Sea of Love by Nic Starr

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

The cruise of a lifetime. A reality TV show about romance. Falling in love is inevitable.

Evan Williams is the type of guy to stick by his friends, especially when they’ve been hurt and need a favour. And if that favour involves the cruise of a lifetime, then how can he say no? Even when it means pretending to be a devoted boyfriend to Amber and having their fake relationship play out on a reality TV show for all the world to see.

Realizing his boyfriend is a conceited jerk and dumping him doesn’t stop Harry Bishop from winding up as one half of a supposedly loved-up couple on the Sea of Love TV show. And if that’s not bad enough, he’s faced with temptation in the form of Evan, the perfect blend of boy-next-door-meets-sexy-stud he once crushed on. It’s going to be a long two weeks.

Two weeks of competitions, challenges, and confrontations. They’re here to take out the Sea of Love title—just not with each other—and there can only be one winner. But it turns out that true love isn’t about winning a contest; the real prize comes when you follow your heart.

Sea of Love is a feel-good romance featuring hidden attraction, fake relationships, and friends-to-lovers.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Sea of Love is exactly what you'd expect from the blurb. This Nic Starr read is a cute, sweet, easy read.

Evan and Harry are acquaintances who run into each other on a cruise. Problem is, it's a couples cruise/reality show and they are both pretending to be in a couple with someone else. Cue the forbidden relationship aspect.

What follows is adorable as the two spend time together and their feelings grow. They are wonderful together and sex is hot.

The reality show is the background for this story, but there isn't a whole lot of that being shown. It's there as a means to bring the men together and to add some obstacles in their way. But don't expect a lot of the show details or drama.

The writing is great, with a good pace, lovable characters. and a delightful storyline. The secondary characters fully come to life and add immensely to the tale.

Sea of Love is a great choice the next time you're in the mood for a cute romance. This Nic Starr tale is and perfectly sweet and fluffy.

His Compass (His #2) by Con Riley

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Tom has one rule: don’t sleep with the crew. A second chance with a younger, gorgeous deckhand tempts him to break it.

After a busy season as a charter-hire skipper, Tom yearns for some downtime. His lonely heart also aches for adventure with someone special, but paying his bills has to come first. A surprise sailing contract and huge bonus offer his first glimpse of freedom for years. There’s only one catch: he must crew with Nick, a deckhand who jumped ship once already.

Nick’s as young and untested as the new yacht they’re contracted to sail, and he’s just as gorgeous. Forced to spend a month as Nick's captain, Tom discovers depths he hadn’t noticed. He’s captivated, and happier sailing with Nick than he’s been in forever. However, their voyage is finite, and both men keep soul-deep secrets.

As the contract draws to an end, they must get honest about what’s in their hearts if they want to share a life at sea, and love, forever.

Featuring an age gap that’s only a number, forced proximity that makes hiding attraction impossible, and a yacht that’s nothing but trouble, His Compass is the second novel in the His Contemporary MM Romance series from Con Riley.

♥ This shared-world series starts with His Horizon, but each book follows a different couple, and can be enjoyed as a standalone novel complete with a fulfilling happily ever after. ♥

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

His Compass, the second book in the His series by Con Riley, is a beautiful, tender story.

Tom lives a life on the water; a life working to provide for his brother. But when he ends up with Nick as a deck hand, the tension is there, as he can't trust Nick.

Tom had given up on love, and sticks to his rule of not getting involved with a crew member. Nick, meanwhile, ends up being a huge surprise and complication.

Their story is full of heart and the two work well together.

The age gap is well explored, as these men are complete opposites, with one still young, and the other having a lifetime of experiences behind him.

As for the refugee element, wow. The author deals with some seriously sad circumstances, with a touch of caring and inspiration involved. I am impressed with this aspect.

I love visiting The Haven again and seeing the family side of things there. Justin's addition to the story is full of heart. It's both heartbreaking, yet beautiful.

The writing style is on the slow side, so I definitely need to be in the right mood to read this kind of story. But it's well worth it.

His Compass is a stellar read.  This Con Riley romance is compelling, precious, and unique. I highly recommend this one when you're in the mood for a slow paced story.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Yes, Captain is everything I love in a romance, a beautiful May to Dec relationship, combined with a forbidden element, secret romance, and the sensual world of dance. Formally released and published as Dance With Me, I am happy to re-read this tale with some added content.

