks like Colton might have put the final nail in his career’s coffin.

Can Colton and Eli survive an entire month in the middle of nowhere together? And will either of them still have their careers intact after the summer is over?

This is the second book in the Portland Piranhas series, but can be read as a standalone.

Review
My Rating - 4 Stars!

Being Enough, the second book in the Portland Piranhas series, is a riveting enemies to Lovers romance.

Taking place at a summer camp, it's a combination of forced proximity, hooking up, friends with benefits, and more. It's a coach/player romance, as Eli and Colton manage to mend their differences and give into some hate sex. I highly enjoy their story.

The writing is great, entertaining, fluid, and quick paced. Told in alternating 1st person pov, the author grabs the reader and fully pulls them into the animosity between the two, and then treats us to their change of feelings in a successful manner.

Being Enough is a story of two athletes falling in love, but their tale takes place mostly outside of the game. If you're a sports romance fan though, there's plenty to keep you satisfied.

REVIEW TOUR - Shake the Stars by VL Locey

Length: 100,000 words approx.

Cover Design: Sloan J Designs

Publisher: Gone Writing Publishing

Blurb

Spending time in the Poconos with his family was the last thing Dane Forrester wanted to do over the summer. He had dreams of spending his last break touring Europe and gathering story ideas for his upcoming creative writing classes before heading to college. Maybe even finding that elusive first love in a small cafΓ© in Paris, or along the Rhine, or even in a sultry villa in Italy. But no, he was stuck at the Silver Fir Lodge with his family where his dreams of romance and passion would wither and die a slow painful death, or so he imagined.

When all seemed lost, the budding wordsmith is saved—in more than one sense—by Khalid Novak, a lifeguard at the lodge’s pool. Khalid is two years older, a bit more sophisticated, and the most incredibly alluring thing Dane has ever seen. The two young men find themselves joyously wound in a searing romance that teaches Dane that love can be wildly intense yet fleeting so one should revel in it when the discovery is made.

Can this summer romance survive the chill of autumn as well as the winds of time?

My Rating - 5 Stars!
VL Locey's Shake the Stars is an amazing first love book. Raw and gutsy, it's a fantastic young adult, second chances romance.

An insta-love story, Dane and Khalid fall in love at summer camp. The long summer is spent together exploring both their worlds and each other. With a Dirty Dancing type feel, these two young men are caught in the web of first love and coming out.

Dane and Khalid have a complicated relationship with many issues thrown their way, including religious homophobia, as well as religious bigotry. There are
some amazing quotes; some fantastic conversations about religion. My favorite theme though is that of faith. The author perfectly explores the fact that faith is a personal thing. And even better yet, the fact that God doesn't hate, humans do. I love this. Absolutely love it. The discussions are important and relevant.

Dane's fear of water is an impressive aspect of this story. Well written, I love the way Khalid helps him with his fear. It's wonderfully emotional, both tender and beautiful.

Their tale also includes the weight of family expectations and the painful lesson that first love doesn't always last. Their long journey towards love is full of angst as well as love. Theirs is a tale of sacrifices and compromises.

Overall, Shake the Stars is one hell of an impressive romance. VL Locey's one of my favorite authors, with this one holding up to her reputation. Basically, if you love VL Locey, be sure to check out this YA romance. It's an emotional journey that is beautiful in both it's story and it's storytelling.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Family Camp is an interesting and intriguing romance by Eli Easton.

Gus brings the kids to attend a Family camp, while they are just trying to start being a family. While there, he meets Travis who works at the camp each summer.

Can't help but to admire and like Gus. Taking in two foster kids, and wanting to adopt them is inspiring and uplifting. Meanwhile, Travis is closeted baseball player who's weighed down by the pressure of being gay in a pro sport.

Both kids are wonderfully written, true to their circumstances and ages. Lucy and her dolls just hit me in the heart. What a precious little girl. Her attachment to her dolls is heart warming while also being heart breaking. And Jaiden's developed perfectly, as a teen with abandonment issues. It's realistic and emotional.

Travis' connection to Jaiden is wonderful. He see so much of himself in Jaiden and easily relates to the chip on the shoulder. I love this.

I find the foster care discussions to be written with knowledge, heart, and care.
It's a story of love and trust., and it's beautiful.

Their relationship involves dealing with fears, insecurities, and secrets. It's about making connections, and finding a way to break through someone's walls. It's a tale of coming out; the fear, the complications, and the sacrifices when you stay closeted.
If you don't like kids in your romances, skip this one.

Family Camp's a story of living one's truth and finding someone who makes you want to be a better person. Eli Easton captures the power of love, both the power to give you the world versus the power to destroy you, in a marvelous manner. She does a fantastic job demonstrating how one who isn't nurtured and loved suffers many negative effects. This story is both compelling and riveting. I loved it all and am adding it to my re-read list.

Excerpt

Sixth inning. Geo was ready for the game to be over. It was fucking hot on the ball field, all open and exposed, the sun baking down. And he was also not sure how much more Travis-watching he could take—him with his silky burgundy gym shorts and a sweaty Camp Evermore green shirt stretched over those muscles. His long legs were tanned and well-defined from hours at the gym.

Those thighs could fucking crack walnuts. Dude.

