Destination Wedding by Jason Collins

Blurb

BARRETT:

I'm straight, single, and divorced. Two of those might change.

Being accidentally kidnapped could be worse. I get a trip to the Hamptons, a seat at a luxury wedding, and a week with the hottest man I’ve ever laid eyes on. Maybe I ought to fly private more often.

Zach’s no snobby millionaire, though. He’s got a good heart, and a body that makes it hard to see straight anymore. At this rate, it won’t be long before we’re tearing into each other like it’s our own honeymoon.

He’s a groomsman for his brother, but he needs some support of his own—the kind he can only get behind closed doors. He comes from money, and his family wants things to be perfect. But we don’t have time for perfection, and if we can’t bring this family together, Groomzilla might call the whole thing off.

The bouquet’s in the air, but I’m reaching for Zach.

ZACH:

Who hasn’t accidentally kidnapped a date every now and then?

My brother’s getting married in the Hamptons, and I need a plus-one. But I didn’t expect it to be a stranger who unintentionally boarded the plane. I’m sharing a flight with Barrett, but it feels a lot like a first date. He’s agreed to be my companion, and that means a week of chaotic pre-wedding events.

A straight, divorced EMT isn’t the kind of date my family is expecting, but then, I wasn’t expecting him to start sizing me up for more than just a wedding tux. Not only is he charming my relatives, he’s also making me think about jumping for the bouquet.

My family of wealthy hoteliers can be a handful. Barrett’s from a different world, but I’m hoping they’ll accept him—if this week doesn’t kill us first.

This wedding needs Barrett, and he’s the best man for the job.

Note to readers: This is an extra spicy standalone MM romance. Readers can expect two passionate men and several steamy scenes that will leave you breathless.

Destination Wedding, by Jason Collins is a fun fake boyfriend romance. It has a lot of things I enjoy in addition to the fake boyfriend trope; accidental meeting, wedding antics, entertaining family members, a groomzilla, and more.

I enjoyed this one a lot. The situation of their meeting and arrangement is funny and unique. The attraction is instant and they are quick to act on it. They are two men who are very different from their appearances, providing us with some wonderful, heartfelt moments.

Off to the Hamptons for a family wedding, the area is well described, adding to the fun. Zach and Barrett are men from completely opposite worlds. Watching Barrett's introduction to the land of the elite is certainly entertaining. One thing that stood out to me is Barrett's ability to relate to Zach and others on a human level, despite their extreme differences. Basically, I love Barrett.

The wedding adventures had me laughing, despite the emotion of it. It definitely just kept people on their toes. But, the real humor comes from the easy way Zach and Barrett make up stories together. They are seamless with their improvisation; it's impressive and hysterical.

Destination Wedding it a beautiful tale of acceptance. Accidentally placed together, it seems that fate took over and sent them on their way. Honestly, this is a perfect feel-good romance.

Slide

Don’t look back. Don’t you ever look back…

Shy tattoo artist Ash has a troubled past. Years of neglect, drug abuse, and life on the streets have taken their toll, and sometimes it seems the deep, unspoken bond with his lover is the only balm for wounds he doesn’t quite understand.

Chicago paramedic Pete is warmth, love, and strength—things Ash never knew he could have, and never even knew he wanted until Pete showed him. But fate is a cruel, cruel mistress, and when nightmares collide with the present, their tentatively built world comes crashing down.

Traumatic events in Pete’s work life distance him from home, and he doesn’t realize until it’s too late that Ash has slipped away. Betrayal, secrets, and lies unfold, and when a devastating coincidence takes hold, Pete must fight with all he has to save the love of his life.

Slide, by Garrett Leigh is a gritty, tough read.

We get to know Ash and Pete and the way their relationship starts. They are sweet together, but there are some really tough parts to read. And then we learn of some even more traumatic events from Ash's past and I had to stop to remind myself that this is fiction.

The story is detailed, gutsy and jarring. Ash is broken, influenced by awful events in his past. He has finally found peace and strength in Pete, but things still aren't easy for him.

One of my favorite parts is early on, with the way that Pete comforts Ash in his sleep. This is so tender, sweet, and beautiful.

Slide is an emotional journey that will have you feeling every emotion along with them. Be prepared for tough upbringings, tragic events, physical and emotional scars, and some healing. Garrett Leigh has gifted us with a wonderful story of surviving abuse and learning to love yourself.

Rare

Paramedic Pete Adams lived through the year from hell watching his lover, Ash, fall apart, and the precarious balance between work and home is becoming more strained. His heart is always home, with Ash, but the dark side to his job is weighing him down.

Tattoo artist Ash Fagin is recovering from a nervous breakdown triggered by revelations about his traumatic childhood. His battle with mental illness is far from over, but with Pete by his side, he's feeling good again, so good he doesn’t notice something missing until it walks right into his living room.

Ash believes he’s had enough coincidence in his life, but when a voice from the past comes looking for him, it takes the devastating injuries of the one he loves most to convince him to let a ghost become the family he never knew he wanted.

Garrett Leigh's Rare is a heartwarming, yet complicated follow up to Slide.

In Rare, Ash and Pete are an established couple who have already dealt with a lot of their issues. Now we continue to follow their lives, as they face some more issues and dangers. We follow these deeply emotional characters as Ash meets his sister, and Pete is injured on the job.

The story line is creative, poignant, and thoughtful. Once again we are treated to two wonderful characters who are extremely well developed and who are perfect for one another. Their story is raw and intense, leaving me fully engrossed in their powerful tale. But throughout, they are completely devoted to one another and their intense love.

And, as always, they are quite hot and steamy together!

Rare is more than I ever expected, and I am thrilled to have found this book/series. Garrett Leigh excels at creating these characters and their amazing lives. She has a fantastic way with words and uses them to create magic.

Serve by Ian O. Lewis (The Men of Hidden Creek)

This is the 2nd book of the new series The Men of Hidden Creek that I have read.
And so far, I am loving this series.

In this book, Tyler and Chip meet when Tyler has a car accident.  Chip is an ENT.  And Tyler is a pro tennis player.  Ends up that Chip’s aunt works for Tyler.  As they get to know each other, Chip realises that he is attracted to Tyler.  He has never had feelings for a man before, but he cannot help but to kiss Tyler.

Chip’s aunt warns him that Tyler is closeted and that they shouldn’t date.  Tyler wants to retire soon, but not until he wins Wimbledon.  And he doesn’t want to be out while still playing.

When they do started dating, they have to do so in hiding.  When Tyler goes to tournaments, Chip follows.  And has to stay hidden.  It is not easy for Chip.  But Tyler is winning, feeling that his success is coming from having Chip there watching him play.  Tyler wants to continue to hide his sexuality so it doesn’t affect his playing, his comradery with the other players, his endorsements, etc.  He also wants to keep Chip a secret to protect Chip from the limelight.

I really loved the aspect of Tyler remaining closeted and fighting to do so.  I found it very realistic given the pressure that athletes are under, and how few come out while they are still playing.   That said, it was very sad to see Chip’s viewpoint of things when he has to stay hidden, even after leaving his home and job to follow Tyler.

Overall, this book has some of the key ingredients that I love in books:
-Hot athlete
-First time feelings for another guy
-The fight to stay in the closet or to come out
-A sweet romance
-And some blackmail

I definitely enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest in this new series!
