Cover Design: Meredith Russell

Laurel Holidays Series

The Christmas Oaks - All Buy Links
The Christmas Pundit - All Buy Links

A trip that he thought would bring him only pain is about to present him with the greatest gift of all.

For three years now, Cabriolet Vermat has put off, wiggled out of, and outright lied to get out of making this dreaded trip east. The owner of Cabriolet Chauffeur Services in Los Angeles has avoided the yearly invitation to the small town of White Bridge, New York, to speak at their alumni winter gathering but this year they’ve outfoxed him. They’re throwing a dinner to honor his late partner’s dedication to his alma mater and have asked Cab to speak. This time he has to go no matter how much pain it will stir up. Arriving in the picturesque small town beside one of the Finger Lakes, Cab is treated to a special performance of holiday songs and there he sees Julian Gabriel Baez for the first time.

The young singer captivates him immediately, and he finds hims
elf seeking out the much younger man after the performance. The pull he feels toward Jules is unlike anything he’s felt since he met his partner years ago. Confusion and desire war within him, but the outgoing young tenor wins him over with his engaging smile and kind heart. A two-day trip soon turns into an extended holiday vacation. Cab worries that the magic of Christmas will quickly fizzle out and he’ll be alone once more. Or will this festive season bestow a blessing of the heart upon a man who thought he would never love again?

The Christmas Tenor is a standalone small-town gay Christmas romance with a beautiful May-December relationship, a lonely widower, a rising opera star, loving families, and plenty of holiday joy.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

The Christmas Tenor is a sweet holiday romance by VL Locey. The third book in the Laurel Holidays series, it's a nice standalone read.

This is a great read that features an age gap, an opera singer, and an older widow. Cab is a widower who's intrigued by the younger singer, but has a long way to go before fully opening his heart again.

As usual for this author, the writing is great, with well developed characters, a nice storyline, and plenty of romance. This is all told from the older man's pov, so we don't get a glimpse into Jules' feelings, but I can easily overlook that, as Cab has a lot of personal baggage to work through.

The Christmas Tenor is a perfect choice when you're in the mood for a tender, heart-warming holiday romance. VL Locey delights again with this age gap romance.

Not This Time by MA Binfield

Sofia is tired: of touring, of her record company, of her fake boyfriend. After collapsing on stage, she’s forced to recuperate at her beach house.

Madison feels settled for the first time in a long while. She’s back home in Miami and her interior design business is thriving. So what if she’s a little lonely, the universe will send her someone when she’s ready. But Madison soon discovers the universe has a sick sense of humor when Sofia turns out to be her new client. Once upon a time, they were bandmates in America’s hottest girl band. Their biggest secret? They were in love―the forever and ever kind―until Sofia told Madison she was going solo.

Flung back into each other’s lives, each is forced to face the hurt they caused the other. But maybe, just maybe, Sofia’s new single, “Not This Time,” is the universe playing matchmaker again.

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

Not This Time is an interesting second chance, lesbian romance by MA Binfield.

Sofia and Maddie were once secretly dating, as they were in a band together. But, with the complications of managers, bad advice, and the business in general, they separated and lost contact for 5 years.

Now, Maddie is working as a designer for Sofia, helping her redesign her house. They still have chemistry, and their want and need is well established.

The story in general is enjoyable though. I love the famous aspect, the fake relationships, and the overbearing mother. It's messy, complicated, and fun to read. The fake boyfriend is way more than Sofia ever agreed to, and makes for an interesting complication.

It's a serious book, heavy on the emotions and conflict, but the ending is never in doubt. Instead of worrying, we are gifted with their long journey towards coming together.

The one thing I didn't love was the lack of background about Maddie's son, Mateo. I wish I would have known the details about his father and his birth. We get a small glimpse eventually, but it still didn't satisfy me.

Not This Time is a good choice when you're in the mood for a second chance lesbian romance. MA Binfield definitely delivers with all the feels.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Lost in the Florist is a great small town romance by Riley Long and Marie Cole. There is lots to love about this book. Friends to lovers is a delightful trope, and these two friends don't disappoint.

