Let Me Love You (Love Permit #1) by Gianni Holmes

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

What happens when a guy who constantly needs rescuing meets his Prince-not-so-Charming?

After bailing on his corporate kingdom due to a very public scandal, the last thing Tate expects is to bump into temptation in the woods. A five feet four, one-hundred-and-twenty-pound guy who reeks of a damsel in distress. In other words, Tate’s kryptonite.

When a sprained ankle leaves him trapped in the woods, Bryan has no option but to accept help from the only man within miles around. But there’s just so much to do in a cabin before boredom kicks in. With only one bed, one brooding inexperienced hunk, and a few days for his injury to heal, it's only a matter of time before things heat up.

Just when Tate starts opening up to Bryan, an unexpected turn of events throws Bryan in the face of danger. To rescue him this time, Tate must leave his fortress in the woods to return to society. Will their brief encounter be enough for them to survive what lurks in the city?

Full of playful banter, lingerie, heels, a slight age gap, devious friends, stubborn exes, mystery, and intrigue, this book will give you a thrilling and swoony experience.

Please note, this approximately 100k word book was previously published as Falling for Mr. Corporate and My Dear Mr. Corporate. Over 20k words have been added to the story for a dual POV of the section which was formerly Falling for Mr. Corporate. Also newly edited.

My Rating - 4.5 Stars!

Let Me Love You is the first book in the Love Permit series. Gianni Holmes has revamped the previously released Falling For Mr Corporate and My Dear Mr Corporate and added more to the fun. And what a story it all is!

There are essentially three parts to Bryan and Tate's relationship.

First, they meet in the mountains, after Bryan has had enough of his abusive boyfriend/boss. Ugh. That man is such an ass. With Bryan alone and needing help, Tate meets him and ends up helping him out.

What follows is an instant attraction, as the two men quickly fall into bed. And damn, they are hot together.

Tate's a recluse, with his past slowly revealed. The way Bryan helps heal him and bring him back to life is wonderful.

I love this quote. "Sex is easy...Relationships are different, and I'm not sure I'm any good at it."

Second, once Bryan is ready to return to the city, they have to try to make things work, juggling all the insecurities and doubts involved. Bryan doesn't want to be a kept boy and is desperately trying to make himself self sufficient, while also trying to be with Tate.

As for the heat, there's lots of it, including some sexy lingerie and some hot rimming.

Third, there's action and danger, with plenty of twists and turns. There's abuse, assumptions, and plenty of manipulation.

Both men have a lot of healing to do. Tate's getting over the death of his wife and daughter, but there's a lot involved with that situation and it isn't easy for Tate to deal with.

And then there's Bryan, who's struggling to deal with the abuse he suffered from his ex, the long term effects of his upbringing, and his need to be dependent.

All the while they're still dealing with Bryan's ex and plenty of issues with Tate's family business.

I love the author's writing style and her well developed characters. It's easy to fall in love with these men and root for them through all they have to deal with. My only complaint, if I had one, would be the completely different feels for the different parts of this book. It's a little strange, but I didn't let it bother me.

Let Me Love You is a wonderful mix of hurt/comfort, healing, and suspense. Gianni Holmes will definitely leave you turning the pages throughout.

The Ghosts of Crushes Past by Isla Olsen

Amazon Link   - Available in KU

Evan

All I want for Christmas is my best friend, Tyler. And so, it seems, does everyone else...

I have an awesome, not at all cheesy mistletoe-related plan to make my Christmas wish come true, but before I can put it into action I’m thwarted by the arrival of not one, not two, but three of Ty’s drop-dead gorgeous former crushes. It seems they’ve all conspired to spend their holiday break at my family’s Aspen resort...and they’ve all got eyes for Tyler—I’m sure of it.

Now I need to come up with a new plan. A plan that involves showing Tyler that I’m the guy for him, that what we have could be so much more than friendship...

And if I happen to break a limb or burn my house down in the process? Well, as they say...love hurts.

Disclaimer: this book does not contain any actual ghosts

My Rating - 3.5 Stars!

The Ghosts of Crushes Past is a sweet friends to lovers romance by Isla Olsen.

My favorite part of this story is Tyler's developing feelings. I adore that he had no clue he was in love with Evan. His discovery of his feelings is fun and entertaining. Oh, and hot too!

As for Evan, it's sweet seeing him get his wish. He has plans for making his move on Tyler, but he also has his doubts. He spends a lot of time assuming everyone else wants Tyler and that Tyler will want them. Until...

I always love the author's writing style, but I definitely struggled with the beginning. It took me a bit to get fully invested in the story. But, once I did...