The ship's captain, William finds himself attracted to the new dancer on the cruise ship, Eddie. As the attraction is mutual, Eddie ends up flirting with William before realizing that he's the captain.

As the two should never be together, and Will is still reeling from a broken marriage, they take things slow and really get to know one another. Thus, in addition to their hot and heavy moments, their friendship starts to blossom and the feelings become strong.

I love Eddie's flamboyant, lovable character. He is just fun and so damn likeable. Will, meanwhile, is the Silver Fox, strong captain. When he lets himself loose and has fun, it is wonderful.

One of the best lines in the story is Will referring to his ex. "Don't waste the energy hating him. I'm better off without him."

Yes, Captain is a fun, fast paced, gripping romance. Ann Grech has a complete winner with this book!

By day Ann Grech lives in the corporate world and can be found sitting behind a desk typing away at reports and papers or lecturing to a room full of students. She graduated with a PhD in 2016 and is now an over-qualified nerd. Glasses, briefcase, high heels and a pencil skirt, she’s got the librarian look nailed too. If only they knew! She swears like a sailor, so that’s got to be a hint. The other one was “the look” from her tattoo artist when she told him that she wanted her kids initials “B” and “J” tattooed on her foot. It took a second to register that it might be a bad idea.

She’s never entirely fit in and loves escaping into a book—whether it’s reading or writing one. But she’s found her tribe now and loves her MM book world family. She dislikes cooking, but loves eating, can’t figure out technology, but is addicted to it, and her guilty pleasure is Byron Bay Cookies. Oh and shoes. And lingerie. And maybe handbags too. Well, if we’re being honest, we’d probably have to add her library too given the state of her credit card every month (what can she say, she’s a bookworm at heart)!

She also publishes her raunchier short stories under her pen name, Olive Hiscock.

Kyle must choose between the love of his past and the man he could love in the future

For fifteen years, Kyle and Dustin seemed like the perfect couple. That was until Kyle came home to discover Dustin in bed with a yoga instructor half his age and twice his flexibility. Two years and countless therapy hours later, Kyle has almost put the incident behind him. Being nearly forty and single makes a man bitter, but he’s making do.

Yet, when Kyle’s best friend asks him to be her Man of Honor, on her ten-day Caribbean wedding cruise, Kyle finds himself in a most uncomfortable situation. He ends up trapped on a seafaring vessel for ten days with the man who practically destroyed him.

Face to face with Dustin for the first time since the breakup, unresolved feelings float to the surface, and Kyle and Dustin both begin to wonder if their story is as over as it seems.

While navigating unchartered waters with Dustin, Kyle also meets Jax, a sexy Australian who likes to cruise in more ways than one. Kyle is more than happy to let Jax distract him for ten days. Still, when Jax suggests that he might want more than just a few days of fun, Kyle must choose between the love of his past or the man he could love in the future.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

The Good Ship Lollipop is a riveting romance by Patrick Benjamin.

It takes a while to truly appreciate this book for what it is. Through most of the book, the characters aren't likeable. And by characters, I mean the main characters as well as the whole ensemble. That doesn't always make it easy to finish a book. Seriously, every single character is highly flawed.

But I love the author's writing style and there is plenty to keep one reading. It's fast paced, so never let your mind wander, or you'll miss something. And the twists and turns are fabulously done.

It really isn't until the end that the author explains the lessons learned. And damn, the last couple pages are stellar. There are far too many quotes I'd love to share.

It's a long read. Thus, it's a long journey for Kyle. He's stuck on a cruise ship with his ex and his ex's current boyfriend. To say he handles it well is a lie.

Kyle's ex, Dustin, and him spend the majority of the book fighting. There's banter, sass, innuendoes, and over the top antics. And Dustin really knows how to push Kyle's buttons. And often does.

But along the way, Kyle also manages to meet Jax. At first he claims Jax as a hookup, but slowly the two get to that place themselves.

There is a lot I could say about this story.

Some of the Dustin moments have left me furious. But it's the moment when a character roofies Kyle that leaves me steaming. How could this be treated as not a big deal? How could Kyle manage to over look this and end up getting closer to that character? I find that part shocking. I am livid for him and I can't forgive that character.

In the end, The Good Ship Lollipop is a stunning journey towards learning about oneself and others. The author reminds us that we never know why people do or say what they do. We can't always take it so personally or at face value. Sometimes people are hurting. Sometimes people are vulnerable. Sometimes they are fearful. And it's okay to forgive them.

Of course, with this crew, they're all a bunch of assholes. Sort of. But, none the less, I couldn't put it down.