A mix of a famous, closeted singer and small town life, these two best friends are faced with revealing their truths to one another. Jax is back in town after being away for years. He has some things to tell his best friend, Emmett.

Dear lord, the emotions in this one hit me hard. The fear and hesitation is certainly painful. A story of taking chances, revealing secrets and desires, and risking it all, I love it! Every single second of this book had me captivated.

This is a story with miscommunication and misunderstandings, so avoid this book if those are a hard limit for you. It includes an entertaining grandmother, an alcoholic father, and some fantastic friends.

The downfalls of living in a small town are well illustrated, including the lack of a lgbt community. As well, there's some other aspects displayed, which certainly add to the storyline.

Jax's alcoholism is well done and completely realistic. It isn't heavily explored, yet still makes an impact.

Lost in the Florist is a fast read that left me satisfied. Riley Long & Marie Cole definitely delight in this sweet and sexy coming out story. I am excited to see what comes next in this series.

Jax

The second Jax placed his can in the cup holder, his phone started vibrating. His heart leapt a little, but when he flipped the phone over, he saw that it was just his manager, not his best friend Emmett calling to tease him with more mental imagery of the blow job he’d always dreamed of--not that Emmett knew that. Jax had kept that little fantasy very close to his chest throughout high school. Their small town wasn’t exactly the gay man’s safe haven and the jocks had a reputation for being extremely anti-queer. Jax hadn’t thought Emmett was anti-queer, but he was on the football team, and Jax knew if there was even a sniff of male on male activity that it would spread like wildfire through the school. Part of him still regretted not saying “Fuck it” and kissing his best friend when he’d had the chance. He’d come close once.

He swiped the screen to answer the phone and scooped it up. “Hey, Ron.” In his free hand, he picked up the remote for the TV and turned it on, quickly muting the volume and switching it over to the internet browser. He pinned the phone between his ear and his shoulder.

“Jax, hey. Just calling to tell you everything’s all arranged.”

“Uh, what’s that now?” Jax was already only half-listening to Ron, attempting to navigate the TV’s browser to pornpornporn.com at the same time.

“The R&R you asked for. The time off. We’ve got it all arranged. You’re going to be staying in a little cabin about a thirty minute drive outside of Camellia. The cabin is already reserved. Do you need me to send someone to stay with you? Sophia maybe?”

The double-meaning was thick in Ron’s tone, catching Jax’s full attention. “Ron, there was only one time that the paparazzi took pictures of me with her. And I told you, we didn’t actually do anything. It was all just coincidental. Uh, circumstantial. Whatever that word is. It just looked compromising. There’s no actual evidence that we hooked up because nothing happened.” He let his gaze travel across the screen, thumbnails of naked guys in all sorts of configurations, waiting for him to choose. “Besides, I’m going there to surprise my best friend, not to get laid.”

“Sure, sure, whatever you say. Listen, it’s none of my business, I’m just trying to keep you happy.” Ron cleared his throat. “The cabin is all yours in a little over a week.”

“This time off is all I need to stay happy. A couple of weeks of rest before the wolves start howling at my door again.” He spotted an image of a muscular man with short brown hair and a beard, frozen in mid-kiss with a guy with a lean, sculpted body, and clicked on it. Immediately, the video took up his full screen and started playing, the two men on a couch, wearing nothing but underwear and making out. His dick twitched and started to grow. “Listen, Ron, I gotta go. Something’s just come up and I need to take care of it. Thanks again. Bye.” He pressed the button to end the call without waiting for a confirmation from his manager and tossed the phone on the bed next to him again.

BLITZ & REVIEW - MF - The Van Birch Incident (The Incident #1) by Marla Holt

The Van Birch Incident:

A Rock Star Romance
by Marla Holt

(The Incident Series, #1)
Publication date: May 21st 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Amazon US - Available in KU

Van Birch: Pop Star. A-list starlet. Off-limits.