Overall, it's cute and funny. There's not much going on since it's a short tale. But there's just enough to keep things moving. And, as much as I read a lot of tales with one night stands, and men quickly falling into bed, I didn't like the way the two instantly jumped into bed. I needed more talk first.

The Ghosts of Crushes Past is a good little friends to lovers romance. Isla Olsen will leave you smiling with these friends admitting their feelings to each other.

"Holding onto the past can hurt more than letting it go."

People say six years is long enough to mourn the death of his husband but for Ross Miller, the pain is as fresh as if it happened yesterday. He’s left his glittering Hollywood life behind, yet guilt still dogs his steps, no matter how far he runs. Trapped by his past and needing to escape his well-meaning friends, he rents a cabin in the secluded Adirondack mountains. A reclusive man moves in next door and piques Ross’s interest, but his persistent attempts at friendship are rebuffed. That doesn’t stop him because the one rule Ross Miller has always lived by is to never take no for an answer.

Novelist Arden Wainwright has given up. He can’t pretend a happiness he knows he’ll never find again. Solitary days turn into years, and he remains frozen, unable to take a breath. At his wit’s end, he retreats to the mountains, but it does little to stir his creativity. He continues to hide from life and avoids his overly nosy neighbor, who insists on planting himself at Arden’s doorstep at every turn. Making friends is the last thing Arden wants, but annoying or not, he can’t get the damn man out of his mind.

Finding peace in their isolated surroundings, the two lonely men forge an unlikely friendship where they realize they’re more alike than different and better together than apart. With Ross’s help, Arden begins to rebuild the shattered pieces of his life, while Arden gives Ross the strength to face his fears and find his way home. When love comes calling you can choose to hide from hurt, loss, and pain, but if you take a chance and open the door, you might discover that running from your heart is the last thing you'll want to do.

This book can be read as a stand alone but you may remember Ross, Foster's best friend from Broken Silence, Book One of the Rock Bottom series.

REVIEW
My Rating - 5 Stars!

Running From My Heart is the perfect reminder for why I love Felice Stevens' writing. I haven't read one of her books for a while now, but this one has inspired me to check out the ones I've missed, especially the first two books in this series.

Wow. This story is a beautiful and powerful tale of survivor's guilt and drowning in one's grief. It's an amazing story of survival.

Ross and Arden are two men who are both staggering in life, each having experienced life changing losses. They are two successful men who have each taken a step back from their careers, and are hiding from the world. They meet when they become neighbors at a lake in the mountains. And, yes, the setting is a huge aspect of this story; both in it's power to relax and it's ability to allow one to take a step back from the craziness of life.

Ross
and Arden are two heartbroken men, both drowning in their grief. Seriously, the grief and guilt is all consuming. The reader is easily able to feel it jumping off the page. The author expertly illustrates that people grieve differently, and that this is okay. I applaud the way this is developed.

This story is about finding a purpose after one's life path is derailed. It's about figuring out how to live again, how to move on from the pain. Their story involves family issues on the way to finding the second love of their lives.

It's also a story about fear, and trying to overcome it. There's a great quote about this, something we all can relate to.

"It's hard to take that first step."

This is the story of two men who are running from their pain, their life in general, and their own hearts. The importance of the title is well illustrated. And the following quote is an important piece of advice given.

"...maybe there's someone who can live inside the other piece of your broken heart."

The author also does a great job exploring the difficulty with putting oneself out there into social situations. I appreciated this part, as it's written with understanding and care. This is such a common issue and it's wonderfully illustrated.

Running From My Heart is a painful journey towards healing. This Felice Stevens read is touching, emotional, and inspirational. Definitely check it out when you're in the mood for two men moving forward with their lives. You will not be disappointed.

I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending around the corner, My characters have to work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy and that includes love, but getting there is oh so fun and oh so sexy.

I live in New York City with my husband and two children. My day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass (or two of red wine). I practice law but daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there are bound to be a few bumps along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

REVIEW
My review - 4 Stars!

A romance that takes place in the Adirondacks? Hell yes, sign me up! Falling Into Love is a fun, adventurous romance by Kris T Bethke and Neil Iris.

Liam, a hiking guide, and Austin, a radiology tech, meet during a hike. The attraction is immediate, and unexpected, as neither man was looking for love.

What follows is the emotional issues that Austin has about Liam. Austin wasn't looking for love and isn't sure he wants it. Thus, he experiences all sorts of self doubt, questioning everything.

As much as I enjoy Liam and Austin, I love the whole group of Liam's friends just as much. They have formed a brotherhood and are completely there for one another. Love it! Of course, since they are all so close, they worry about each other, which causes some issues for Liam.