No, absolutely not!” I nearly choked on a spinach leaf.

“You have to come,” Sapphire insisted. “I want you to be my Man of Honor.

“A) That’s not a thing. B) The answer is still no.”

“I can’t get married without you.”

“Sure, you can. There’s no law against it. People do it all the time.”

When Sapphire offered to take me to lunch, I should have suspected something treacherous was afoot. Sapphire and I were like sisters. Sisters of different races and one of them with a penis, but sisters, nonetheless. Our relationship was something enormous and incomprehensible to most people. On paper, we had nothing in common. We had completely different backgrounds and cultural experiences that cultivated entirely different perspectives of the world around us. Despite those differences, we had found each other.

As close as we were, the girl had never offered to buy lunch. She seldom volunteered to pay for anything. That should have been warning number one. When she suggested my favorite Italian restaurant, Armando’s, that should have been warning number two. When she volunteered to foot the bill to attend her destination wedding cruise, I should have known to prepare myself for the Armageddon of bad news.

“You spent fifteen years with the man. What are ten more days?” She spoke with her hands. A piece of chicken flung off her fork and onto the table beside us. The senior couple, who were trying to enjoy their eighteen-dollar salads, glared at us like we each had two heads.

“I’m so sorry,” I mouthed to them.

“I can’t believe you would miss your best friend’s wedding over a tiny, little, uncomfortable inconvenience like this.”

“A cockroach infestation is a tiny inconvenience. Gonorrhea is uncomfortable. What you’re asking me to do is far worse.”

“Don’t be dramatic,” Sapphire said, waving her hand. “Dustin is not that bad.”

“Isn’t he?” He was too tall, too fit, too classically pretty, and all too aware of the fact. He was narcissistic and untrustworthy, but he was also charming and exceptionally good at putting on an innocent act. He could flash his white teeth and his dimples and get people to believe anything he wanted. Still, if you looked into his eyes, you could tell he was soulless.

“Why would you want everyone to join you on your honeymoon, anyway?” I shifted focus. “I hate to tell you this, but if you can’t stand to be alone with Justin for ten days, you probably shouldn’t marry him.”

“Very funny,” she said dryly. “I want everyone there because I want my wedding to be an experience. An amazing memory we can all look back on together.”

“I am not spending ten days, on a tiny boat, in the middle of the Caribbean, with him.”

“It’s a cruise ship,” she corrected. “Besides, you won’t be with Dustin. You’ll be with me.”

“Lies!” I wasn’t buying any of it. “I know exactly what will happen. You and Justin will be too busy enjoying your Caribbean honeymoon to spend any time with me. Then I’ll be trapped, in the middle of the ocean, with no one to talk to except Beelzebub’s concubine.”

“He’s not going to be the only other person there, you know. Several other people will be in our group. You can make one of them your wingman. My father loves you. You can hang-out with him.”

“Honey, don’t take this the wrong way. If I’m on an exotic vacation, and the only man who wants to spend time with me is your sixty-five-year-old arthritic father, I might drown myself in a bathtub.”

“Don’t be silly,” Sapphire dismissed. “You’ll be surrounded by water. There’d be no need to draw a bath.”

I did not look amused.

“I can’t believe you’re still so angry. It’s been over a year.” It had been eighteen months since the breakup, and yes, I was still harboring, hurting, and hating.

I hadn’t seen or spoken to Dustin since the incident. As instructed, he had been gone when I returned to the apartment. With Sapphire’s help and some very strategic planning, I had avoided him throughout the entire decoupling process.

I left yellow Post-it Notes on everything he could take and was extremely vindictive about it. He could have the Blu-ray player, but not the discs or the TV. He could take the kitchen table, but not the chairs. I even kept the Keurig, though I permitted him to take his pods. What kind of monster drank decaf anyway? I also instructed Sapphire to guard the jazz record collection with her life. I detested jazz music, and we both knew it. I planned to pawn or destroy the albums later.

The first few weeks after the breakup, Dustin tried tirelessly to communicate with me. He sent me text messages that I didn’t answer and left voice mails that I refused to listen to. Dustin tried everything short of smoke signals. He even sent me an old-fashioned letter, which I didn’t open and burned immediately. I had nothing to say to him and had no desire to hear what he had to say to me. I had never been an incredibly trusting person, and his betrayal had reinforced all those walls that I had been trying, for years, to dismantle.