Clay Noble has spent the better part of a decade avoiding his taboo obsession: His stepsister Van. In love with her since the first time he’d heard her sing, even shipping himself off to the army couldn’t stop thoughts of her. Now that he’s lost everything in a tornado, he’s forced to move back in with the only family he has left, Van and her dad. Sleeping down the hall from her is forcing every unwanted impulse back to the surface.

Clay Noble: Gorgeous. Infuriating. Untouchable.

Everything Van touches turns to gold with a side of outrageous. When she accuses her manager of sexual assault, the public thinks it’s just another one of her publicity stunts and the backlash is brutal. Wounded, she dashes home to a tornado-devastated Wellville, Kansas to heal and help rebuild, even though the constant stream of social media doubts and threats won’t let her rest. But there’s another reason for her sleepless nights and fevered dreams. Clay is back, hotter than ever, and his lingering glances and stolen moments have her convinced the feelings she’s fought for so long may not be one sided after all.

******

The Van Birch Incident marries forbidden romance, bordering on taboo with a little danger and a guaranteed happily ever after, while exploring how social media and real life collide in a post #metoo world where the internet never sleeps.

My Rating - 4 Stars!

The Van Birch Incident had me hooked on page one. This Marla Holt book is the first in The Incident series and it starts off with a whole lot of action. Hollywood, rape, the Me Too Movement, and a tornado start this one off in a riveting manner.

What follows is a stepsibling romance that's messy and complicated. Van and Clay have been attracted to each other since their early teens, before they became stepsiblings. With a tornado bringing Van back to town, they have a chance to finally clear the air and come clean with one another.

Their story is full of complications, pretenses, and some messy relationships between others. In fact, be prepared for a lot of side characters. Each of them has their own things taking place and you need to really pay attention to who is who.

The writing style is okay. It's not my favorite but it's nothing to turn me off either. But it's the plot that kept me intrigued and turning those pages quickly. This is definitely not a story for everyone. But for me, I just needed to know what was going to happen for this couple.

There are a few things I don't like. Some things are glossed over, and I would have preferred some more background at times. My biggest issue though is that Van is used as a girls name. I found it distracting, constantly thinking it was two guys together. Then again, I read mostly gay romance, so that shouldn't be a surprise.

And again, be warned about the rape scene. It happens off page, but the aftermath is heavily felt throughout. In addition, the lack of believing the female rape victim is a constant in this story, which will definitely turn some people off.

The Van Birch Incident is an emotional romance that is full of some serious topics. It's a long read, so make sure you set some time aside for this one. Now I am just waiting for the next in the series!

Clay didn’t want to crowd her, but he needed to touch her, to make sure she was all right. He warred with himself as he slowly approached her, trying to shove his needs aside and focus on her. When she didn’t flinch away, Clay cupped Van’s jaw in his hand and angled her head so that she met his eyes.

“Hey,” he said in the most soothing voice he could muster. It was not a tone Clay used often. “Are you okay?”

She shook her head and leaned into his palm. Her chest heaved, and Clay covered the hand she held over her heart with his own. Her heart was pounding scary fast. He thought that maybe Van was having a panic attack. She’d had them a few times when they’d been teenagers.

Clay was vaguely aware of Michael, muttering to himself and getting to his feet, over his shoulder. Van’s eyes shot to him, and her breath came even faster. She was going to hyperventilate.

“Don’t look at him,” Clay said, capturing her gaze again. “Look at me. Good. Now, breathe with me.” He stepped in close, putting their hands over his heart. Clay’s heartbeat wasn’t exactly slow and steady, but it was calmer than hers.

Van closed her eyes and matched the rise and fall of her chest to his. Finally, she relaxed into him, her head rolling onto his shoulder.

“I have to give a speech in a few minutes.” Her voice was wavering and muffled by his shirt.

“Take some time. They’ll wait for you,” Clay said and wrapped his arms more fully around her. He wanted to rail at her, to tell her she needed 24-hour security, but now wasn’t the time.

“Thank you,” she said. “I—” She balled her fingers into his shirt.

“Shhh.”

Clay chanced a glance over his shoulder, and Michael had disappeared. Good riddance, fuckwad.

