WOMEN'S FICTION - Three Words for Goodbye by Hazel Gaynor & Heather Webb

Amazon Link - Available in KU
Goodreads Link

From Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb, the bestselling authors of Meet Me in Monaco, comes a coming-of-age novel set in pre-WWII Europe, perfect for fans of Jennifer Robson, Beatriz Williams, and Kate Quinn.

Three cities, two sisters, one chance to correct the past . . .

New York, 1937: When estranged sisters Clara and Madeleine Sommers learn their grandmother is dying, they agree to fulfill her last wish: to travel across Europe—together. They are to deliver three letters, in which Violet will say goodbye to those she hasn’t seen since traveling to Europe forty years earlier; a journey inspired by famed reporter, Nellie Bly.

Clara, ever-dutiful, sees the trip as an inconvenient detour before her wedding to millionaire Charles Hancock, but it’s also a chance to embrace her love of art. Budding journalist Madeleine relishes the opportunity to develop her ambitions to report on the growing threat of Hitler’s Nazi party and Mussolini’s control in Italy.

Constantly at odds with each other as they explore the luxurious Queen Mary, the Orient Express, and the sights of Paris and  Venice,, Clara and Madeleine wonder if they can fulfil Violet’s wish, until a shocking truth about their family brings them closer together. But as they reach Vienna to deliver the final letter, old grudges threaten their reconciliation again. As political tensions rise, and Europe feels increasingly volatile, the pair are glad to head home on the Hindenburg, where fate will play its hand in the final stage of their journey.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Three Words for Goodbye is an intriguing historical fiction read by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb.

This is a tale of sisterhood, both the good and the bad.

Clara and Madeleine are are opposites as opposites can be. They don't get along. They have different interest and goals. And both are at a life changing point in life.

With a trip across the globe planned by their aunt, the two sisters set off on a journey that surprised them both. Their aunt had a mission for them, and the sisters have no clue what they are about to experience.

The setting is fabulous, with Hitler rising to power as the girls are traveling. With a first hand view at what's going on, the girls see more than they expected to see.

I love this journey overall. I don't want to give anything away, but the theme is well done and poignant.

The writing is strong, with everything well brought to life, and an atmosphere well illustrated. The twists and turns are interesting and riveting.

Three Words For Goodbye is well worth a read the next time you want to read about the bond of sisterhood. These writers combine to create an interesting tale with plenty of heart and emotions.

“Meow!”

There it was.

The sound that made my knees buckle.

He purred, neck stretched, eyes half-lidded.

With those cat ears, in his hair.

And the tail, that he flicked.

A ray of sun in the drizzling rain. I’d been a traveler, floating adrift, while he’d stayed in one place. How was I supposed to know he’d become my anchor? My light. My everything. But would I ever become his?

Black is an amazing kitty play romance by Quin Perin. Honestly, I am shocked with how much I love it.

Tony's visiting his sister and is instantly drawn to the beautiful man on the bench. Dima, that intriguing man on the bench is someone who ends up throwing his world into a loop.

Tony's a wanderer, who never stays long in one place. The only family he has is his sister, and while visiting her, he's compelled to explore what's developing with Dima. His background is sad and emotional, and will leave you in love with this man.

And Dima, oh wow, Dima. He's strong, yet fragile. He's an inspirational man with a tragic backstory. It's developed wonderfully throughout and left me an emotional wreck at times. He's blind, left feeling alone and broken. He fears letting anyone get close, knowing they'll eventually leave, as everyone leaves him. Basically, he's afraid to risk his heart.

The writing style is excellent, with a great flow, extremely well developed characters, and a riveting storyline. Their story involves fears and insecurities, risks and taking chances. The relationship is passionate and playful, full of emotions and angst.

This is my first time reading Kitty play, and I absolutely adore it. It's tender, sweet, hot and steamy. Their dynamics are fantastic. The meows, the scratching, omg, I love every second of it.

Black
is a wonderful, compelling story with some great kitty play. It's beautiful and tender, as sexual companionship turns into so much more. It's so much more than I expected. Known for their superb erotic stories, this one is so much more. This emotional tale left me gutted at times, and gripped the whole time. All in all, it's a beautiful story!