Their feelings are strong, and get even stronger quickly, leaving Austin having to figure things out. His journey is well-handled, thoughtful and believable.

And, I have to add that I love Liam's accident prone nature. It adds to the story a lot and is a fun change.

Be sure to check out Falling Into Love when you're in the mood for a quick love kind of book. Not insta-love, but fast.

Excerpt

As Austin relaxed, he smiled more, and his body lost that tight posture. He leaned against me a little as the evening wore on, and when he started to shiver, I put my arm around him. The soft sigh he gave was one of the sweetest sounds I’d ever heard. I wanted to push him down onto the ground and devour him, taste and touch every inch of his delectable skin. But it was much too soon for that, and I definitely didn’t want to do it with an audience.

Eventually, he pulled out his phone, woke it up, and sighed. He turned into me so his entire side was pressed against my chest and tilted his head back, so he could look into my eyes.

“I have to go. I’ve got an early-ish shift tomorrow.”

Acute disappointment flooded my veins. But I nodded.

“Let me walk you to your car,” I murmured.

He nodded and stood. It took a little bit to say goodbye. I appreciated the enthusiasm Everett gushed over him, and I was pleased to see Drew give him a warm handshake. Finally, we moved out of the ring of firelight and ambled toward his car. Neither one of us seemed in a hurry for things to end.

“So, uh.” Austin cleared his throat, and then whispered so softly it was barely audible. “Poop.”

I laughed quietly, and reached out, tilting his face up. “Thanks for coming. I really wanted to see you.”

Austin sucked in a breath and held it, then let it out in a rush of words, “Was this a date?”

It took me a second to understand, because he’d spoken so fast I almost couldn’t make out what he said. But when I did, my grin was so wide my face hurt.

“Well, I certainly thought it was. I definitely wanted it to be. What’s your verdict?”

He gave a shaky laugh. “Me, too.”

“Good.” I cautiously took a step closer, wanting to be in his space, and he let me. He even lifted a hand and placed it on my waist. I cursed the layers between us. I wanted to feel his touch on my skin.

“Do you maybe want to do it again? Uh, go on a date, I mean?”

“No maybe about it. I definitely want to do it again.”

Austin nodded, opened his mouth, and then shut it again. He shook his head, mouthed a word I couldn’t make out in the dimness, and then said, “Can I cook for you?”

“I would love that,” I said fervently.

“Oh. Good.” Austin’s smile bloomed on his face, and for a long minute, I was captivated by his full, kissable mouth. I almost didn’t hear what he said next. “I have Tuesday off. Want to come over?”

“Just tell me what time.”

Austin laughed, and I swore it sounded like music. “I’ll text you as soon as I figure out what to make. You don’t have any allergies, do you?”

“Not to food.”

“Good. Then. Tuesday?”

“Absolutely.”

Austin sucked in another breath, kissed my cheek again with one of those fleeting, butterfly kisses, and then scrambled to get in his car. I couldn’t keep the grin off my face as I waved him on and stood there until his car disappeared around the bend in the drive.

Nell Iris is a romantic at heart who believes everyone deserves a happy ending. She’s a bona fide bookworm (learned to read long before she started school), wouldn’t dream of going anywhere without something to read (not even the ladies’ room), loves music (and singing along but, let’s face it, she’s no Celine Dion), and is a real Star Trek nerd (“Make it so”). She loves words, poetry, wine, and Sudoku, and absolutely adores elephants!

Nell believes passionately in equality for all regardless of race, gender, or sexuality, and wants to make the world a better, less hateful, place.

Nell is a forty-something bisexual Swedish woman, married to the love of her life, and a proud mama of a grown daughter. She left the Scandinavian cold and darkness for warmer and sunnier Malaysia a few years ago, and now spends her days writing, surfing the Internet, enjoying the heat, and eating good food. One day she decided to chase her lifelong dream of being a writer, sat down in front of her laptop, and wrote a story about two men falling in love.

Nell Iris writes gay romance, prefers sweet over angst, and wants to write diverse and different characters.

REVIEW
My Rating - 4 Stars!

Summit is a fun romance by Louise Lyons, a new to me author.

Ash decides to climb Kilimanjaro, but first he's going to need to get back in shape and make some life changes. Overall, since his divorce, he has made a lot of changes.

Upon meeting Sean at a training camp, he finds his very attractive and is interested in the man. When he's home after their training, he's unable to allow himself to stay in touch with Sean. Crazy thing is though, he just can't get the man out of his head.