He tightened his hold on Van and held her until both their heart rates had returned to normal. At some point, they’d started to sway together. His thumb caressed the curve of her waist, and he felt Van’s nose graze his neck. A second later, her lips brushed over the hollow of Clay’s throat.

Her balled fist flattened against his chest, and he pressed his palm into the small of her back. The swaying stopped, and when she raised her eyes to his, the shift in mood was so swift and fierce, Clay barely registered the decision to kiss her before their lips crashed together.

Van tasted like whiskey but also hot and sweet in a flavor that was something all her own. Her lips were naturally plump and supple, and her tongue was like velvet against Clay’s as he delved into her mouth again and again. His mind spun with desire as Van’s hands couldn’t decide where to stay. They roamed up and down his chest, over his shoulders and into his hair before starting all over.

The brush of her nails at the nape of Clay’s neck pulled a groan from his chest. She didn’t resist as Clay eased her back against the wall and pressed against as much of her small, soft body as he could. She moaned as he ground against her and kissed his way down her neck.

They’d kissed before. Just the once. It had been intense, but not like this. There had been electricity, but there hadn’t been this bald longing like there was now, like maybe Van wanted him as much as he wanted her. Like maybe she always had but was only just now willing to admit it.

“Clay.” The word was almost a gasp as her leg wrapped around his, pulling him closer as he ground against her again.

God, he wanted her. He wanted her here, now.

Clay was contemplating wrapping her legs around his waist and hiking her skirt up when he heard voices approaching.

He and Van stilled at the same time. Clay’s blood was thrumming inside him, telling him to press on, to pull her closer, to pull

down his zipper, brush aside her panties, and finish this. He couldn’t make himself step away from her. Not yet. Not when he was

so close.

SYNOPSIS

Harley

What happens when the most successful boy band on the planet breaks up?
How about twenty thousand fans screaming my name.
But the price of fame comes with an increased risk to my safety.

I’ve been avoiding the dreaded B word for as long as I can, but after a close call with a rambunctious fan, I can’t do it anymore.

It’s time to give in.
I need to hire a full-time bodyguard.

And when he shows up, he not only screams badass, he’s another B word I try to stay away from: boyfriend material.

Brix

Protecting people is not what my company usually does, but the boss knows I need money, and the pop star is offering an insane amount to live with him and make sure no more crazy fans break into his house.

I’m doing it for the money and nothing else.

He may be the prettiest man I’ve ever seen, and I may feel sorry for the celebrity life he’s been forced into since he was a teenager, but that doesn’t mean anything.

Just because he fascinates me, that doesn’t mean I like him.

It doesn’t.

Professionalism. I’m gonna live it. Breathe it. Enforce it … Mostly.

Review
My Rating - 5 Stars!

Wow, Eden Finley's Pop Star is a delightful bodyguard romance. After meeting Harley in Hat Trick, it's a nice surprise to get his story. That said, you do not need to have read Hat Trick to enjoy this book.

Harley and Brix capture my attention immediately, quickly working their ways into my heart. Their story is full of humor and sweetness. A combo of rock star, a stalker, bodyguards, and love songs, it's nonstop fun.

A closeted rocker who's controlled by his record label, Harley's been forced to have a beard, Evah. Their relationship though is wonderful, as they are great friends who love each other. They just don't have any romantic feelings for one another. I can't get enough of their friendship, as it's as strong as it is precious.

And then there's Brix, the ex military man turned bodyguard. He doesn't want this assignment but can't resist the payout involved. What follows are non stop thrills as the reader is treated to Brix becoming a live-in bodyguard who has a secret.

Together, they make an interesting and strong couple; full of banter, quick wit, and a tension filled attraction. Their story is one of passion and intrigue. And damn, I love that Brix isn't the stereotypical "take charge" man in the bedroom. This is always a fun surprise, and the author executes it perfectly.

The banter between the two men is a riot. My favorite part has to be the rules Harley establishes for Brix, which left me snickering throughout. I could picture the antics as if I was there, and couldn't stop laughing.