Being the forgiving person she was, Sapphire tried to convince me to give Dustin a second chance. Still, I refused, steadfast in my determination that he’d had his chance. Since then, she had been careful not to mention him. Even though I knew full well that she saw him regularly. He was her fiancé’s twin brother. She had to remain cordial. I did not and had no intention of ever being so.

“You simply have to come. We’re going to so many beautiful islands: Turks and Caicos, Bonaire, St. Thomas, and Aruba. You’ve always wanted to go to Aruba.”

That was true, but still, “If you put us on a ship together, I promise you, I will throw him overboard.”

She smiled wide, her teeth gleaming white against the contrast of her chocolate skin. “That’s fine! Just promise you’ll make it look like an accident.”

“Duh,” was the most mature response I could muster. “I don’t want to end up someone’s bitch in a Caribbean prison.”

“Don’t you, though?”

Dirty, prison sex would have been the most action I’d seen in a while. Thirty-nine may have been young by hetero standards, but in the queer world, I was practically a spinster. Being classified as an elder gay meant that my dating pool had been reduced to a few categories. First, those men who were so weird or creepy that nobody wanted them, or second, those who were so bitter and jaded by relationships past that dating them was like trying to build a house out of straw. I was a card-carrying member of category two.

Of course, there was always a third group. Younger men. They were excellent in theory, with their zero percent body fat and their permanent erections. However, too often, their perfect bodies and sexual appetites only camouflaged the fact that they lacked any real substance. If brains were dynamite, most of them couldn’t blow their nose. There were always exceptions. Old souls that knew how to converse about more than just Rhi-Rhi’s new album or T-Swizzle’s latest boyfriend. Those younger men wanted more than sugar daddies. Though, I still couldn’t imagine having enough in common with someone who hadn’t even been alive during the original run of Friends.

It wasn’t that I couldn’t get a date. Even close to forty, I was still cute. Not as attractive as I was at twenty, but I wasn’t a hunchback or anything. My deep green eyes matched my red hair, which I kept cropped short to avoid the bozo-clown-realness it would become if left to grow-out. I was tall and still decently shaped, a little thicker in some places than I’d prefer, but that came with age. At least, that’s what I told myself. I had a good understanding of where that put me in the queer hierarchy. Guys would still bang me; they just wouldn’t brag about it anymore.

Admittedly, the realization that I was no longer prime real estate took some getting used to. Before Dustin, I had been a penthouse in Manhattan, but after fifteen years in couple-town, I was shocked to discover I was now a brownstone in Queens. Next stop? Condemned building in Jersey!

That being said, I was optimistic about my life, even if it meant spending it alone.

“The ship is huge,” Sapphire was still talking. “You won’t even really have to see each other. There are also excursions at every port: zip-lining, snorkeling, hikes, surfing. Come on. You can orbit around each other for ten days without committing a violent felony.”

“Great, so I can spend the entire time by myself?”

“There’s going to be thousands of people on this ship. It’s a floating city. If you’re so worried about being by yourself, you could always try making friends.”

“You’ve known me for twenty years. Am I the type of person who makes friends?”

I was about to find out.

_______________________________________________________________________

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Storm Warning is an entertaining whirlwind romance by Thom Collins. My first time reading this author, I am delightfully interested in checking out his other works.

Jamie and Dexter meet on a cruise. Jamie is a man loaded down with grief, as well as being stuck with physical and mental scars after losing his husband. Honestly, this should be a whole book on it's own. The tragedy of Jamie's experience is heart-breaking. But, as this is his second chance at love, he meets Dexter and the two work to overcome their issues together.

Dexter's a confusing man. Used to hook ups, he's suddenly finding them empty and soul sucking afterwards. His connection with Jamie is actually on a mental level which is a nice change. As for his other hookup, it really pissed me off, yet definitely helped establish his character.

Written in alternating third person pov, both men are well developed, charming characters with an intriguing storyline.  The author adds in many interesting, as well as haughty characters. Dexter's mom is a hoot, and is definitely an entertaining character in her own right. The cruise is well written, with even the weather playing a factor. I am certainly jealous and wish I could have been on this cruise.

Storm Warning is ultimately a story of overcoming grief and pain. This Thom Collins read is a tale of taking chances and trying to live again.  And with a suspenseful ending, I definitely am looking forward to finding out what happens next.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” he said, gazing into the night. Straight ahead he could see nothing but dark, the blackness was complete, but leaning on the balcony and looking down, he saw the moderate swell of the ocean and the white-capped waves hitting the side of the ship.

