Blurb

Leo Byrne is a cop, Jason Banks is an ex-con. Even after one stolen kiss, something has to give before Leo can convince Jason that falling in love is even an option.

Adopted at a young age, Leo is part of the sprawling Byrnes family. With his dog Cap, three siblings and a whole mess of nieces and nephews, he is never lonely, and his life is full. Love is the last item on his to-do list, but seeing his best friends Sean and Eric happy and making new families makes him want things he doesn’t think is possible. Kissing Jason at an event to honor his bravery was one thing, but anything other than that is off limits. Until Jason has no one left to turn to, and it’s Leo who helps him at his lowest. Taking Jason and his daughter into his home is one thing, but falling for the ex-con is something else altogether.

Jason made a deal to keep his daughter safe and spent years behind bars as a result. Volunteering as a convict firefighter was as much about helping the community as saving his sanity, but now that he’s out, he doesn’t even have that. He’s lost his future, his self-respect, and has no friends or a place to call home. Worst of all, even after rescuing his daughter he still can’t keep her safe from the man who wants to use her as a bargaining chip for money. Meeting Leo might give Jason a way to keep Daisy safe, but falling for the stubborn cop means the truth has to be revealed, and he could lose everything all over again.

Promise, the third book in RJ Scott's Single Dads series, is a heart-wrenching tale of doing everything possible to protect one's child.

Leo's a cop who's always longed to have a family of his own. A kiss with the handsome Jason soon changes everything for him, leading him to the family of which he wants to be a part.

This is an amazing romance between a cop and an ex-con; two men who have no business being together. Their story involves dealing with danger, greed, and more.

Jason will do everything he can do protect his daughter. Not being able to trust people, he
struggles to let Leo into their lives. The connection and attraction is there, but trust is the big issue for Jason. This part is so well written.

Little Daisy is adorable and her background is tragic. If you like kids, you will absolutely fall in love with Daisy.

The writing is superb, with fantastic complex main characters, a great storyline, and a whole lot of heart. As an avid fan of RJ Scott, I am not surprised about falling in love with Promise. It's a tender tale, full of heart, romance, and love. And the ending is amazing!!!

GRL 2018 SPOTLIGHT - Jaime Reese - A Chosen Man (The Men of Halfway House #6)

In my attempt to cover some of the attending authors for this year's GRL,
I am reviewing

Jaime Reese's A Chosen Man
(The Men of Halfway House #6)

BLURB

For Wall McCormack, actions speak louder than words. He’s giving and protective, loyal to his friends, and devoted to his job. While confident and powerful enough to conquer any challenge, his greatest strength lies in his calm nature. Until an unexpected assignment sends his world into a loud and colorful chaos he never could have anticipated.

Rejection. It’s something Dylan Vaughn has known his entire life. But he’s a tough nut to crack and refuses to break. Armed with a sharp tongue and brutal honesty, he pushes through life and at anyone who attempts to take him on. Except for the quiet guardian who piques his interest and dares him to want…more.

When Dylan’s past comes back with a vengeance and jeopardizes their growing connection, Wall will stop at nothing to protect the younger man and remain by his side. But convincing Dylan that someone accepts the real man behind the cocky facade might prove to be Wall’s greatest challenge yet.

With his freedom on the line, Dylan must trust the strength of their bond and confront the forces threatening their future. Only then will he realize the dream of acceptance is real and finally have a place to call home.

REVIEW
My Rating - 5 Stars!

I was so excited to read A Chosen Man, and Jaime Reese certainly did not disappoint. Jaime's Men of Halfway House series is absolutely beautiful and impressive. I fell in love with the first book in the series, and each book there after.

It's a romance between two men, who are both familiar with betrayal and pain. Both men are broken and assume they are unworthy of love. Dylan has been abandoned his whole life, is a numbers person, socially awkward and finds people confusing. And Wall, I just adore Wall. He is well developed, and we completely understand his need for honesty and to not be a secret ever again. The attraction is strong from the start, but they certainly hold back on acting on their feelings.

Together, they can help each other to heal, find love and accept that love. They help balance each other out, and they certainly each needed each other.

Their story contains action, suspense and danger, as well as acceptance, healing and love.

And, aside from this couple, we get to revisit the Halfway House guys, and I find myself melting at the way Dylan helps Oz. So wonderful and powerful!

If for some reason A Chosen Man is not on your to-be-read list, add it now! It is an exceptional emotional journey, as Jaime Reese once again manages to write such complicated and intoxicating characters. The writing is strong and powerful, flowing so beautifully at times that it's almost lyrical. My only hope if that she keeps adding to this series!

Jaime Reese

Jaime Reese is the alter ego of an artist who loves the creative process of writing, just not about herself. Fiction is far more interesting. She has a weakness for broken, misunderstood heroes and feels everyone deserves a chance at love and life. An avid fan of a happy ending, she believes those endings acquired with a little difficulty are more cherished.