Written in first person pov, the writing style and character depth are both stupendous. The author excels in differentiating between Harley's pop star persona and the man behind the facade. His sweet and insecure sides are well written, as he develops into a fabulous multi-layered character. As well, she impresses with the way she gets into the characters heads, giving the reader the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the men are thinking.

The author does an excellent job delving into some serious topics, including the downsides of fame, the ugly sides of military life, and the unfairness of the American health care system. It's all well done, handled with care and understanding.

There are a fair share of scary moments and creepy feels, but most of the story is sugary sweet, helping to keep the eeriness and angst factor in check.

Overall, Pop Star is an intoxicating read. This Eden Finley book satisfies with a great mix of suspense and romance. This is definitely a swoon worthy read. Best of all, there are plenty of new characters introduced that I am hoping to see get their own stories.

SERIES TOUR - Bodyguards Inc Series by RJ Scott

Bodyguards to a Sex God
(Bodyguards Inc #1)

Blurb

Bodyguard Adam Freeman draws what everyone else thinks is the short straw at the convention for a procedural cop show - as bodyguard to TV actor Logan Brady. Or as the Internet has labelled him, Logan 'Sex God' Brady.

Logan is taking part in a convention at a London Hotel for his show 'Night Cop' and someone is threatening his life.

Adam gets more than he bargained for when his client combines coming out of the closet with them both trying to stay alive.

Review
My Rating - 4 Stars!

Bodyguard to a Sex God is an entertaining action/romance by RJ Scott.

Adam and Logan meet when Adam is hired to be Logan's bodyguard. Logan's been getting threats, and he's also struggling with being closeted and having to keep up the pretend girlfriend ruse. Of course, we end up with a fantastic bodyguard/charge romance.

There's some secrets, attraction, suspense, and I loved every minute. It's riveting and you won't want to put it down. Adam turns out to be way more than just another "pretty boy" and can't help but to be attracted to him.

The stalker parts are written well, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes. Of course, crossing the line between bodyguard/charge to lovers certainly will always make things less secure.

I adore Logan and Adam together. They're cute together, and things progress at a great pace. The sex scenes are hot, and steamy.

I love the scenes with the fans, as I've been to events similar to those described.

If you enjoy bodyguard romances, Bodyguards to a Sex God is sure to please!

The Ex Factor
(Bodyguards Inc #2)

Blurb

When Bodyguard, Ben Collins, finds Daniel Lincoln in a room, hiding and hurt, he doesn't immediately think Daniel is the victim of abuse. Daniel is good at pretending and being a finalist in a TV singing competition he seems like he has it made.

But something about Daniel calls to Ben's need to protect and he hands Daniel a card to contact him if ever Daniel needed help. Abruptly, after one frightened phone call from Daniel, Ben is racing to Daniel's aid and what he finds is a horror he can't imagine.

Daniel is trapped in a relationship where anger and controlling hate are the only emotions he is given. When his boyfriend crosses the line and leaves Daniel vulnerable and broken there is only one man that he wants to call.

The sexy bodyguard who promised he could help him.

Review
My Rating - 5 Stars!

The Ex Factor, book two in RJ Scott's Bodyguards Inc series, is fantastic.

Ben meets Daniel while Daniel's a contestant on a TV Singing competition. He sees things about Daniel that are off, but he's not quite sure what is happening.

When Daniel contacts Ben later, he is at rock bottom. The level of abuse from his boyfriend has escalated and Daniel wants help.

What follows is a beautiful story of Daniel falling for Ben who's now his bodyguard. It's tender and romantic, along with scary and suspenseful. Daniel's ex is not going to back away easily, posing danger to Daniel in multiple ways.

I love the way Daniel feels for Ben. Their relationship ends up being so emotional and I loved every moment.

I love The Ex Factor, and I highly recommend this Bodyguards Inc series. I am elated to have finally discovered this amazing series.

Max and The Prince
(Bodyguards Inc #3)

Blurb

Bodyguard Max Connery is used to being mistaken for being younger than he is.