Excerpt

A shove and he fell into a seated position. His hands were all over me. Squeezing at my thighs, shoving my shirt up. Stepping back, away from him, I grabbed the bottom of my shirt and pulled it over my head. I draped it over the coffee table and worked on my pants next. Kitties didn’t wear clothes after all. If I was going to be a kitty, I was going to be a good one.

Naked, body free in the cool air of my apartment, I lifted my arms above my head and stretched out. Flaunting. I wanted him to touch my cock. Heated, it swayed with each of my movements, begging for attention. That was for later though. Now we played.

Dropping to my knees, I turned my face towards him and angled my head to the side. Hands hit the floor, and I crawled towards him. Strutted as best as I could. It was like the evening before when I’d tried to seduce him. Except I’d already succeeded in my goal this time. Now it was all icing on top.

I crawled up to him, hands going to his knees. “Dima,” he murmured, reaching for my hair. He laced his fingers through, but I jerked my head away from him.

With a hiss, I narrowed my eyes and bit down on his fingers. It made him laugh, but he didn’t touch me again. If he wanted me to get into character, we were going to have to do it properly. I wanted to be something different, and he was going to have to deal with that.

Tony spread his thighs to accept me between them. I scratched and then dipped my head. With the skill of my tongue and teeth, working in tandem, I popped open the button of his jeans. The zipper was much easier, and then he helped me. While he worked on getting his pants out of the way, I showed off my body. Elbows rested on the floor behind me, back arched sharply as I waited. The skin stretched tight over my ribs, stomach a little dip. I was tiny, and I knew it, but Tony definitely seemed to like it.

“God, you’re beautiful,” he murmured.

I purred at the compliment, and when the couch stopped its faint squeaking from his movements, I was at my place between his thighs again. He’d not moved from his spot, making it easier on me. Without much ado, I dove face first into his lower stomach, brushing my nose into his tuft of pubic hair. He smelled faintly of soap and musk, sweat. A distinctly manly smell that drove me crazy. His cock flexed, the heat of it against my cheek. Too heavy to stand on its own when he was seated like that, it pointed towards his hip.

I nipped at his stomach and turned my head so my cheek rested against him. Keeping my eyes closed, I flicked my tongue against the side of his cock. He groaned and shifted, legs spreading wider.

Poor Tony.

He thought he was going to get what he wanted. One thing he would learn was kitties didn’t much care to do what other people wanted.

This time when I scratched at his thighs, I was attacking bare skin. He jerked against me, hissing between his teeth.

“Fuck,” he grumbled.

He might have caught the smirk that danced over my lips, but if he did, it was only a brief moment as I bypassed his cock and went straight to his balls. My tongue lapped across the tender flesh, tasting salt and heat. I swore I felt his heart beating as my nose brushed the base of his cock and my tongue worked him over. Curious, I mouthed at his sack before letting out a tiny “meow.” He arched so hard and quickly, I thought he was gonna jump off the couch.

If he liked that, Tony was in for a long night.

I waited for Tony, curled up on the couch with my cat ears perched in my hair. It had been nearly an hour, and I was starting to get impatient. Every time my hard-on started to die down, a new thought of all the filthy stuff we could get into made it shoot back up. I felt lightheaded from the lack of blood in my brain.

The doorbell rang, and I shot off the couch, buzzing him in.

Moving onto my hands and knees, I crawled to the door and plucked it open, listening for Tony’s footsteps. I recognized the way he moved, and this was surely him. The sound of his heavy yet careful feet against the wood made my heart skip. I sat up with my knees together, palms resting on the floor in front of them. The eager kitty waiting for its Master to come home. If I had a tail, I would have been flicking it.

A sturdy knock faintly vibrated the door in the frame.

“Dima?” Tony called. He pushed the door more as he stepped in.

He made it over the threshold, and then he stopped, sucking in a loud breath. I couldn’t read his facial expression, but I imagined he was gaping. I doubted he expected me to answer the door naked, hard, and with my ears on.

“Dima?” he murmured. “Jesus….”

