The Defender is the fifth book in the Boston Hawks Hockey series by Gina Azzi. This hockey romance is easily read as a standalone.
This romance starts with a hookup which leaves James reeling the next morning.
I love James. He's a single father who easily wins the reader over. My heart aches for him immediately that he even has to leave his kids when he's on the road. In other words, he's the single guy who immediately makes you want to help him, as well as love him.
It takes longer for the reader to get a true sense of Bella. It's definite she's running from something, but it takes a while to know her backstory. And, oh man, it's heart wrenching.
James and Bella are a interesting characters, each of whom have a lot of depth. I love their story and the way they slowly give into more. And their chemistry is fabulous.
The Defender is another fabulous book in this hockey series. Gina Azzi once again creates interesting characters and a riveting storyline. Definitely check this one out the next time you're in the mood for a sports romance.