Being carded every time he buys a beer is usual. Even though he's just turned twenty eight and has two tours in Afghanistan as a pilot under his belt.

When a threat is made on the life of a prince attending University in the UK, Max is the perfect choice to blend in with the mixed house of students and to keep Prince Lucien safe. Even if it means joining the swim team to be by his side.

But, when death visits the halls, abruptly this job is a long way past keeping the prince happy and safe. Instead Max has to keep Lucien alive.

Review
My Rating - 5 Stars!

Max and The Prince, is the third book in RJ Scott's Bodyguard Inc series.

It will keep you guessing, keep you invested in the events, and you'll fall in love with Max and Lucian. They are so damn sweet together. I adore Lucien for just wanting someone to see the real man beneath the title. And Max definitely took his time falling for him, but it's perfectly done.

The plot definitely has it's share of twists and turns, leaving the reader guessing. There are dead bodies, attacks, and a stalker to deal with, keeping the action flowing.

Undercover Lovers
(Bodyguards Inc #4)

Blurb

Even if Ross and Kyle make it out of this alive, will the secrets in Kyle's heart stay safe? Kyle gets caught up in a case that is entirely unrelated to Bodyguards Inc. Not only does he abruptly need time off, but he has to have absolute trust and complete support from Ross without being able to tell Ross a thing.

CIA Agent Stefan Mortimer needs Kyle's help with a case of a geneticist and a missing formula. Trouble is being led right to Kyle’s door, endangering the life of the team he has built and the man that he loves.

Going undercover, with Ross as his fiance, is the worst kind of torture in so many ways, but it is the only answer. Kyle and Ross may well live through this but Kyle is convinced his heart won't survive.

Review
My Rating - 5 Stars!

In Undercover Lovers, we get Kyle's story, which I was so excited to read.

Kyle's been in love with Ross, but Ross is oblivious. Now they're off on an undercover assignment as newlyweds. Yes please!

I love these two men together. The uncertainty, the longing, ahh. The work case is different that the others, but it's still fun and full of drama. It'd definitely a great read!

Love's Design took me a while to get into, both the storyline and the romance. But, I did start to enjoy this one too. Stefan's a bodyguard who ends up helping out Kirby and his family. It's a sweet, slow burn, with a great ending. And, bonus points, it takes place at Christmastime.

Kissing Alex
(Bodyguards Inc #6)

Blurb

Martial arts expert Lewis is the kind of bodyguard who slips under most people’s radar. Quiet, reserved, but constantly on alert, he’ll do his job, keep his charges safe, then relax by reading Shakespeare in his spare time.

When he’s given a case involving a spoiled celebrity singer, Lewis isn’t all that impressed. The job is nothing but babysitting a pretty boy, and he’s used to diplomatic postings with depth and challenge. What could he possibly have in common with the man he’s being forced to look after?

Alex became the envy of many when he and his fellow bandmates won second place in a huge TV talent show. He has more money than he knows what to do with, no life goals, an ex-boyfriend selling a sex tape and now, someone who wants him dead, or at the very least maimed.

Can Lewis keep Alex safe, even when things usually in his control go to hell? Is running to a remote Scottish island the only way for them to stay alive?

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Kissing Alex is the 6th book in the Bodyguards Inc series, and it's sweet with a little bit of angst. A bodyguard and a boy band member who needs to hide out for a bit. Sign me up!

Lewis is hired to protect Alex, taking him away to his remote island to hide out.
Lewis is a loyal man, dedicated to his family's land and protective of his harges. His family are entertaining and a good addition to the story.

Alex is a good guy, really likes his musical career, dancing included. He's out, but everything has to be on the down-low, which is highly frustrating. I enjoy that he's a nice guy and not a spoiled ass.

The island and all of it's charm are well written and an important character on it's own. I really enjoyed this part, especially the way Alex falls in love with the island too.

It's a slow burn romance entwined with a light action/suspense plot, as the people after Alex are a crime family. And yes, there is a kilt scene!

Kissing Alex definitely holds up to the rest of the books in the series, and I am happy to have discovered these books.