Meow.” An eager greeting for Tony. I moved towards him, head butting against his legs before I twined myself around them. Once, twice, I circled around his legs. Ending in front of him, I reached out and dug my nails into his thighs. My back curled into a sharp arch as I looked up towards him, cocking my head to the side. I purred quietly.

Tony’s hand fanned through my hair, stroking it. “You’re too much,” he murmured.

Damn right I was.

I wasn’t going to make it easy for him to resist.

My hands brushed up, trailing over his cock. He moaned low, and my lips twitched towards a smirk. I nuzzled into his crotch, meowing again. He swelled under my touch while I scratched my nails down his thighs again. His fingers tried to tighten in my hair, but I turned away from him quickly.

Back facing him, I dropped my hands down and crawled towards the couch, letting him see the plug that peered from between my cheeks. Yeah, he wasn’t going to win this one.

Pax Polo is the swashbuckling guitarist for Serenity Free.

Correction: Was the swashbuckling guitarist for Serenity Free.

Now he sports a black eye and his bros have kicked him out of their band—three weeks before Christmas. It’s an unfamiliar kick to his over-inflated ego, but . . . whatever.

No problem.

Thanks to some stellar eavesdropping, an unexpected angel ornament, and a bribe to open for his favorite band ever, Pax will weasel his way back into his mates’ good graces.

All he has to do is friend Clifford, the neighborhood man-shrew, for the summer. Distract him a bit so Clifford’s younger sister can sneak around.

It sounds like a piece of beginners Beethoven. Jolly good fun.

Easy.

Because, Pax totally knows how to friend people. He has heaps of friends. This shrew’s no match for his shrewd ways. Or is he?

My Rating - 4 Stars!

Anyta Sunday's Shrewd Angel is a great, feel-good Christmas romance.

When Pax is cut from his band, he uses a chance to charm his neighbor as a way to get back in his band. It's a fun, little comedy of errors, as Pax is trying to worm his way into distracting the shrew.

Cliff is hysterical in his ability to put Pax in his place. Their wit and banter is phenomenal. Cliff's indifference to Pax's celebrity is amusing and entertaining, drawing me completely into this tale.

This slow burn romance is a whole lot of fun, as well as charming with it's dialogue and banter.

I fell in love with Shrewd Christmas. Anyta Sunday perfectly combines awesome banter and some great tender moments with an excellent plot and pace.

The Christmas Angel Series

In 1750, a master woodcarver poured all his unrequited love, passion, and longing into his masterpiece—a gorgeous Christmas angel for his beloved’s tree. When the man he loved tossed the angel away without a second thought, a miracle happened. The angel was found by another who brought the woodcarver True Love.

Since then, the angel has been passed down, sold, lost and found, but its magic remains. Read the romances inspired by (and perhaps nudged along by) the Christmas angel through the years. Whether it’s 1700s England (Eli Easton's Christmas Angel), the 1880’s New York (Kim Fielding’s Summerfield’s Angel), the turn-of-the-century (Jordan L. Hawk’s Magician’s Angel), World War II (L.A. Witt’s Christmas Homecoming), Vietnam-era (N.R. Walker’s Soldier’s Wish), the 1990’s (Anyta Sunday’s Shrewd Angel), or 2018 (RJ Scott’s Christmas Prince), the Christmas angel has a way of landing on the trees of lonely men who need its blessing for a very Merry Christmas and forever HEA.

My Rating - 5 Stars!

Brigham Vaughn's Seeking Warmth is one of the best books I have ever read. Not for it's genius or complex tale, but for it's beauty and tenderness.

Benny, fresh out of juvi, is homeless and jobless. He's struggling to get his life back on track, not only for himself, but so he can find his younger sister and become her guardian.

Benny's situation is explored in a manner than is riveting, superbly written, and extremely atmospheric. You will feel as if you are experiencing all Benny is suffering through.

Benny struggles on his own, refusing to accept help from his ex, Scott, as he feels he has nothing to offer him. But, as hard as Benny's working, he has to learn to accept some help, and that there is nothing wrong with that.

Seeking Warmth is a touching and absolutely heart-warming story of love and hope. I am in awe of the impressiveness and power of this Brigham Vaughn tale.