Their hookups are super hot, as the chemistry between them is sizzling. It's the farthest Ash has ever gone with a man, making for some fun scenes.  As feelings get stronger, they will have decisions to make. Can Ash come out? Do they want to be together after the climb? And if so, how since they don't live near each other.

This story is a ton of fun and interesting, as well as atmospheric. I found the training, as well as the actually climb fascinating, as I certainly have no experience with such a climb.

I am happy to have found Summit and am happy with Louisa Lyons's writing style, as it is entertaining, charming, and sweet. I'll have to check out her other books.

Excerpt

We applied extra sun cream and insect repellent, put on wide-brimmed hats, shouldered our backpacks, and prepared our hiking poles. This was it. The first leg of the very long trek to the top of the mountain. My heart thrummed with excitement and a glance at Sean's beaming smile and bright eyes told me he felt as I did.

The lead Tanzanian guide set off slowly along a dusty path through the jungle and we followed in single file, with more guides and Phil and Mark mingling with us. Cameras and phones made repeated appearances during the four-hour trek to the camp, as we marvelled at the huge trees, mosses, and plants, and the monkeys and birds high up in the branches over our heads. Phil reminded us several times to drink regularly and I got into the habit of sucking water from the tube connected to the water bladder in my backpack every few minutes.

There were a couple of short breaks along the trail, during which we ate snacks, drank additional water, and peed again and again. Ladies' and men's "toilets" were clumps of bushes on opposite sides of the trail, which resulted in much giggling and squealing from the ladies as they came upon unsavoury deposits from the previous trekkers.

The path wound its way upwards, not too steeply, through humid shade provided by the tangle of trees. Their roots burst through the dirt underfoot and we constantly alternated between staring at the ground to avoid tripping and gazing around in wonder at the surroundings. The afternoon raced by and I barely realised three hours had passed, when the trail opened out into a vast clearing.

A cluster of green tents awaited us, with two tall narrow toilet tents off to one side and a large orange mess tent for our meals.

"Your bags will be in your tents waiting for you," Phil reminded us.

"How do we find which is ours?" Sally asked.

"They'll have tags on that match the tags we put on our bags last night," Sean told her. "Ours is twin something."

"They're all twin something, except Gerald's because he's on his own." I laughed. "Ours is four."

"Oh, yeah." Sean rolled his eyes and went looking for a tent with a plastic tag on it that read "twin four." A moment later he unzipped the flap of a tent and disappeared inside. I followed, slipping my backpack from my shoulders as I reached it.

Sean sat in the entrance, unlacing his boots. Our two holdalls sat in the middle of the tent and a sleeping mat lay on each side. Sean placed his boots in one corner and shuffled backwards out of the way. "Which side do you want?"

"I don't mind." I took his place and removed my boots. Sean moved to the far side of the tent and placed his backpack in the middle between the two holdalls. We took a few minutes to organise things, unpacking our additional sleeping mats to put on top of the thin ones provided, spread sleeping bags on top of them, and found comfortable running shoes to wear for dinner. We changed out of our hiking trousers into warm jogging bottoms and pulled on fleeces over our base layers. Phil had warned that the temperature would plummet as soon as the sun set, and the sun dropped like a stone at exactly twenty past six.

"I knew I'd get you in a tent one day." Sean grinned.

"Better than Wales. At least it's dry."

"For now. We might get rain or snow higher up. And it'll be freezing."

I lowered my voice to a whisper. "We can shift these bags over to one side and keep each other warm."

About the Author

Louise Lyons comes from a family of writers. Her mother has a number of poems published in poetry anthologies, her aunt wrote poems for the church, and her grandmother sparked her inspiration with tales of fantasy.

Louise first ventured into writing short stories at the grand old age of eight, mostly about little girls and ponies. She branched into romance in her teens, and MM romance a few years later, but none of her work saw the light of day until she discovered FanFiction in her late twenties. Posting stories based on some of her favourite movies, provoked a surprisingly positive response from readers. This gave Louise the confidence to submit some of her work to publishers, and made her take her writing "hobby" more seriously.

Louise lives in the UK, about an hour north of London, with a mad dog called Casper, and a collection of tropical fish and tarantulas. She works in the insurance industry by day, and spends every spare minute writing. She loves to run long-distance and some of her best writing inspiration comes to her when her feet are pounding the open road. She often races home afterward, and grabs pen and paper to make notes.

Louise has always been a bit of a tomboy, and one of her other great loves is cars and motorcycles. Her car and bike are her pride and job, and she loves to exhibit the car at shows, and take off for long days out on the bike, with no one for company but herself.