Damn, but that was one fine-looking man. Geo knew he should lay off, though. Travis had made himself clear.

Only he hadn’t. At all. One minute, Travis seemed into him him. He sought out Geo’s company, like the way he kept coming by the cabin at night. And the next minute, he’d put distance between them, ignoring Geo or closing himself off behind a granite-like expression and those eye-hiding shades. And Travis had laid a clear line in the sand. Not at camp. Not gonna happen.

Yup. That was fine. Sure, Geo hadn’t been mutually attracted to a guy that hot in ages. Or ever, really. But Geo hadn’t come to camp to fool around. He had other priorities.

It did make him wonder though. Bridget had said Travis wasn’t out. A quick Google search last night had confirmed that. In fact, Geo had been shocked to discover there’d never been an out baseball player in the major leagues. Like, in the history of American baseball. Which was tragic. No wonder Travis was in the closet. It had to suck monkey balls living like that. Especially with all the women who threw themselves at him constantly. There were a dozen women on the sidelines right now that looked ready to have his babies. That had to be weird for a gay guy. Didn’t it?

Geo himself was always super uncomfortable when women came on to him. He felt compelled to blurt out “I’m gay!” in the first five minutes. It was just too weird otherwise.

Then again, Travis’s love life was none of Geo’s business. Maybe the guy was bisexual. Maybe he liked dating women just fine.

Jayden came up to bat. Geo focused on his son, clapping hard. “Come on, Jayden! You’ve got this!”

Jayden took a wide stance beside the plate, both hands gripping the bat, choked up a little. Travis had spent a few minutes with Jayden at the start of the game, showing him how to stand, and Jayden copied him exactly. The kid was a great mimic. He’d been nervous at first, tense and defensive. But by now he just looked focused. He stared, narrow-eyed, at Frank as Frank pitched an easy ball.

Geo loved that about this game, that everyone tried to give the kids easy wins, and no one took the competition seriously.

Jayden hit the ball hard. It flew through the air a short ways then plonked to the ground and skipped along fast. It was heading right down the center line, though a bit more towards third base and Travis’s side of the field.

“Go Jayden! Go!” Geo shouted. He went after the ball. In his peripheral vision, he saw Jayden round first base and keep running.

Travis was going after the ball too, dodging low. He scooped it up. He was going to throw it to third base, keep Jayden back on second. Geo couldn’t let that happen.

He dove in front of Travis, crowding him, holding an arm out to block Travis from throwing the ball.

Travis snorted, bemused. “What are you doing? You’re on my team.” He backed up, trying to get away from Geo.

“Blood before bros, man,” Geo said with fake seriousness. He kept up with Travis, step for step, grabbing Travis’s right arm in a firm grip so he couldn’t raise the ball.

“Stop it!” Travis laughed. “Dork. That’s not legal.”

“Don’t care.”

They took three steps back, like they were dancing. Geo held Travis’s right arm, staring him down. Travis met his gaze, a goofy smile on his lips. Back and back they stumbled. Suddenly, Travis got a sparkle in his eyes. He wrapped his left arm around Geo’s waist and picked him up, swinging him around so he ended up behind Travis.

Geo was still finding his feet as Travis drew back his arm and sent the ball sailing.

Right to home plate. But Jayden got there first. Umpire Cindy made the motion with her hands, safe.

Geo laughed and raised his arms in triumph. “Yeah, baby! Great job, Jayden! Home run, whoo!”

Then he realized everyone was staring at them. On the sidelines, there were a dozen cameras raised, filming.

Oh. Er. Hmm. Geo wiped his face, feeling sheepish.

That’s when a piercing scream rent the air.

At the Lake by Geoff Laughton

Blurb

Shane Martinelli and William Houghton come from very different backgrounds. They meet at a high-end summer camp in the Adirondacks, where Shane works as a lifeguard to earn some money and begin saving for college. William is one of the guests, and he doesn’t want to be there. As far as William knows, his father only dumped him at the camp so he could spend time with his latest mistress. When Shane figures out William can’t swim, he offers to teach him. William enthusiastically responds, but when an unexpected storm blows in, William is caught in the water and Shane comes to his rescue. They barely reach shore before lightning strikes the dock—close enough to damage Shane’s hearing.

The following summer both boys return to the camp. Shane doesn’t let his use of hearing aids stand in his way. William is now a counselor-in-training. The attraction between them is undeniable, but how can they possibly make it work? Once camp is over, a week at William’s family home in the Hamptons will determine if the love that bloomed at the lake can survive in the real world.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

At The Lake is a wonderful young adult, coming of age story.

It's Shane's first time working at the summer camp and Shane takes the younger William under his wing. He helps teach William to swim and make friends.

When an accident causes Shane to lose some of his hearing, the boys have some things to deal with, guilt, blame, and more. This part is well explored, interesting, and drives a lot of the story.

I enjoyed every bit of this young adult story. The two boys share their attraction to one another, but have to deal with the fact that Shane's a counselor, while William's a camper. Forbidden relationship for sure, as well as confusing.

The idea of feeling different is well crafted, written with nurturing and care. Their story is a sweet and tender coming of age story with a camp atmosphere that's impressively developed and becomes a character of it's own.

I love At The Lake. Geoff Laughton has created a compelling and honest coming of age story.