Excerpt:

People hurried past Benny Fuller without seeing him. They were bundled up warmly against the
snow, clutching their holiday shopping bags and packages. They were too intent on their destination
to see the kid they pushed past. Now that the sun was going down, the crowds were beginning to
thin. The wind picked up and the fat, fluffy snowflakes grew smaller and sharper. They stung his
cheeks and made his hands ache. It had been early spring when he went into juvie. He’d had a hat
stuffed in his old, beat up Army-style jacket but no gloves.
When the caseworker picked him up at the juvenile detention center and drove him to a foster
home, she frowned at his bare hands. She said something about making sure he had a pair of
gloves—and a warmer coat and boots—but she got a phone call a few minutes later and apparently
forgot. He hadn’t said anything to the foster care lady about it either. So now the slushy snow soaked
into his shoes as he walked and he still had no gloves or winter coat. He’d have to make do. But that
was nothing new for him, was it? Benny had been doing that for a while now.
He kicked at a piece of torn, soggy cardboard on the sidewalk as he passed it. It did nothing to
relieve the gnawing hunger in his stomach or the cold air that crept down the collar of his jacket and
numbed his fingers.
It was satisfying though. Something to do to let out all of the frustration and fear boiling inside of
him. His job search had amounted to nothing. Everything amounted to nothing. There were no
opportunities for kids like him.

He’d been wandering the city for a week. Ever since he left the foster home they placed him in. It
hadn’t seemed bad at first. It was clean and there were only two other kids there, both younger. But
one of them was a nightmare. Benny had never seen anything like it. The boy screamed and tried to
hit the little girl all the time. The foster mother did nothing to stop it. The little girl had bruises on
her arms and legs from the boy and it made Benny sick to watch it happen. Within the first day
Benny was there, the boy bit Benny hard enough to draw blood, but Benny was the one who got
yelled at by the foster mother for provoking him. Benny hadn’t done anything but sit down next to
the kid.
Benny had tried to help out, thinking maybe the woman was just overwhelmed, but she yelled at him
for interfering. The day after he got there, the little girl had to go to the doctor for pinkeye. Benny
was left home with the boy. It was a nightmare. After the boy screamed and hit him and acted like a
little monster all day, Benny couldn’t handle it anymore. As soon as the woman got home with the
girl, Benny crawled out the bedroom window and left.
He went straight to his childhood home, even though there was no one there waiting for him. He
collected his car and a few belongings, but he knew he couldn’t stay or Child Protective Services
would just drag him out of there and back to a foster home.
But once he left his old house, he had nowhere else to go. He had a car though, thankfully. It had
sat, unused, while he was in juvie. It was still registered, thankfully, although the insurance on it had
lapsed. He’d have to hope he didn’t get pulled over, or he’d be in big trouble.
With no home and no job, what else could he do now but wander? Sit in his car and feel sorry for
himself? Even if he wanted to, he didn’t have any money for gas so he couldn’t do it for long. He
tried to run the engine as little as possible. Just enough to keep himself from freezing to death. At
least when he was up and walking, his blood was flowing.
He wasn’t warm, but at least he wasn’t dead. That was something, right?
Up ahead, a brightly-lit storefront spilled yellow light onto the snowy sidewalk. Its warmth beckoned
Benny to come closer, but as he approached, he recognized the building and scowled. Sullivan’s Fine
Gifts, the sign on the window read. Damn it. His wandering had taken him to the last place he should
be.
Stupid. Why did I come here? He wondered. It wasn’t like he could go in and see Scott Sullivan. God, he
wanted to though. Scott was the only person Benny had ever trusted. The only one who really knew
him. Scott was the best thing that had ever happened to Benny. Too bad Benny was the worst thing
that had ever happened to Scott.
Benny stood in front of the gift shop long enough for the snowflakes to settle on his too-thin jacket.
His breath fogged the window and cold and hunger faded away as he stared into the store owned by

his ex-boyfriend’s parents, mesmerized by the cheerful lights and decorations. It advertised home
and family.
Warmth. Security. Love.
All the things Benny didn’t have.