“We’re moving at a fair speed,” Jamie said, glancing at the wake they gave off.

“I suppose we have to, to cover the miles.”

Jamie stepped near to him, their upper arms touching as they stood against the railing.

He’s regaining his composure, Dexter thought.

Somewhere inside Jamie was a desire to be loved again, Dexter was sure of it. To be desired and wanted and not to spend the rest of his life alone. His love for Tyler could never be doubted, but Jamie was too young, had too much of his life remaining, to be on his own forever.

Dexter took a mouthful of champagne and swallowed, choosing his words. “I know this is new for you, and that it can’t be easy. I don’t want you to do anything you don’t want to, or aren’t ready for. What I’m trying to say is this is all up to you. How much or how little we do together, you decide. I won’t push you into anything.”

Jamie took a deep breath and sighed. He moved his hand from the railing and put it on Dexter’s waist. “I know what I want. And he’s standing right here.”

Dexter turned to face him. How handsome, how striking he looked, in the early hours of the morning, so far out to sea. He caressed Jamie’s face with the tips of his fingers, along his cheek and the lean length of his jaw. “You’re taking my breath away right now; I hope you realise that.”

Jamie put his own hand on top of Dexter’s. “Let’s go inside.”

Honeymoon Sweet (Out & About #2) by Allison Temple

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

Doug is a cheese pizza kind of guy. A honeymoon cruise around the Caribbean is the most adventurous thing he’s ever done. Going on that honeymoon alone is unthinkable, but here he is, with a luxury suite and a broken heart.

Tripp is a hopeless romantic. He’s in a sinking relationship that’s been taking on water for months. He’d throw in the towel if he had one, but he’s naked and locked out of his room.

No one should be on a cruise alone, and Tripp has a simple solution: he and Doug will pretend to be husbands and enjoy everything a week of sea and sun has to offer. But as the days and nights heat up, can a cheese pizza kind of guy be brave enough to give love a second chance?

Honeymoon Sweet is a 63k contemporary MM romance. It’s sweet enough to require a trip to the dentist, and hot enough you’ll need a swim to cool off when it’s over. HEA guaranteed.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Honeymoon Sweet is a beautiful, feel good insta-love romance by Allison Temple. The second book in her Out & About series, it's perfectly delightful.

Doug and Tripp are two men who both thought they were happy. Ends up they were both wrong. One was left at the altar. The other is suddenly realizing that his relationship is one that is really only friends with benefits. The result is a
fake fiance relationship story that is charming as can be.

This is a story of learning the importance of being friends first, before starting a relationship based on only sex. This aspect is well explored and well developed. It's a story of learning a lot about oneself, resulting in a significant amount of self growth.

Doug and Tripp are two men who could easily fall in love, but it doesn't seem possible. Or real. After all, can you trust insta love?

The writing style is fantastic, instantly pulling the reader in, and keeping them intrigued throughout. The storyline and character development is both entertaining and riveting. There is plenty of humor, including some ridiculous nicknames that had me laughing throughout.

Honeymoon Sweet is a romance of self reflection and self growth. Allison Temple had me soothed and happy throughout this story of second chances at love. This story of f
inding someone who loves you as you are is perfect when you're in the mood for a easy, yet fulfilling read.

Between Taylor’s suitcase of sexy fun, Bart’s surprising romantic side, and an unexpected Tropical Storm, these men will realize that being up the creek without a paddle is sometimes exactly where you’re meant to be.
Author Note: This book is a stand-alone which follows two characters who were first introduced in the Just the Way You Are series of books. It is not necessary to have read those books to enjoy this one. However, if you’re curious about their world, there’s more to explore!

Review
My Rating - 5 Stars!

Damn, Abigail Kade's contribution to Valentine's Inc Cruises, Up Ship Creek, is fantastic!

Taylor and Bart are two men who end up as roommates on their cruise. From the start they have great dynamics, but the lingerie just adds so much heat to their relationship.

Taylor has long liked Bart, the man he now discovers can fulfill all his sexual desires. Damn, they are hot together! It's a friend who packs nothing but lingerie in Taylor's bag. What follows is some fun role play together, and more.

I love it. All of it. It's extremely entertaining and intriguing. It's full of hilarious  innuendos and dirty talk, which is something I always enjoy.

Overall, Up Ship Creek is a deliciously hot read. Read it. Just read it. Abigail Kade definitely doesn't disappoint with this treat.
